A New Fruit, A New Chocolate

11 Feb

I got given a new-to-me fruit today, I thiiiink it’s a papaya?

What are youuuuuu?

What are youuuuuu?

Luckily I was given instructions on what to do with it, I was told to peel it, cut it in half, scoop out all the black seeds, and enjoy. Sounds easy enough right?

And guess what? It really was easy lol

The poor fruit had an unfortunately hard ride home in my purse so there were some super soft spots but hey, it happens, shrug. I used a carrot peeler, for some reason I was expecting the skin to be thick like an orange but it wasn’t, it was thin and really easy to peel.

The flesh was firm on the outer parts, the parts that were right under the skin but the farther inside you go the softer the fruit. I didn’t handle it very gently so it kinda turned partially mushy by the time I put it in the bowl, hence the unattractive picture below…

not the prettiest looking food...

I’m not sure if I like it or not lol At first I was all “hmm, ok, it’s alright” but the more I ate the less I enjoyed it. I also got a tummy ache out of the blue, not sure if it was from the fruit or not but the pain coinciding with the eating of the fruit makes me suspicious. I ate a little under half of it and then quit it. I’m tempted to chop it smaller and put it in oatmeal tomorrow for breakfast, maybe it’ll be better then…or maybe it’ll ruin the oatmeal? Oh the horrors! lol πŸ˜›

I also tried a new hot chocolate this evening and Mmm! Mmm! Mmm! πŸ˜€

My Uncle (who is all kinds of awesome!) sends me various goodies from England. He knows I am trying to lose weight, actually, I don’t know if he does know that…but he knows I like Weight Watcher products and that every other country in the freakin world has a wider variety of Weight Watcher foods than Canada. sigh. What’s with that??

Anyways!

He sends me these great hot chocolate packages and this evening I tried a new one, it is Caribbean Coconut and holy cannoli did it smell delish right from when the water hit the powder!

It had a subtle coconut flavour, oddly enough the coconut smell was stronger than the taste but that’s ok cause the taste was still good. They have an orange chocolate that is da bomb! I only have one of those left so I am holding off on drinking it cause once it is gone it won’t be replaced soon and that is all kinds of sadness. πŸ˜› The packages are small, and I like my hot chocolate to be strong so I either use one package and only half a cup of hot water or two packages and a full cup of hot water. This evening I did two packages, to be honest I usually go the two packages route, I mean c’mon, who wants half a cup of hot chocolate? Not me!

Not a Papaya fan either – more of a mango girl. :). Good job trying something new. I’ve been eyeing this orange fruit with spikes all over it for a couple weeks at our grocery store. Maybe I will give it a try this week. πŸ™‚ That hot chocolate sounds delicious!

      Hi! πŸ™‚
Oh yeah, I loooove mango! When I’m giving myself a huge treat I make sticky rice with coconut milk then put slices of mango on top, Mmm, super tasty!
Hmm, that fruit sounds familiar but for the life of me I can’t remember the name…have you tried it yet? I really like trying new foods but I never know what to do with them lol (ya know, how to cook them or prep them…) thank goodness for moms and google lol
It really was delish, if you ever have a chance I recommend giving it a try πŸ™‚
Thanks for reading and commenting! πŸ™‚

Options hot chocolates are my favourite. I take the little sachets to work for chocolate emergencies and have tubs in the house. Orange and mint are lovely, belgian chocolate is nice too. Haven’t tried coconut yet. Next time I stock up on sachets I’ll try one. I follow slimming world and get 10 “syns” a day to spend on naughty things. These are only 2 syns. Definitely taste better with milk though πŸ™‚

hmm, I never would have thought to try them with milk…I just might attempt that on a day I’m below my calories lol We don’t have slimming world here, is that like weight watchers?
whoa, wait, the hot chocolate comes in tubs?? man, that’d be great! I wouldn’t be nearly as worried about running out then! lol

All the flavours are listed here… http://www.optionstreats.co.uk/explore-the-range/
I finally tried the coconut one today. Really nice, but just wasn’t the same with water in stead of milk. I’ve got caramel, orange and hazelnut stashed in my desk for another bad day, yum!
Slimming World is a bit like weight watchers, it’s an eating plan as well. You get “free food” that you can eat as much of as you like, then you get to pick an A choice which is something high in calcium (where I get my milk from), a B choice that provides fibre and you get syns for naughty things like butter and chocolate etc. I was always hungry on weight watchers and gave up pretty quickly 😦

Oh yum! I took a look at the site, those look soooo tasty! I’m going to Wales then to England in July so I’ll have to stock up when I am there. πŸ™‚ You’ve got me curious to try one of my weight watcher hot chocs with milk now, if I can justify the calories next time I have one I’ll warm up milk instead, I bet it’ll be way creamier. πŸ™‚
Slimming World sounds pretty good, I’m glad it’s working so well for you. πŸ™‚ I lost 35lbs om weight watchers then plateaued for a good 6 months, since then I’ve been struggling to find something that I can stick with consistently, that works and that is long term…it’s not going all that well lol Ah well, I’m sure I’ll find something eventually *crosses fingers*

I lost 23lbs last time on slimming world then plateaued. Made the big mistake of quitting. Gradually my eating habits changed back and two years later I’m back at square one! Plateaus are hard to get past. Hope you manage to figure something out x

        Wow! 23lbs, that’s awesome! πŸ˜€
I don’t think my quitting Weight Watchers was a mistake…I was plateaued for so long I obviously wasn’t going anywhere with it any longer and while I didn’t find something concrete to follow after Weight Watchers I did somehow manage to not gain back everything I had lost. I sadly gained a bit over this past year, which sucks, but I always fall back on the things I learned from Weight Watchers (proper portion sizes etc) to slooooowly lead me back to following a healthier meal plan.
You sound like you’re doing really great when I read your blog, I’m sure you’ll lose all you gained back soon – well as soon as is healthy! lol πŸ™‚
