Calculate How Many Weight Watchers Points You Get A Day

Edit: Just so you know, this page uses calculations from an old Weight Watcher program. When I say old I mean super old, like three or four programs ago! If you have the old books, and slider, for the old program then you can still use this math to figure out your daily points but this will not calculate the points needed for the current program…

Original post below:

It involves some fairly simple math so have a piece of paper and a pen handy!

(1) Are you:

Female? = 2 Points

Male? = 8 Points

A Nursing Mom? = 12 Points

(2) How old are you?

17 – 26? = 4 Points

27 – 37? = 3 Points

38 – 47? = 2 Points

48 – 58? = 1 Point

Over 58? = 0 Points

(3) What do you weigh?

Enter the first 2 digits of your weight in pounds.

Example, if you weigh 183 pounds, use 18. If you weigh less then 100 pounds enter the first digit of your weight in pounds; example, if you weigh 98 pounds, enter 9.

(4) How tall are you?

Under 1.55 m (5’1″) = o Points

1.55m to 1.78m (5’1″ – 5’10”) = 1 Point

Over 1.78m (5’10”) = 2 Points

(5) On most days of the week, how do you spend most of your day?

Sitting down (ex. receptionist, bus driver, office worker) = 0 Points

Occasionally sitting, but mainly standing (ex. sales person, housewife, cook, teacher) = 2 Points

Walking most of the time (ex. waiter, mailman) = 4 Points

Doing physically hard word most of the time (ex. nurse, gardener, construction worker) = 6 Points

The total is your Daily Points Target!

Quick note, if your total is less than 18 your daily points targer is 18. If your total is more than 44 your daily points target is 44.

Make sure to retake the quiz as your weight goes down, as you age or if your activity level changes!

Do you know how old this system is? My husband and I are doing WW and I have a book from 2004 that calls for a different scale. My husband weighs in the 300+ range and it gives him 33 points. This scale would give him 44. Right now he seems to be fine with what he’s eating (even coming in under) and losing weight…

    • shrinkingwmn September 21, 2010 at 9:22 pm #

Hi Megan, the book and slider I am using are from 2007. Who knew there could be such a drastic difference in points from 2004 to 2007! If the info your husband is using is working for him I say go with that; why mess with a system that works? Good luck to both of you! 🙂

Hi there! I’m doing the older program from early 2000s. I do flex. I seem to have a lot of choices with foods on this program. I guess I’m afraid of change. Why change if it works? I use the old slider as well for points. Fiber, calories and fat. I’ve lost 83 lbs but sadly, depression took over my life and gained in all back plus an additional 20lbs. I had kept it off for 5 years and that didn’t include doing maintenance points. I don’t go to meetings anymore. I used to but stopped. I feel let down after I was offered to host a weekly class but gaining my weight back obviously I cannot be a good role model.. as I was told. It doesn’t mean I am not a good person. Peoples lives change and they acted as if I was an alien. Very disappointing!!!! In myself and the whole WW team for basically letting me down. So, I’m at it again. Best of luck everyone!

      I weight 197 and I am allowed to eat 30 points a day.my book is 2017

I weigh 165 and I’m 5’9” tall and I’m 57 yr old female… this old method only gives me 17 pets a day!!! That’s crazy!
Can someone help me figure out what my point intake should be.. I found a free app that lets me search and calculate everything about any food… and it even shows what the we value is… but I don’t know what my target would be as far as points.

      • shrinkingwmn January 10, 2018 at 9:56 pm #

Hi, you must have done the calculations wrong (no offence!) because no way anyone would have been allocated only 17 daily points. Are you doing the new program, Freestyle? I could try to calculate your daily points for you if you’d like. The new system works differently than any of the previous systems so you can’t use the daily points from Freestyle and pair it with an old program. On the previous program I got 30 daily points, on Freestyle I get 23. Whichever program you calculate your dailies for you have to follow. Lemme know which program you are using and I’ll see if I can help!

So if someone weighs 300 what points would they get

      • Sherri L Etscheidt September 23, 2020 at 5:29 am #

I am currently a WW member and my weekly points are 23 and your calculations say I should be allowed 28. Which would correct if you are including the extra 35 weekly points I am allowed.

I need to lose 30 lbs. I have the old calculator. Is 26 pts a day to have right? I weigh 170lbs. I want to get to 140 lbs

I went on WW back in 99, lost over 130 ilbs, maintained it until 2012, had a tough time in my life, got off track, gained 30 ilbs, I’m like oh heck no, I went back on WW, strictly and faithfully, I joined the new one, didnt like it, I went back on the old WW, I did lose the 30 ilbs, here it is 2022, still maintaing my weight, last year for kicks n giggles, I went to WW and now everything is on line, say wut, nah, I’ll stick to the old WW, I enjoyed going to the weekly meetings, wonder if any of them still have them

      • Rt January 5, 2024 at 6:08 am #

        Yes 26 points

  2. barelydigested February 24, 2011 at 9:49 am #

There is also a completely new Points counting system, so this only works with the old program. Which is great if that is the reading material you have, but would leave you hungry if you were folling the PointsPlus system!

    • shrinkingwmn February 25, 2011 at 7:24 pm #

Yeah, I have heard about the new program. I don’t actually go to meetings because I can’t afford them so back before this new program was put in place my mom got extra copies of the books etc (she goes to the meetings) and I have been working the WW program on my own. 🙂 I decided that since I am perfectly happy with the program I am using and getting results there is no need to switch to the new system, I mean hey, it ain’t broke so why fix it? lol. Thanks for reading my blog! 🙂

      • Lorie January 19, 2015 at 8:28 am #

I actually first went on ww about 3 years ago. I was unemployed and couldn’t afford meetings and to use the new program. My friend went on the old system and lost over100 pounds in less than a year she had the old book and point slider she gave to me and I just used it at home with a good scale I lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks. My friends daughter is on the new system which counts crabs instead of fat like the old she wanted to lose 10 pounds and it took her a month using the new system diligently and it took her a month to lose 10 pounds but with the old system I lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks, the old system works for me so I just keep using it. However I am sure there are good things about the new system but even my friends daughter who is using the new system said it is a good system but takes much longer to lose weight on than the old system.

      • shrinkingwmn January 22, 2015 at 2:07 am #

Hi. I was the same way, when I first did weight watchers I couldn’t afford the meetings so I got a slider and book from my mom and did it on my own. It took a long time for me to lose the weight, my body doesn’t like to give up its fat stores lol, but it did come off slowly but surely. I never managed to lose 2lbs or more each week, usually I’d lose around 1lb a week or so, but I kept at it and it did work. I haven’t completely immersed myself in the new program yet, I have the calculator and the books I am just lacking the commitment to really buckle down and follow the rules, sigh. I couldn’t say with any certainty if weight loss is faster with the old program when compared to the new one, I know people who are following the new program and losing weight at the same speed as when they were on the old program, I think it has more to do with the individual and what their body wants. Mine for instance never wants to lose weight, doesn’t matter how hard core I am with following a program I will never lose more than a pound a week, it is how I am built, but other people can lose way more than I in a week, something I am quite jealous of lol I say use whatever works for you cause in the end that is all that matters! 🙂

I can’t afford to go to meetings either. I am about 50 pounds overweight at least. This says I get 27 points a day. Is it close enough if I count each 50 calories to be a point and all fresh fruit and raw veggies are free? See if u can help me get started. I gained about 20 pounds this winter and I’m starting walking about 2 mile a day. I will walk more when this gets easier. Thanks. Any tips will b appreciated.

    • shrinkingwmn June 23, 2014 at 9:15 pm #

      what is your activity level?
If you spend most of your day sitting you get 27 points a day. If you sit occasionally but mainly stand you get 29 points a day. If you are doing physically hard work you get 33 points a day.
Keep in mind this is using the old system, to calculate your daily points, using the new system you would need to look up that information because I know it is quite different from the version of Weight Watchers I did.
      Hope that helped! 🙂

Hi Tina, sorry but I don’t know how to calculate points for any of the new programs. The only one I have information for is the program discussed above, if you put your stats in to the formula it will tell you your points per day but as I said, that is an old program…very old now!

      • Beth July 16, 2016 at 12:18 pm #

When I started WW I was allowed 33 points. I weighed 260 lbs I have lost 17.5 lbs since March. I dont do alot of exercise but I do track alot. i try to walk at least 3 times a week

How many weight watcher flex points?

  10. Barb December 27, 2016 at 8:55 am #

Using your points scale mine averages 28 points a day… What I would like to know do you buy the frozen weight watchers here foods to eat that has the points on the box or do you eat normal foods? Also do fruits and raw vegetables have points as well?

    • shrinkingwmn January 8, 2017 at 12:23 am #

I tend to eat normal foods. I do have some of the WW snacks and desserts but a lot of them still have the old points values on the boxes so you have to recalculate the Smart Points values using the nutritional information found on the package. The majority of fruits and vegetables are zero points, which is great! Some exceptions are green peas, sweet potatoes, corn…basically starchy vegetables. I have yet to encounter a fruit that has a point value..unless it is from a can and has added sugar, then they are super high in points! Try to buy fresh or frozen fruit, they will be zero points. 🙂

  11. Valerie January 1, 2017 at 11:57 am #

Hi help please I weigh 280 n need to know how i calculate how many points i take in everyday please help

    • shrinkingwmn January 8, 2017 at 12:21 am #

Valerie, it depends on which program you are wanting to use, your age, activity level, etc. I would suggest doing a google search for an online WW calculator to find your daily points. Good Luck!

  12. Saida April 11, 2017 at 5:11 pm #

For 75 year old female and not active how many target points and how many points extra for the week allowance is need it.

    • shrinkingwmn May 25, 2017 at 2:36 am #

The points calculations use more information than that so I’m not sure how many points you would get. I would suggest searching for an online WW calculator that you can input all your info in to. You could also go to the WW website and put the info in there.

  13. Penny April 23, 2017 at 5:24 am #

Does any one know how to make or where to find the old weight watcher point finder ? The slider

    • shrinkingwmn May 25, 2017 at 2:37 am #

Awww, the slider, I have such fond memories of mine! You miiiiight be able to find one online but other than searching through Craigslist and other such sites I have no idea where you might find one. As for making one, that is an intriguing idea. If you could find pictures of one you might be able to duplicate it.

    • shrinkingwmn May 25, 2017 at 2:38 am #

If you sign-up for WW they can walk you through all the steps. They calculate for you how many points you get and as long as you follow the program you’ll lose the weight. 🙂

  15. Tracie Austin May 6, 2017 at 2:39 am #

How many points should i count for what i do all day. I am a Secretary in an ER some times we are busy sometimes we are slow. Also i workout 6 days a wek.

    • shrinkingwmn May 25, 2017 at 2:34 am #

That is a hard one. Do you wear any kind of activity tracker? You could track your steps for a week and average out what you get per day. Or if most days are lower activity level maybe calculate your points for that level but on days you are super busy adjust just for that day?

  16. E.Marie May 16, 2017 at 8:46 am #

Using this plan. New one drives me nuts.

    • shrinkingwmn May 25, 2017 at 2:32 am #

I’ve gotten used to the new plan but I know some people at my meetings still use the old plan. I figure whatever works for you is what you should use. 🙂

  17. Matthew Matteis August 1, 2017 at 10:28 am #

I started ww on 6-17-17 weighing 259, and was givin 47 pts. weighed myself Sunday and was 247lbs. Could you tell me what my points are now?

    • shrinkingwmn August 12, 2017 at 12:56 am #

Hi Matthew, I’m sorry but I’m not able to calculate your daily and weekly points without more information. If you are a WW member, do you use the app? If so it will automatically lower your daily and weekly points as you lose weight. If you don’t use the app they should let you know at your weekly meetings when your points values change. You could always ask your leader to recalculate your points to make sure you are using the correct number. If you aren’t a WW member I would suggest finding an online WW calculator, you can google for one, and putting in all your information, that will give you your current daily and weekly points allowance. Congrats on your weight loss, that’s awesome! Keep up the great work! 🙂

  18. Linda I Hodges August 6, 2017 at 6:17 am #

So, can you use the new WW cookbooks and such when calculating what points your eating when using the old system? Example a new weight watchers frozen dinner says 6 points, would that point value still be correct if your using the older version?

    • shrinkingwmn August 12, 2017 at 12:48 am #

Hi Linda, Unfortunately not. Each time WW changes their system they change how the points are calculated. A lot of the WW foods in Canada are still labelled with Points Plus values, which are lower than Smart Points values. The Smart Points are calculated using calories, fat, saturated fat, protein, sugar and carbs (if I remember correctly). Points Plus used different nutritional information to calculate the points. If you want to know the points for whichever system you are using you will need to have a points calculator for that system and input whichever nutritional information that system uses. A little extra work but still worth it, I think anyways lol. Thanks for commenting! 🙂

      • JUDY POTTER September 18, 2017 at 3:46 am #

hi there i am useing the old points system but i need to know how many points do i drop off once i have lost weight.

      • shrinkingwmn September 21, 2017 at 3:47 pm #

Every time you hit a 5 or 10 pound loss you need to recalculate your daily and weekly points. However you originally calculated your daily and weekly points (I’m not sure which of the older systems you are using, there are so many), just do that again to see if your daily and weekly points allowance has changed. From personal experience I noticed that the points allowance seems to change when the second digit in your weight changes, so when you go from the 190’s to the 180’s, at 190 you’ll get however many points and once you go down to 189 your points decrease. Hopefully that makes sense!

  19. Karen September 20, 2017 at 4:18 pm #

Thanks for the old way as I have many ww books & start up stuff from 2015 & can’t afford to buy more. Starting my new ” try ” the ” old ” way today !!

Does anyone have the formula yet that could show how to convert the calculator to the new FreeStyle program? I calculated it online to show daily points of 27 but then paid to get the monthly WW plan and it shows that I’m allowed 23 points/day (which seems to be the minimum?) plus the 35 weekly bank of extra points. My husband wants to do it too so I’m trying to figure out how to convert his 33 points to the new FreeStyle system… Ideas?

    • shrinkingwmn September 5, 2018 at 2:19 am #

I saw a chart somewhere that showed a person’s points on the old program and what they would be now on Freestyle, I’ll see if I can find it and get back to you. And yes, 23 is the lowest amount of daily points you will get on Freestyle.

Hi I wounder could you please help me I am 187 pounds how many points can I have

  29. Nadine September 30, 2018 at 10:38 am #

I just restarted yesterday and was allotted 23 points. I am a 51 year old woman,
5 ‘ 8″, weighed in at 197.4, and am a teacher. With these calculations I get 25. That works for me since it’s close enough AND I was given an extra 42 points to use throughout the week.

    • shrinkingwmn October 4, 2018 at 1:31 am #

23 sounds right for the new program. You can’t go lower than 23 daily points on the Freestyle program.

How many extra points a week when I dsily have 18 points

    • shrinkingwmn April 22, 2020 at 10:08 pm #

Hi, sorry but I don’t know. The points are calculated differently now. If you get the I Track Bites app it works similar to WW, so you might be able to input your information on that and see how many weekly points you get. I believe it is free, so not money being shelled out for finding your answer!

Can anyone help me get with weight watchers points as I can’t afford to join. I am 187 pounds in weight I would love to lose 2 stone thanks

    • shrinkingwmn September 27, 2020 at 1:15 am #

Hi Norma, apologies, I didn’t see that a comment had been left here. I’m not able to give you your daily and weekly points because the program has changed so much. It uses a lot of technology now and I am not able to accurately calculate points for other people. Also, there are three programs now, Green, Blue, and Purple, your points will vary depending on which program you choose, your height, gender, age, and current weight. If you can give me more of your stats I can give you a guess but that’s about it.

There’s a great free app for tracking WW current point system: iTrackBites. It also calculates how many WW points you’re allowed.

  49. Carrie V. April 2, 2023 at 10:07 am #

I’m currently on WW and I started 2 weeks ago at 260,F, 45, 5’10” I get 33 points a week and 28 bonus points to use anytime for that current week. You can only roll 4 points a day over to the next day and Sunday is your last day to use any of your points as Monday you start fresh. I have lost 7.7 lbs in 2 weeks.

Thank you! My husband has seen my weight loss without suffering with WW and he was curious … your site gave him the “handle” to open the door to the WW journey.

I am 85 and I weigh 230 lbs am 5’3″ and I’m a female. I can’t seem to figure points correctly. Could you help?

  54. Amy B October 4, 2023 at 11:04 am #

Cool! With all the free point foods I was not losing weight most weeks. I still use the ww app but I added the Healthi app and track my calories on there. I’m trying to stay within 1500 – 1800 calories. I am 5 foot 11 and 62 years old- I want to lose 75 lbs and I have lost 12 in a month and a half. On the weekends I eat more food to “cycle up” and have avoided long plateaus of not losing weight. I try to stay under 2800 on the weekend days. I love Healthi because I can see if I am eating enough carbs, protein and fats. You can choose how many calories you want to eat each day. ❤️

This is complicated. My husband is 86 years old;stands 5’10 and presently weighs 190.
How many points does he get Dailey.
    Thank you.

  56. Donna January 10, 2024 at 3:27 pm #

I’m 76. My calculations come out to 18 points a day, which seems so little. I see none of the questions asked if you exercise. I take spinning classes 3 times a week and strength exercises 2 times a week. How many points do I add to the 18?

  57. Michelle Wasson April 4, 2024 at 7:20 pm #

this is accurate for 2024 in case anyone is wondering as on here my total is 37 but in the actual ww app they give me 47
