Yah for Today!

31 May

Today was a fairly great day. 😀

I stayed up last night until 2am for absolutely no good reason. lol. I am naturally a night owl, if I don’t have to get up at an ungodly hour of the morning to go to work I end up staying up super late cause, well, it’s what my natural sleep cycle prefers. shrug. I stay up late, I sleep in late, it works for me. 🙂 Some people see sleeping in late as a waste of a good chunk of the day but I don’t – I think it’s un-natural to be up early in the morning, ugh. lol.

But anyways, I stayed up late then slept in until noon, aahhhhh, such a nice time! If you think about it, it’s not being lazy, I’m not getting anymore sleep during the night then someone who goes to bed earlier and wakes up earlier, I just like getting my sleep later in the night/day then others. lol. So, after waking up at noon I rolled over and dozed for another hour cause, well, I could. shrug. By 1pm I managed to get my butt outta bed, had a quick wash, ate a decently healthy breakfast, digested for a little bit then went hiking. It was my regular 3.8km hike so nothing out of the ordinary but it was a little weird going for a hike at 2 in the afternoon on a Tuesday…it’s amazing how many people are out walking at that time…I mean, don’t these people have jobs? lol. 😛

After the hike I came home and did some free weights, some ab work, some stretching – all the normal stuff. Earned myself 6 exercise points – wOOt! 😀

I had to spend a chunk of time on hold after that waiting to talk to someone who works for the government about my EI claim – it took for-frickin-ever but I eventually got a person (who was super friendly and knowledgable) and she helped me with my questions, she even went kinda over board and explained a whole bunch more stuff to me…things I had actually already read on the website but, shrug, she’s probably used to people who don’t fully read the site and ask all kinds of questions lol. I’m ok with the extra info, I think it’s better to be told the stuff you already know and possibly learn something you hadn’t already read then not be told anything and later find out you’re missing a vital piece of info. Just my take on it tho…

Then I did some acting research online, I needed to find some sides to take to my audition class tonight and then – the best part – I had my audition class! 😀 I haven’t had any kind of acting class in ages cause they are really expensive and I was always so busy with work I couldn’t go. I was signed up for this class (it’s actually a set of 4 classes) for a couple weeks now cause luckily they don’t start until 7pm, it seemed perfect because it would give me tonnes of time after work to get home, eat and get to the class – now I have even more time to get there lol.

The class went so amazingly super great! I obviously need to expand on my descriptive words lol. I got wicked good feedback, looks like even though I have been away from classes for a loooong time I haven’t lost my touch, sweeeeeeet! 😀 It’s a small class, 6 students and 1 person auditing so we all got a lot of one on one time with RH (the teacher), he is a great teacher, a really positive, supportive, friendly, non stress inducing guy. Auditioning is a way stressful thing, it’s harder then being on set and actually filming and some auditioning teachers make even the class stressful but RH makes it fun. And how great is it learning new things, perfecting your technique, re-enforcing what you already know all while having fun? 🙂 Man I love acting. 😀

Because of exercising and having earned exercise points I was way below my points for the day by the time class was over (class ended at 10pm) so when I got home I was starved. lol. I made what would normally be a meal – a bagel sandwich, yum! – and then followed it up with dessert. Double yum!

Today I ate:

29 grams Special K = 2 points

1/2 c 1% milk = 1 point

2 pcs toast = 1 point

1 tbls whipped peanut butter = 2 points

1 Activia yogurt cup = 2 points

1 banana = 1 point

2 serv hash browns = 2 points

1 scrambled egg = 2 points

1 turkey burger patty = 3 points

1 bagel = 5 points

2 slices deli turkey = 0 points

1 tbls light cream cheese = 1 point

baby spinach, tomato = 0 points

1 thinsations Oreo cakesters = 2 points

1 Skinny Cow Choc Fudge Brownie ice cream = 2 points

Total points eaten = 20 daily points, 6 exercise points

Exercise points earned = 6

Perfect! 😀

Now I know, I should of had some fruit for my evening snack after my bagel sandwich instead of the oreo cakesters and the ice cream, and I almost did…but, well, in the end I didn’t lol. Not sure why, I wasn’t craving chocolate or anything sweet like some other days, shrug, I just grabbed the processed sweet stuff instead of the fruit. lol.

So now it’s 1:15am and I am tired, the exercising and the energy output acting takes have taken a bit of a toll on me and I want to go to bed but I’m tired enough I am typing slower then normal and I feel like I am never gonna get there. lol. *yawn* I have to get up a bit earlier tomorrow then today cause I have to bake a pie to take to a dinner I got invited to tomorrow evening – the pie needs to cool for 2 hours min before serving so I need to make it earlier rather then later in the day. It’s a weight watchers recipe so I will post it under my recipes tab tomorrow so you can try it, it’s really tasty and I think only 4 points per slice so not bad at all! 🙂

Oh! Sorry, one more thing! The teacher, RH, was my teacher back in the day but I haven’t seen him since 2008, well, he took one look at me and was all “you look different, really different, what did you do?”, I could practically see the wheels turning in his head, lol, so I told him I lost 32 pounds and he was so amazed/excited/happy for me, lol, it was sweet having someone who hasn’t seen me in a long time notice asap something changed – sure he didn’t peg it as weight loss but that’s ok, I’m just happy he noticed a change at all. lol.

Dear Muscles, I’m Sooooo Sorry!

24 May

Oh my poor poor pathetic excuses of muscles, they are in so much pain and I am not pampering them in the way they are used to. Normally, if I exercise and actually cause my muscles to strain and thereby hurt/ache the next day I do everything I can to make it up to them. I move as little as possible, I eat comfort food, I wear warm clothes and have hot showers. lol. You’d think they were injured and not just being worked out. 😛

Last Friday I went to boxerfit class because dragon boating was cancelled due to the long weekend. It was oh so much fun and totally kicked my ass! I have the same curse as all other natural red heads in that as soon as I start doing cardio my face turns tomato red and I look as if I am going to pass out – I have had random strangers come up to me to ask if I am ok because I am so red I scare people, teehee. By the end of that class I was red red red! It’s really embarassing but oh well, nothing I can do about it, shrug.

Boxerfit works like this, it is an hour class that starts with intense interval cardio, then it moves to interval cardio combined with weight work for toning, then you get boxing gloves and have oh, I guess 20 minutes or so of boxing that you guessed it, is done in intervals. lol. Then a bit of stretching and abs and voila, it’s been an hour, I’m red as a tomato and sweating like a crazy person. 😀 I knew as soon as it was over I was gonna be in pain the next day lol.

Saturday rolled around and I hurt but not as badly as I thought I would – there was definite muscle aches and some pains but over all not so bad. Sunday however, ahahaha, that is when the pain hit! My poor calves were beyond aching and were hurt-ing! Every move made me cringe and I did my darndest to move as little as possible. Monday I was out and about and it hurt but not as bad as the day before and the pain was more concentrated – it was only specific muscles now.

Today, Tuesday, went to work, had all the normal stuff happen – which means I sat at a desk for most of the day, shrug, but when I got home, oh man, I ingested sooooo many stupid calories, *shakes head*, sigh. I don’t know what I was thinking! Even as I was eating it I knew it was too much food and I’d feel sickly after and it would put me way over my points and I should just NOT do it…that didn’t stop my arm from getting a workout by lifting the food to my mouth. *raised eyebrow*

After I finished eating my tummy was all popping out even more then normal and oh ew, I felt so gross. I just wanted to sit and veg on the couch, drink tea, and huddle down while trying to digest but then I started thinking about my fat cells. Some people think fat people have more fat cells, that’s not true, we are born with a certain amount of fat cells and we retain the same amount throughout our lives (unless you get liposuction and they are forcibly removed) but those silly fat cells can change size. The fatter you are the bigger your fat cells are…think of them like a tart vs a pie, a skinny person has fat cells the size of a tart, a larger person has fat cells the size of a pie…now, obviously not really those sizes but you get what I mean, right?

So, I was sitting on the couch drinking tea and watching tv and I started thinking about my fat cells, and how I just ate way too much food and if I didn’t do something about all those calories that just went in to my body then my body would turn them in to fat cause it was way more then what I needed for the day and oh man were my fat cells gonna streeeetch – and after all that work to make them smaller! I just couldn’t deal with it! So I got my lazy ass off the couch and went for a hike. 🙂

I had so many ways to talk myself out of it, examples of my excuses are (1) it looks like it’s gonna rain (2) my tummy felt icky from eating too much (3) I’m lazy (4) I have stuff to do in the apartment. Now see, they are all legit reasons so a person has to know if the reasons they are using to not exercise are a real reason or an excuse – for me, it is almost always an excuse. lol.

After my hike I did some push ups, some weight work, some ab work, stretching…frankly, I don’t know what got in to me, it was freaky and yet, I kept going…weird…lol

I don’t think I worked out enough to make enough exercise points to counteract all the food I ate when I got home (I haven’t had a chance to calculate everything yet) but at least I put some effort in to working off all those calories I ate…

So now I am sitting, writing up this post, drinking a big ass glass of water to rehydrate, and still feeling a bit icky from over eating earlier, imagine how much worse I would feel if I hadn’t exercised?! ack! But oh my poor muscles, I am not sure if the exercising I did this evening will make the muscles feel better tomorrow cause of stretching them and using them or make them feel even worse cause I pushed them too much too soon…guess we’ll find out tomorrow! 😛

Ow!

5 May

That OW is not a simple tiny little ‘ow’, it’s not a ‘I stubbed my toe’ or ‘I have a hangnail’ ow it is an OWWWWWWWWWW! I am hurt! Even typing is causing me pain. *pout*

I have a slight leaning toward whiny-ness when sick and/or injured. I am not as bad as some people but I do have my complaining moments – consider yourself warned! 😉

The building I work in offers these bettering yourself courses once a year to all the tenants so my friends at work and I signed up for the self-defence class cause well, duh, it’d be fun! lol. I went last year and had a blast so an even bigger group of us went this year. The way they run the hour long session is first you have warm up, then you pair up and go to a punching bag. The guy running the session shows you what move he wants you to work on and one person holds the bag while the partner performs the move on the bag – then you switch. Easy peasy right?

The section where you’re working on the bag is fun, and tiring, and works your muscles and did I mention fun? teehee. Anything where you get to punch and kick and basically pummel something without getting in trouble is truly awesome! I apparently have “violent tendancies” but I think it’s just that most people bury their feelings of violence, not that I have stronger feelings then others in that regard. lol.

After the punching bag part a guy comes in dressed in one of those huge padded outfits so that we can all take turns fighting him. hehe, Sweet huh? Well, we were supposed to use the moves we’d just learned on him and basically survive an attack, oy! It appears I have a tendency to fight instead of just hurt the attacker and run away which is what we are supposed to do, huh. You fight for 30 seconds, then get told what you are doing wrong, then go for another 30 seconds. I know 30 seconds doesn’t sound like long but it’s long enough to get incapacitated, thrown to the ground, trapped from behind, knocked over…it’s long enough for all kinds of stuff to happen. erg.

I ended up slammed to the ground, hitting an open drawer that was full of hand weights on the way down. Nice huh? The high point is I took the guy down with me! Oh yeah baby! Go girl power! I was so in to it I scrambled up quick and went to kick him in the nuts but managed to stop myself before I actually did – in real life I would have but this is some guy in a protective suit not a real danger. shrug.

After all that I got told what I should do better and was put back in for another 30 seconds, in the dude who ran the sessions defence he did ask if I wanted to sit out my second round cause I was hurt but I said no – like I am gonna let some guy best me?!?! Hell No!

Ok, I just went to go switch over my laundry and discovered new injuries…greeeeaattt. 😛 Both knees, both! Can you believe it?!?! omg I hurt *groan* Told you I’d get whiny!

I’m kinda pissed that the guy managed to get me to the ground, you’re not supposed to let him do that cause in real life if that happened well…bad! All kinds of bad!

My tally of injuries (so far lol) are: 1 skinned elbow, same elbow is swelling up and so far looks like a golf ball is attached to it lol, the joint/bones also hurt so I wonder if I did more then surface damage but can’t say for sure, my left knee is bruising and swelling and makes me limp also, I think there is fluid forming under the bruise, eewwww!, my right knee is skinned, bruised and the muscle or tendons or something hurts and the more I use it the more it hurts – wouldn’t be so bad but the left knee hurts the more it stays still, it stiffens up ya know?, so whether I sit still or move around I am causing more pain to one of the knees…oh, and it feels like a mild sprain in my right ankle.

Seems I am totally weak cause can you imagine if it had been a real trying-to-hurt-me guy and not some guy in a padded suit?? Must toughen up!

Today I ate:

3/4 C Vanilla Almond Special K = 2 points

1/2 C 1% milk = 1 point

1 C Maple Baked Beans = 4 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

85 grams whole wheat pasta = 5 points

1/2 C Hunt’s Thick n Rich premium pasta sause, original = 1 point

2 pieces bread = 1 point

2 tsp margarine = 2 points

Total points eaten = 17

Exercise pointes earned = 3 – 7 ??

I am not sure the best way to calculate the exercise points I earned, yeah I have my slidy thing so that’s not the problem, the problem is what intensity was it? Moderate or High? Moderate is you sweat after 10 mins and high is you sweat in 3-5 minutes…I was mildly sweating by the 5 minute mark due to the warm up and had a steady glow happening the entire time we worked the bag but my hike seems more strenuous then that work out…and the fighting part with the guy was probably High intensity but that didn’t last very long so doesn’t really count…I will probably count 3 exercise points and leave it at that, better to be a bit low then to calculate high and over eat right?

This means I have 6 points left to eat and I am so grateful since I am hungry! 😀 I haven’t figured out what I am gonna eat yet but I’ll find something tasty, you can count on it lol. Oh, sidenote! Last night, remember my dilemma about what to eat to use up that last point? I found a happy middle! A 1 point healthy snack, yah! I ate a banana, don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner…

I know I bitched about my injuries a lot and made the self defence class sound not all that great but I would do it again in a heartbeat cause it was fun, it was active and it taught me things that are good to know – don’t let my whining put you off taking one if ever you get the chance!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go ice my knees…or maybe apply heat…I’m not really sure…

This Could Be Very Bad…

23 Mar

I actually made it out hiking again, twice in a week – practically a miracle! lol. I know I used to manage two to three hikes a week before winter hit but a season of wonderful laziness has made hiking even once a week a pain in my…well, my butt, thighs, core…all kinds of muscle groups lol. 😀

That is not what could be very bad though…

I made a dinner I have been looking forward to for days! I used some of the left over ground beef, heated it up, combined it with mixed veggies, salsa, sour cream, cheese and some baby spinach, then I put it all in a wrap (well 2 wraps technically) and badaboom! Home made burrito…or would it be more of a soft shelled taco cause there was no rice or beans…either way, it was yummy! I made extra veggies and had some on the side and when all was said and done it was a great dinner. I always fill wraps too full so they are a tad messy but some of the best meals out there are messy so I’m not complaining. lol. 😀

The problem is I think my sour cream has gone a little off, it didn’t taste bad in the wraps but really, I could barely taste it cause there was so much other stuff in there – now though my poor tummy hurts. ugh.

I know it’s not the meat and I have had the sour cream for a little while so I am almost positive it is that…positive enough I am gonna throw it out…not that throwing it out will do me any good now. *groan*

I almost wish my body’s reaction was to be sick but it appears my body is going to try to digest it, sigh. Stupid body.

I ate two digestive cookies after in the hopes of making myself feel better, I’m not too sure how my logic works but it seemed like a good idea to eat something else – I think my reasoning is like when you are drunk and/or hungover, you eat something to soak up the alcohol right? Well, maybe I should eat something to soak up the badness? *raised eyebrow* Sadly, this plan is back firing. *double groan* I have only eaten 18 points today and I earned 7 exercise points so I am a loooong way to go before being done with food for the day – although, if my tummy doesn’t start feeling better I just may be done with food for the day cause no way do I want to put anything else in there when I feel like this.

Today I ate:

1 pear = 1 point

1 apple  = 1 point

2 cups Campbell’s Market Vegetable Blend soup = 4 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

1 orange = 1 point

2 Bodywise wraps = 2 points

1/2 cup ground beef = 4 points

30 grams light shredded cheese = 2 points

1 tbls light sour cream = 0 points

carrots, peas, green beans, corn, bean sprouts, salsa = 0 points

2 digestive cookies = 2 points

Total Points Eaten = 18

Total Exercise Points Earned = 7

So, here’s a first, I am at negative 9 points for the day and have no plan for further eating…usually when I am under my daily points I know what I am going to use my left over points on, and I know what I would eat if I was feeling ok but, well yeah, it’s just not happening today.

What a waste of exercising! I was so looking forward to some toast with nutella on it or a bowl of the Just Bunches cereal but even the idea of food is making me feel worse, *rolls eyes*, stupid stupid body – and to be honest, stupid me for eating sour cream that was suspect.

Oh well, nothing I can do now but sip on some water and hope this gets better soon – and pay better attention to expiration dates from now on! 😉

3 Points Left…

31 Jan

I have 3 points left for the day and I don’t know what to eat! I know what I want, lol, shocking I know, *rolls eyes* I want peanut butter…buuuuut, if I put peanut butter on bread that’ll use my last 3 points and that means no sweet little nibbly…hmm, is the peanut butter worth that sacrifice? Probably not…but the dilemma remains…what to eat?

I had a super yummy mid day treat that was totally unexpected. IF at work brought home made dumplings (IF is Chinese and knows what she is doing when it comes to cooking!), I am not sure of all the ingredients, she told me I just can’t remember, oops! lol What I do know is they rocked! 🙂 They were steamed (good) and small (good) and full of healthy stuff (good) which is why I didn’t feel guilty eating some of them. 🙂 I googled to try to figure out the points and found huuuge variations cause it depends how they are cooked, what is in them, all kinds of stuff. I decided to take one of the lower points calculations cause all the ones I found online were from restaurants and I know these ones are healthier then any you’d get in a restaurant!

OMG! haha, sorry, I literally just realized that I have Exercise Points cause I had Zumba class tonight so I don’t have 3 points left I have 6! 😀 I wouldn’t normally interrupt myself in such a manner that not only ruins the flow of my words 😛 but gives you a glimpse of how screwy my brain can be sometimes but this was just too funny to not share! lol. I am soooo having peanut butter on bread now! wOOt!

Ok, back on track, the dumplings…uh yeah, I think I was pretty much done talking about them, they were delicious, home made, healthy-ish and a nice little treat. She said she brought them because I am always bringing baking in to work and she wanted to share with me and some others, well, lemme tell you, her cooking is way better then my baking! Well…in my opinion…lol. 😉

So today I ate:

1 Instant Quaker Oatmeal = 3 points

1 cup chicken noodle soup = 2 points

1 crumpet = 1 point

3 dumplings = 2 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 cup brown rice = 4 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

1 tbls creole dijon sauce = 1 point

2 small pieces chicken = 3 points

Total points eaten = 18. Exercise points earned = 3. Points left to eat (in case you forgot lol) = 6!

I swear, the extra food points earned from exercising totally makes the exercising worth while. 😀 And now on to the peanut butter on bread! hooya! 😀

Oops! I Did It Again!

24 Jan

😉 Who doesn’t like a reference to Brittney Spears prior to the shaved head-bad marriage-crotch flashing-rehab sentenced period? Well, ok, probably most people don’t cause, uh, hello? It’s Brittney Spears, *gag*, but the line from the song seemed soooooo perfect!

I miscounted points today…wait, that’s not the correct word, I didn’t keep track properly and as a consequence I went over – even over my points when you add in the exercise points! Ack! I don’t feel badly about it though cause (1) I was really hungry and dude, I needed food and (2) I feel so good from my Zumba class that really, I just don’t give a flying fart lol 😀

Zumba tonight was so great! It was my first class back since before Christmas; I should have gone the previous two mondays but was too sick, sadness, I was a tad worried how I would do tonight cause of slacking off activity wise since before Christmas and also cause I still get coughing fits (though not as bad as before!) but how sucky would it be to start hacking up a lung in the middle of the salsa? 😛 Luckily for me, no huge coughing fits, yah! Couple minor ones but nothing that made anybody look and really, what more can a person ask for? lol.

I really pushed myself tonight and I am glad – that class totally made me sweat…and my abs still hurt, oh my! If they still hurt now imagine how they will feel tomorrow?  Oh the things we do to ourselves in our quest to get skinny!

So let’s see what I ate today!

1 package instant Quaker Oatmeal = 3 points

1 Lean Cuisine Chicken a L’Orange = 4 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 orange = 1 point

1 banana = 1 point

1 piece bread = 1 point

1 tbls light peanut butter = 2 points

1 cup mashed yam = 3 points

1 whole wheat wrap = 2 points

1/4 cup pizza sauce = 1 point

30 grams shredded light cheese = 2 points

mushroom and tomato = 0 points

6 slices pepperoni = 4 points

Total points eaten = 26 😦

Exercise points earned = 3 🙂

So, with my 21 daily points + my 3 exercise points I should have eaten 24 points of food…instead I (in all my brilliance, sigh) ate 26 points which means 2 more flex points bite the dust! This is just a bad bad bad week for flex points!

I’m glad I don’t feel guilty about eating over my points today cause frankly I can’t stand anymore days this week where I feel bad about what I ate or how much I ate or how stupid of a decision I made food wise, shrug, so for today sure I over ate but I exercised too! And sure, I messed my points up again (ala Brittney Spears and her screw ups) but I can learn (theoretically) and maybe I won’t do this again…at least not too soon! Hope springs eternal on my couch tonight! 😉

A Better Week So Far

29 Nov

This week is already starting off better then last week, Yah! 😀 😀

It’s Monday so I had Zumba class after work, I didn’t get to go last week cause of being sick so it was really great getting to go this week. 🙂 There were new moves and new music this week and the ab section was all standing up exercises this time, normally the ab section is done on the floor, change is good! It makes it fun to go cause you know it’s not gonna be the same moves an music every week and it keeps your body from losing the benefits of the exercise, screw you muscle memory! ha! 😉

Also, I have eaten well for 3 days straight, no flex points for moi! I did eat my exercise points tho, but that’s ok. 🙂

So, today I ate:

54 grams Fibre 1 = 3 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 small banana = 1 point

1 green apple = 1 point

1 bowl weight watchers veggie soup = 0 points

1 weight watchers english muffin = 2 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 Activia Yogurt = 2 points

mixed raw veggies = 0 points

1 Cup Fire Roasted Sweet Pepper and Tomato soup = 2 points

1 open faced sandwich = 5 points

    – 1 weight watchers hamburger bun toasted (2)

    – 4 slices deli turkey slices (1)

    – 2 cheese slices (2)

    – baby spinach leaves, mustard (0)

1 piece bread = 2 points

1 tsp margarine = 1 point

1 tbls light peanut butter = 2 points

4 Lifestyles shortbread cookies = 4 points

Exercise Points Earned = 3 points

Total points eaten = 24, but that’s all good cause that’s 21 daily points and 3 exercise points. Perfecto! 😀

I totally copied my dinner today from a friend’s lunch at work that she had last week. lol. It’s an open faced sandwich with cheese, turkey slices, some baby spinach leaves on top and a bit of mustard – practically a work of art! It is soooo good. 🙂 I had it yesterday too. I have never been one to embrace open faced sandwiches, I don’t know why really, I just prefer my sandwiches closed, shrug, but since turkey is so low points wise and the spinach leaves are zero it made sense to do the sandwich open. I should’ve taken a picture it was that good! lol

Oh, so, I kinda cheated on sunday – not food wise! But scale wise. lol. I cheat with the scale so often it’s almost ridiculous. *rolls eyes* My rule is I weigh myself on saturdays, no sooner no later, but quite often I weigh myself on sunday as well cause I don’t like what I saw on saturday and I want to see if the next day is better. lol. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. shrug. Well, here’s what happened this past weekend. Saturday I weighed in and was the exact same as the previous week, sucky but my own fault, sigh, well, on sunday I was down 0.8 pounds, yah! That means that as of sunday I am 0.2 pounds away from hitting the 20 pounds lost mark, wOOt! However, I decided to not count the 0.8 pounds loss the scale showed sunday cause this way, next saturday when I weigh in my results will be that much more exciting! Right? Well, as long as the weight keeps going down it’ll be that much more exciting, lol. Since I seem to have found my willpower again I think I will be ok and have a good weigh in this coming saturday but who knows what will happen? Ooooh, the suspense of the unknown future! haha.

Some Confusion Happenin Over Here

14 Oct

It is thursday which means I exercised…yes, somehow I am still managing to do that! lol. The weather was crap most of the day, raining and blah, I am on the 24th floor at work and our view was of the cloud we were in…which to tell the truth I enjoyed, made me feel like I was in the Jetsons. lol. Remember that show? Man, I want to be in the far far far future so bad! Someone needs to invent time travel and I need to be important enough to get to use it…ok, I’ll stop now…lol

who wouldn't want to be in a building that high? or in a flying car? awesome!

While at work I kept looking out at the clouds and the rain hitting the windows and cursing the weather cause yeah, I sooooo don’t hike in the rain. *shakes head* it’s just not gonna happen. I didn’t want to not get my thursday exercise time in and sure, I can use the stationary exercise bike I have but (1) I was hoping to hike as much as possible before the weather makes it impossible and (2) thursdays my roomie watches a bunch of tv shows so she’d be stuck listening and seeing me on the bike while trying to enjoy tv and that’s just not cool. Well, by the time I was on my way home the rain had stopped, it still looked like it was threatening and it was way cloudy and overcast but shrug, whatcha gonna do? I almost didn’t go out, I was uber close to hopping on the bike but I decided I’d just dress warm and suck it up. And it worked. I had to wear two shirts and a hoodie and my legs kinda froze cause my pants are summer weight, oh, and my hands stayed cold the entire time and I got to “enjoy” seeing my breath puff out in front of me – but put all that aside and it was fine. lol.

Here is where my confusion comes in, sigh, you calculate your exercise points using intensity level, the levels are graded as (1) Low, no sweating, (2) Moderate, sweating after 10 minutes and (3) High, sweating 3.5 minutes. Easy-peasy right? Well, normally right, but today? Not so. Normally on this hike I consider myself at the High Intensity level, I use the five minutes it takes to get to the trail as warm up and once on the trail really push myself so I am sweating pretty quickly…er, scratch that, I am glowing pretty quickly cause I am a lady and ladies don’t sweat we glow… 😛 So, normally I am glowing by the 5 minute mark thereby putting me in the High level, following so far? Well today was cold, not freezing I am in the dead of winter cold but it was around 8C which for all you Americans is…wait, I can do this…ok, who am I kidding, I googled it, it’s 46.4F which sounds a lot warmer to me then 8C lol. So definitely a nip to the air. This nip meant I didn’t start sweating, er, glowing, until much farther in to my hike. I was working as hard as I normally do but my body just wasn’t getting that warm that quick – I can not control the weather people! Trust me, if I did it’d be a hell of a lot warmer all the time!

Sooooo, how do I calculate the exercise points? Does my exercise become a moderate intensity level cause I couldn’t get my glow on within the first 5 minutes of my hike cause of weather conditions? Or do I still count it as High cause I know that in non-cool weather it is a high? A dilemna that’s for sure!

Oh, fyi, it is a dilemna I have yet to solve so don’t be looking to this post to answer the question for you. lol. I will do some digging, see what I can learn and if I come up with something I will post it another day but for now? I am in the dark.

Let’s see what I ate today:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 small banana = 1 point

1/2 cup cottage cheese = 2 points

1 Lean Cuisine Chicken a l’orange = 4 points

1 peach = 1 point

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

baby carrots = 0 points

29 grams beefless tips = 1 point

95 grams Green Giant Simply Steamed broccoli and carrots with garlic and herbs = 1 point

1 cup tomato soup = 4 points

1 toasted sandwich

    – 2 pieces bread = 2 points

    – 2 turkey bacon strips = 2 points

    – 2 cheese slices = 2 points

    – 1 tbls light miracle whip = 0 points

Exercise Points Earned = 4

Total points eaten is 26 which is my 22 daily points and my 4 exercise points. 😀

Case you are wondering, I guessed on my exercise points. lol. Since I hadn’t answered my exercise point calculation question I guesstimated. shrug. It’s all good. 🙂 I actually felt a little weird cause I always have something sweet at the end of the day and I didn’t have the points for it so no little piece of chocolate or cookie for me, sadness. I didn’t miss it though, I was nice and full from dinner and felt fine without it – which is a relief cause I didn’t want to go over my points tonight, not when I have gone over in record numbers so far this week and I am going out after work tomorrow and eating who knows what!

Oh! Happy news! Tonight, on the flat area of the trail at the end, I did three jogging/running spurts! wOOt! Last tuesday I managed two jogging/running spurts so today I thought I’d see if I could do better…oh, and they lasted longer too, oh yea babeeee! teehee.

Did I Really Do That?

7 Oct

I did something I totally never thought I would do – I had the idea on my way home from work and before the idea was even fully formed a different part of my brain (normally the louder part) was yelling at least 10 different reasons to not go through with the idea. What was the crazed idea? It was simply this – go for a hike after work so I get some exercise.

Crazy, right? lol. Even though I spent the whole rest of the way home justifying not going out for a quick hike I still somehow went…it’s like I don’t even know myself!

Here were my reasons to not go: (1) I am lazy (2) it looks like it is gonna rain (3) sunset comes way early now and there is a lot of overgrowth along the path so it gets dark on the path soon as the sun starts to dip down (4) I am lazy – that one deserves to be repeated (5) I didn’t have an afternoon snack so I won’t have enough energy to finish the path…there were more but you get the idea.

Here is what convinced me to go: (1) I wanted to earn exercise points to make up for the higher point lunch I had (2) the weather will be nasty soon and I won’t actually be able to use the path cause it’ll be all mud and for real too dark by the time I get home so I should use it while I can (3) for some weird reason I wanted to, I think cause I got in to a habit of exercising on tuesdays and thursdays, my body now seems to expect it…that’s it, only three pathetic reasons to go versus a whole slew of reasons to not go and what did I do? I went! *rolls eyes* logic just thrown out the window. *shakes head*

I didn’t do too badly though, better then the last time I went – course the last time I took that path I was 11.6 pounds heavier, I may not be in a shape even remotely close to being called “good” or “decent” but I can tell the difference between hiking 3.8 km at my starting weight and hiking it now. wowza.

When I was on the path, I was about mmmm, 15 minutes in maybe and I was thinking how I was doing pretty well, good form, decent speed stuff like that and then this guy comes up from behind, now instead of hollering out “left!” so I move over to the side of the path he goes off the path, leaps like a frickin gazelle over a log and some bushes then pops up on the path in front of me – all without breaking his stride or seeming at all bothered by the extra exertion. uh, hello? You just leaped in the air, like…well, what the hell leaps? um, leaping antelope? Yeah, let’s go with that! Who does that?!?! Freaky way in shape people, that’s who! I suppose if I had almost no body fat I could leap all over the place too, harumph. 😛

Today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1 nectarine = 1 point

1 Lean Cuisine Sweet n Sour chicken = 5 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 english muffin = 3 points

1 burger patty = 4 points

1 cheese slice = 1 point

1 corn on the cob = 1 point

1 tsp margarine = 1 point

1/2 cup mashed yam = 1.5 points

1 Quakers Crunch’ers = 2 points

Exercise Points Earned = 5 points

Total points eaten is 26.5 which sounds horrible but! that is my 22 daily points and 4.5 of my exercise points. 😀 So take a deep breath, it’s all good. lol.

I had to guesstimate on how many exercise points I earned today, I would call the path a moderate activity level and it took me an hour to complete but that would only give me 3 exercise points and I worked out way harder tonight then I did in the swordfighting classes and those classes got me 3 points. So I thought ok, calculate it as a strenuous activity level but that would be 9 points – no way it was worth 9 points! I decided to compromise and picked a number in between the 3 and the 9. shrug. My own kind of math. lol.

It’s weird how people say exercise gives you energy, it never does that for me. It’s like my endorphines didn’t get the memo or something. shrug. Once I got home I showered, put laundry in, ate dinner and during all that all I wanted to do was go to bed. It’s still all I want to do but I have to wait for the dryer to finish, sigh. But hey, it’s all good, the long weekend is almost here and then I can sleep all I want! 😀

Don’t Even Try Saying That!

5 Oct

Any of you who say ‘cleaning isn’t or doesn’t count as exercise’ – well, all I can say to that is ‘you haven’t seen ME clean!’ Oh, and go jump in a cold lake. lol. 😀

I need a new exercise routine since my sword fighting classes ended last week; originally I was gonna hit up the community centre gym tuesdays and thursdays for eleven visits (I have an eleven drop in pass) but decided to do something a little different. I cleaned. Not just simple dusting but deep cleaning, the type of cleaning that would make a maid proud. lol. Today I chose the bathroom. Exciting huh? 😛

The only things I didn’t clean were the walls and the door and the only reason I didn’t clean those was cause I was running out of time before the Biggest Loser started and I didn’t want to miss any – oh and I still hadn’t had dinner at that point and was getting quite hungry. The things that drive me – tv and food! lol. The walls and door not being cleaned is kinda bugging me so I will probably take care of that on the weekend, not like it’ll take long.

Now, not only did I clean but I made an effort to use motions that could count as exercise, for an example, when I was scrubbing the shower walls I did squats while moving from the top to the bottom of the wall – does that make sense cause when I re-read that it sounded weird. lol. I made sure to stretch up then bend over – like in yoga poses, um, what else did I do…I can’t think of other motions to describe but I am sure you get the idea. 🙂

Now my bathroom is shiny and clean and my muscles actually hurt! Because I didn’t sweat I didn’t really consider the effort I put in all that much exercise but about 20 minutes after I was done cleaning when I was making dinner I realized my leg muscles were sore – the way they are after “real” exercise. Sweet huh? Now I am not saying clean instead of exercise, this is not a permanent way to swap out official exercise it was more of a ‘I am not quite ready to go to a gym and my bathroom was dirty’ type of thing but I think for today it was good. Wonder what I will do thursday? Oooooh, the suspense! lol. 😀

Today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 sandwich

    – 2 pieces bread = 2 points

    – 4 slices turkey = 1 point

    – 1 cheese slice = 1 point

    – 1 tbls light miracle whip = 1 point

    – tomato slices, lettuce, mustard = 0 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1/2 cup cottage cheese = 2 points

raw veggies = 0 points

85 grams whole wheat pasta = 5 points

1/2 cup Primo pasta sauce = 1 point

1/2 pckg Green Giant Essentials Fibre = 2 points

1 Slim Fast Optima whole grain muffin bar chocolate chip = 3 points

Exercise Points earned = 3 points

So I ate 25 points – that’s my 22 daily points and 3 exercise points and whaddya know I earned 3 exercise points, such a coincidence! lol.

Now you may be wondering what in the world I am doing eating pasta every day for how many days in a row now? No, I am not uber excited about the pasta with tomato sauce dish, in fact I hate tomato based sauces, lol, it’s just that they are a lot lower in points then the cream sauces I prefer – shocking I know! But I still have some of the jar left and no room to put it in my freezer so instead of not eating the sauce and then throwing it out cause I can’t tell if it went bad or not I am determined to eat it until it is finished. Hence my repeated pasta meal. ugh.

Oh, and no I don’t make it a habit of eating Slim Fast bars, I had it left in my cupboard from who knows how long ago and it seemed a better option for eating my exercise points then three points of pure chocolate. 😛 It was a tad stale but otherwise ok so I s’pose as a snack (if it was fresh) it wouldn’t be a horrible idea…it has 140 calories, 6 grams fat and 2 grams fibre. It was a decent size so worth the three points if you’re like me and sometimes have to find a way to use up those last 2-3 points in the evening. 🙂
