UK Trip Day 1: July 14/14

8 Aug

I started my first day of vacation by working, weird huh? But normal for me lol I like to start my vacations as soon as possible and not waste even a moment of time. πŸ™‚

I worked 7am-1pm then scooted off home to finish packing, cuddle with the cat, shower (I like showering as close to leaving as possible if there is more than a couple hours travel time, shrug) and all that other stuff you have to do last minute before leaving for an extended period of time. For all that I planned huge parts of my trip I didn’t give much thought to how I was getting to the airport or what time I should be there by, or really, any part of the first part of my travel, oops? I guess I figured it had to work out so why worry about it in advance, right? πŸ˜‰

My flight left at 6:30pm so I started for the airport a bit after 4pm, took a cab then a skytrain and meandered in to the airport a bit before 5pm. I breezed through the baggage check in, was randomly chosen for “extra screening” at security, sigh. I had the option of being patted down in such a manner I would feel the security person should buy me dinner first or being put in that machine that takes a super detailed picture of my body. I have experienced both before and opted for the body scan, it is quicker and it means my shirt won’t be lifted up in public lol

Random question: Am I the only one who sucks in their tummy when that body scan picture is taken? I know it is pointless to do so but I still do…

Anyways, I had enough time to get a snack from Tim Horton’s, my last little bit of Canada, before flying out. Sadly the donut I bought was stale, ugh, but the iced capp was yum! πŸ™‚

Last little bit of home :)

Last little bit of home πŸ™‚

The first leg of my flight was great, course, I love flying so I generally find my flights great lol I had a window seat, I always book a window seat, I’m a diva like that lol πŸ˜‰ It was a two seater row and there was nobody in the seat next to me so I got to stretch out which was an unexpected surprise. My plan was to wear myself out for days prior so that I would sleep during the flight, why else book an overnight flight right? I had to stay awake for dinner though, I love airplane food, but not only do I like the food I didn’t spend all that money on a plane ticket to not get my food! lol I chose the pasta dish, seemed safer than the chicken. There was a super moist chocolate brownie, how sad is it that the brownie on the plane was better than the donut I got from the Tim Horton’s in the airport? Something is seriously flawed there, tsk tsk Tim Horton’s! πŸ˜‰

Airplane food, yay!

Airplane food, yay!

I watched the movie Labor Day, which fyi, excellent movie! Then semi-watched Mamma Mia, I say semi-watched because I purposefully chose it because I have seen it before and figured I could doze off to it. My plan sort of worked…I did sleep on the flight but not a solid sleep, I was constantly drifting in and out of sleep and didn’t reach a deep sleep like I had hoped I would. I bought a sleep mask to wear and am grateful for it, I think I only managed to sleep as well as I did because of that and the weird u-shaped travel pillow I had. I must have looked ridiculous lol

We landed in London July 15th, a bit later than planned but that’s ok, I got some nice shots from the air…

DSCF0011

DSCF0013

I had to run through Heathrow Airport to get to my next flight, fyi, an hour and a half between flights is not enough if you are at Heathrow. When I was going through immigration the lady looked at my boarding pass and said “is your flight at one??”, my response was “if that is what the boarding pass says then yup”, she gave me a funny look then said she was fast-tracking me. I took that to mean I was running late but not like I can make the lines move faster, shrug. Even with being put in the fast line for security it took for freakin ever and since I didn’t have anything on me that had the time and couldn’t see a clock anywhere I was torn between mild panic because maybe I was about to miss my flight and didn’t know it and just chilling cause there is nothing I can do about it if I miss the flight and I’m sure it’ll all work out in the end lol.

Security didn’t like me, sigh, I forgot to take my water bottle out of the side of my bag so my entire carry on had to be searched because of that, oh, and I also got patted down to such a degree I felt like I was on a third date *rolls eyes* lol That was when the running started, running to the escalator, running down the escalator, running to the gate where luckily they saw me barreling down on them and kindly waited for me. Thank goodness they had snacks on the plane cause there was absolutely no time to get anything at Heathrow and the breakfast I got served on the first flight was long gone, it was a simple breakfast of yogurt and banana bread.

The flight between London and Manchester is short and I dozed through most of it, well, dozed or chatted with the cutie in the seat next to me. πŸ˜‰

Aaaaand this is turning in to a huge post so I’ll finish the rest of it in a second post…see you there! πŸ™‚

Return to Real Life

2 Aug

So, I’m back. Back to Canada. Back to my little apartment. Back to work. I think I’d rather be on vacation lol but who wouldn’t, right? πŸ˜›

I absolutely fell in love with Wales, there is something about that country that just clicked with me. It could be because it is beautiful, or the people, or just the fact that I was on vacation and having a blast…whatever it was I loved it there. πŸ˜€

The vacation didn’t go perfectly, in fact, the beginning of it was so sucky I was actively wishing to go home. By the end though I was having such a great time and I swear I blinked and boom! vacation over! What’s with that?? Boo!

keep-crying-the-vacation-is-over

I had intended to write posts every evening after my days adventures while on vacation, I was actually really excited to do that buuuuuut even though the websites for the places I was staying said they had wifi they didn’t, sigh. Nothing I could do about that, shrug. I also planned on keeping a journal while on vacation. I am horrible at remembering the names of places I go, and the details of things I do and I hate that I forget that stuff. I figured I would write in my journal every night so that years from now I could read it and laugh at all the random crap I was thinking or better remember all the stuff I did. I only did that for a while unfortunately. I was super tired one night and couldn’t stay awake enough to write everything down so I did some bullet points and thought I’d write more the next day but who has that kind of time? Not me, least not when I’m on vacation. So I let it slide. I’m surprisingly not too worried though because the trip has really resonated through me and I am grasping tight to all of my memories because I can’t bare to not remember. I figure I’ll remember long enough to write a bunch of blog posts about them and put together a photo album at least. *crosses fingers*

Since coming home I have embraced the new schedule jetlag has given me, I am awake early every morning and tired much earlier every evening then normal for me. I am kinda liking this whole get up early and have lots of time during the day thing…I don’t kid myself that it will last very long, I am naturally a night owl and all it will take is one day of sleeping in to mess with this new rhythm but for now I’m enjoying it. Today, before it was ten in the morning I had read a bunch of my book, showered, dressed, done dishes, done laundry, played with the cat and was sitting down to breakfast and a lovely cup of tea. Oh yeah, that is one other thing being up early has changed with me, I am eating more than once a day! Weird huh? I am up early enough I have breakfast, then lunch, then dinner, oh and somewhere in there I have a snack. Super weird lol πŸ˜› I’m making conscious food decisions, that means I’m not eating super super healthy but I am trying to balance every meal, I make sure every meal has a fruit or veg in it, is not huge portions and I’m working on increasing my protein (I always suck at getting enough protein). I’m hoping little changes will help implement bigger changes, healthier changes. For now though I’m focusing on eating three times a day, for me that is a big change and I want to cement the new routine before changing a bunch of other stuff.

I have decided that instead of doing one small-ish post about my vacation and trying to fit all the deets in it I will do a series of posts over the next week or so, each one detailing a different adventure or day of my trip. Consider yourself warned that my next week or so will be all about vacation memories, complete with pictures! πŸ™‚

For now though I have to go get ready for work, ugh. That is the hardest part for me when I come back from vacation, getting used to a schedule again. Sure, while on vacation there are places I have to be at by certain times or things I have to do at certain times but for the most part those are activities and places I chose, and I want to be there. Coming back and getting used to a schedule that I don’t have control over, and that requires me to be places I don’t wanna be, well, let’s just say laaaaaaame! Why do we as a society let ourselves get trapped like this? Ok, wait, I won’t even get in to that rant right now cause I so don’t have the time lol πŸ˜›

A Quick Note From Northern Wales

18 Jul

Yup, you read that title right, I’m in Northern Wales! Specifically, right this moment I am in Holyhead sitting on my bed in a nice little B&B about to go to sleep. Wales is like a little slice of calm and happiness and I’m quite enjoying my adventure. πŸ™‚

I had intended to write a post at the end of every day while on vacation and share my trip with you but a severe lack of wifi impeded that lovely intention. Hey, I’m staying in little towns, whatcha gonna do? Lol

I can’t wait to get some of my pictures up on here so you can see what I’ve been getting up to!…buuuut that won’t be tonight as I have to get up at 7am to go coasteering (so so so excited!) and I don’t wanna wait up the unknown amount of time it will take to get my pictures from my memory card to my iPad to my Dropbox to here lol oy! So many steps! lol

But trust me, they’ll be up soon and it won’t take long before you’re sick of my writing about Wales lol πŸ˜›

Stay tuned to hear, well…read, about my adventure, I think you’ll enjoy it! πŸ˜€

Happy Canada Day Eh?

1 Jul

Ah yes, it’s that time of year again, that one day in the year where we show our Canadian pride by waving flags, wearing red and white and watching fireworks. How is watching fireworks patriotic? I have no idea, it’s just somehow become associated with Canada Day, shrug. They aren’t even red and white fireworks, or shaped like a maple leaf or sponsored by Tim Horton’s so really, how patriotic can they be? πŸ˜‰

That's one big flag!

That’s one big flag!

I had planned to go hiking today, get out there, enjoy the beautiful summer weather, be one with nature an all that but I am still coughing (been coughing for over a week now, lame!) and oddly enough I had no desire to have a huge coughing fit in the middle of some trail on the side of a mountain, I know, I’m so weird *rolls eyes*. Instead I slept in, cuddled with the cat, read a bit, watched some tv and then went to go hang with KL.

The first part of my day may seem lame, although I enjoy staying at home doing whatever but just so you don’t think I’m a hermit or anything I’ll tell you about the social part of my day. πŸ™‚

KL and I made dinner at her place, I love her place, it’s so cute! I had this brilliant idea that we should do burgers and some sort of side dish, maybe even bbq it…it seemed like the perfect summer dinner idea. However, the lack of a bbq was an issue, though not as large of an issue as you might expect since I’ve never actually cooked on one and would probably have killed the burger patties lol Instead we cooked them in a frying pan, well technically I cooked them, yup, that’s right, I cooked. Me. The one who sucks at cooking actually cooked. Oh and get this, not only did I cook the burgers I also made them, from scratch! Anybody fall down from the shock of reading that? Oh wait, you’re already seated cause you’re reading my blog so phew, you are all safe! πŸ˜‰

It is a dead easy burger recipe but one I very much enjoy. Each patty is 4oz of lean ground turkey meat, 2 tblsp salsa, 2 tblsp diced red onion. That’s it. No, I’m not kidding, that really is all you need. The amount of turkey I bought was enough to make three patties so I just tripled the amount of salsa and red onion and voila! I had these…

home made turkey burgers

home made turkey burgers

Three oh-so-lovely but omg-icky-I-touched-raw-meat turkey burgers. The salsa adds flavour and moisture, the red onion helps the patties to bind. Once cooked the burger is moist and yummy. You have to be careful to not overcook them, after they have been flipped you can tell when you need to stop cooking them because a bunch of moisture starts releasing in to the pan, seriously, it is like the burgers are leaking or something, it’s weird lol, take em off the heat then and they will be perfect-o! πŸ™‚

Normally I eat them with the normal everyday burger toppings but I had an inspired idea (don’t ya love how I’m tooting my own horn over here? lol πŸ˜‰ ) and topped them with goat cheese and diced jalapenos. Mmm! Mmm! Mmm! Well, if you like goat cheese and jalapenos it’s a good idea lol We also used the more normal toppings, garlic mayo, ketchup, relish, mustard, lettuce, sauteed mushrooms and sliced tomato. The burgers were messy, as a good burger should be, but really tasty. KL, who is an amazing cook, really liked them so yay! I cooked something, for someone else and not only did I not food poison us or screw up the recipe but they really liked it! *happy dance*

KL’s contribution was a super delish salad! It had, hmm, lemme see if I can remember, spinach, apple, blackberries, poppyseed, home made dressing, sunflower seeds um, shoot…I can’t remember the rest. Oh, and so you don’t skip over what I wrote there, she made the dressing, from scratch! I’ve never even thought of doing that and she did it amazingly well! After her hard work the end result looked like…

KL's amazing salad

KL’s amazing salad

Look at that! Not only delish but beautiful too. That picture is before the home made dressing was put on – in case you were wondering lol

So the end result of dinner looked like…

A tasty dinner. :)

A tasty dinner. πŸ™‚

Not only tasty, and pleasing to the eye buuuuut healthy too! Yay! πŸ˜€ Always nice when you can make a healthy dinner also taste good lol

After dinner we went to watch the fireworks. There was a live concert and during the earlier part of the day there had been all kinds of things going on but being the people that we are we waited to go until later in the night so we could avoid all the little kids and families lol. The band we were near was actually really good, they were doing covers of all different sorts of music, people in the crowd were dancing, the band was funny between songs, overall a good choice by whomever picked them.

The fireworks show lasted a half hour, started at 10:30pm. It was kinda funny, KL and I had a great seat, on a log on the beach, it was still warm, you could hear (and see) the water lapping up against the sand, see people standing on the pier to our right, see the bridge to our left, it was really quite a beautiful night. So, this great atmosphere is happening and right on time to our left the fireworks start, then boom! To our right more fireworks start. Turns out we were between two different fireworks displays so everyone for the first little bit was turning their heads quickly from side to side trying to watch both shows and not miss anything – the crowd must have looked like one of those cat videos on youtube…

After about five minutes or so, yes, it took that long! the realization dawned that both shows are identical, yup, identical. So really you only had to pick which one you wanted to look at, or really, which direction was most comfortable for your neck, and you were set. The fireworks were pretty, and I would show you pictures but all my pictures of them suck, they either look like this…

that little red blob is what was actually a big beautiful firework, I swear!

that little red blob is what was actually a big beautiful firework, I swear!

or this…

again, looked waaaay better in real life, honest!

again, looked waaaay better in real life, honest!

I don’t know why my pictures of fireworks never work, sigh, guess you’ll have to take my word they were good but you can do that, right? πŸ˜‰

After the fireworks I came home and watched the movie Crazy Stupid Love and am now crushing a bit on Ryan Gosling. He looked yummier than my dinner lol πŸ˜‰

I have no words. No. Words.

I have no words. No. Words.

Looooong Weekend!

18 May

For those of you not here in Canada it is a looooong weekend, wOOt! πŸ™‚ I am not celebrating because I get a long weekend away from work, I am celebrating because I get to work the stat holiday thereby getting stat pay! Double wOOt! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

happy victoria day

So why the long weekend? May 25th is Queen Victoria’s birthday and who doesn’t like to celebrate a birthday? The Monday before Victoria Day is a statutory holiday throughout Canada, it is meant to honour Queen Victoria but it is commonly thought of as the beginning of summer.

It is practically tradition to go camping on this weekend which in parts of BC will be a pleasant experience, in most of the rest of the country it will still be quite chilly at night and is almost considered a test of strength lol.

In honour of Queen Victoria and the day off from work she is giving some of us and the stat pay she is giving the rest of us, here are some facts you may not know about her:

(1) She became Queen at the age of 18

(2) She kept regular diaries that you can readΒ here.

(3) She is associated with Britain’s great age of industrial expansion, economic progress and empire.

(4) She married in 1840 and had 9 children by 1857 – that is a lot of kids!

(5) Her hubby died in 1861, she wore black for the rest of her reign. Sadness.

(6) After her hubby died she almost completely stopped going out in public, with the encouragement of family she started taking part in public life again in the late 1860’s.

(7) Seven attempts were made on her life. Seven!! Eesh!

(8) Her reign lasted 64 years and she stayed active right till the end – reminds me of the current Queen!

She has some amusing quotes, if not all that positive or uplifting:

(1) Being pregnant is an occupational hazard of being a wife.

(2) I feel sure that no girl would go to the altar if she knew all.

(3) I don’t dislike babies, though I think very young ones rather disgusting.

(4) An ugly baby is a very nasty object – and the prettiest is frightful.

(5) I think people really marry far too much; it is such a lottery after all, and for a poor woman a very doubtful happiness.

(6) We are not interested in the possibilities of defeat. They do not exist.

I especially like that last quote, used when going to war. I think I might adopt it for inspiration when working out and I feel like I am hitting a wall, maybe insisting that defeat doesn’t exist will help me push a little harder next time I’m exercising…can’t hurt to try! lol

If you think of Queen Victoria at all you probably get an image like this in your head…

How she is remembered

How she is remembered

But don’t forget that once upon a time she was a young lady getting married in a crown made of flowers…

On her wedding day

On her wedding day

And before that she was just a little baby…

Awww, Queen V you were kinda cute!

Awww, Queen V you were kinda cute!

So there we have it, the reason so many people will be sleeping in tomorrow and why I will be getting paid time and a half! Thanks Queen V!…anybody care for a spot ‘o tea? πŸ˜‰

Chocolate Madness!

21 Apr

For the love of gawd, stop with all the chocolate! Just…Stop!

I don’t do the whole Easter thing but the amount of chocolate I have somehow ended up with is ridiculous! It is all gifted-to-me chocolate and I have done my best to re-gift some of it but I still have a whole bunch of it. And before you say something silly like “why don’t you throw it out? or give it all away” please remember that I am a girl and therefore love chocolate and some things you just don’t throw out, I mean c’mon, what a waste! It’s bad karma to waste food I’m sure of it! lol πŸ˜‰

Just today I got given an adorable little basket with lots of chocolate eggs in it. It was given as a thank you gift and while she was giving it to me she was apologizing for it being a day late, I loved her reasoning, she said the Easter Bunny got lost and couldn’t find me but he kept trying and voila! he found me today, well, found me via her lol

cute little basket

cute little basket

with chocolate inside, Mmm!

with chocolate inside, Mmm!

There’s actually a lot more chocolate in there then it looks like in the picture and just by looking at it I can feel my ass getting bigger, sigh.

I also have a Lindt chocolate bunny, he’s got a cute little collar with a bell on it. I fully intended to give it away Easter weekend I just didn’t know who to give it to so it is still here, with me, staring at me, judging my willpower against chocolate. Thing is, I can’t eat that, and not because I have some semblance of willpower, it’s too large for me to eat in one sitting but if I eat it’s ears (which seem the most logical spot to start) and then set it aside I am leaving the poor bunny maimed and deaf and that just seems cruel…

awwww, such a cute little bunny rabbit

awwww, such a cute little bunny rabbit

Oh and get this, in some weird twist of logic I don’t want to give the bunny to someone I care about because it’s basically giving someone a present that is super bad for them, I wouldn’t give someone a pack of cigarettes so why would I give them a chocolate bunny that has the potential to make them fatter, increase their BMI and entice them away from a healthy food choice? sigh, pathetic huh? I’m gonna turn in to that lame person that thinks bringing raw veggies without dip is an acceptable potluck snack…oh wait…I already think that, crap… πŸ˜›

I also still have the care packages from England that I am making my way through, Mmm! I opened these tonight…

omg sogoodsogoodsogood

omg sogoodsogoodsogood

The bottom is crunchy, like a cookie, then the soft gooey traditional Cadbury Creme Egg centre all surrounded by milk chocolate. Holy hannah! Cadbury is a genius! I usually buy myself one, yes that’s right, One Cadbury Creme Egg for Easter and thoroughly enjoy it. I don’t eat the chocolate though, I open up the top, use a finger to scoop out the yummy gooey centre then throw the chocolate away…one of the super rare times I won’t eat chocolate lol. These don’t give you the option, you kinda have to eat the chocolate but they taste so good I don’t mind. These will not last long, of that I am already certain lol

I have loads more chocolate around here but don’t want to bore you with pictures of all of it lol

On top of all these ticking-chocolate-timebombs I also ate an incredibly large quantity of food yesterday at the Easter brunch my work held, my stomach may never recover, omg all so tasty, all so fattening, all of it in my tummy…or at least that is what it felt like yesterday lol When I make food I plate it not on a dinner plate but on the small plate that comes with your dish set but at the buffet they were using large dinner plates so I had one of those and I, get this, actually covered the entire bottom of the plate with food! Normally you can see a good chunk of my plate when I use the little plate but yesterday I covered the entire bottom of a large plate! How is that even possible?? I didn’t eat all of it but truth be told, the food I didn’t eat was left behind only because I didn’t much care for it, so I can’t really take credit for resisting some of the food on the plate lol Then there was dessert…let’s not go in to details about that k? It’d just be embarrassing. Let’s leave it at there was dessert, I ate it. πŸ˜› What amazed me was how there I was, silently appalled at how much food I had put on my plate but most of the people there had pyramids of food on their plate, towers of food, basically a whole lot more food than I, and they ate it! People *shakes head* we are all gluttons at times lol

So here I am, someone who doesn’t generally do anything for Easter and I over-indulged in a huge meal and am surrounded by Easter themed chocolate. It’s like I crossed over to an alternate dimension…

Oh No You Didn’t!

18 Mar

Oh yes, yes I did! bwahahahahaha! πŸ˜›

Happy late St. Paddy’s Day everyone. πŸ˜€

What did you do over the weekend to celebrate? Did you drink green beer? Wear something dorky on your head? Pretend you are more Irish than you actually are?

I was working, as I am every weekend, so I didn’t go out and get drunk on green beer but I did wear a green dorky shamrock thing on my head. I meant to get a picture but it was such a busy work day the thought flew right out of my head. Ah well, there are enough dorky pictures of me in the world, another one isn’t really needed lol

How I celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is much more low key, and much more high calorie πŸ˜› I went to McDonald’s and got a Shamrock Shake and oh man was it goooooood!

Oh McD's how I miss you!

Oh McD’s how I miss you!

Look how green and minty and yummy!

Look how green and minty and yummy!

Oh and look, I found a pic from last year where I was wearing the same dorky green thing on my head…

I never look good in selfies lol

I never look good in selfies lol

So there ya have it, proof that I went and got fast food that wasn’t Subway, and here I am saying that will not be happening again until next St. Patrick’s Day…it’s gonna be a loooooong year! lol

V-Day an Stuff

14 Feb

Ohhhh Valentine’s Day, sigh, the day when single girls can’t catch a break. Either people shoot looks of pity your way because you are single and *gasp* not doing anything social on this oh-so-red-infused day or they read into everything you say/do and nod sagely while calling you out on your so-called bitterness. *rolls eyes*

my surprise valentine present

my surprise valentine present

People don’t seem to understand the concept of a single female who is happy being just that, single. It’s ok for guys to be single, people don’t go around thinking they are running out of time to get married, they don’t assume a guy is bitter about being single, they don’t even seem to feel the need to reassure the guy that they’ll meet the right one soon.

But single women? Oh man the comments that I have had thrown my way, a girl needs kevlar just to survive out there lol πŸ˜›

I don’t see why my being single gives everyone around me the self-appointed right to judge every aspect of my life. Although, to be fair, I judge a lot of people I know who are in disfunctional unhappy relationships but who aren’t taking any steps to get out of them because it is more comfortable to be un-happy but know what to expect then to make a drastic change with only the hope of becoming happy…I guess really, we all judge each other, it’s just so much more apparent at certain times of the year or at certain social situations.

I, as a single woman, am not allowed to make any sarcastic comments about Valentine’s Day, I can’t make rude jokes about it, not one snarky comment can pass my lips because I will be instantly branded as bitter. Which, believe it or not, I’m not. On the reverse, I also can’t make sappy remarks about it, I can’t want to see the newest romantic comedy that is in theatre and I can’t buy any of the chocolate for myself because I will be instantly branded as someone pining for love and pitied. Which again, I’m not.

There’s no winning!

So on that note, I am without sarcasm or sappiness wishing you all a Happy Valentine’s Day, I hope you spent the day eating whatever you wanted, hanging out with whomever you wanted (or avoiding all those you didn’t want to see) and I hope you were legit happy for at least part of the day. πŸ™‚

Onward to more exciting stuff!

Look what came in the mail today!

Armpocket 1-30

Armpocket i-30

*insert girly squeal here*

I’m sooooooo excited! I ordered this a while ago but it had to clear customs (it came from the states) so it took a bit longer than normal to receive. It is an arm band to hold my phone, keys and other small things while I am running. Lame to be excited? Maybe…but I don’t care, I’m excited! πŸ˜€

Every time I want to go running it is a juggling act of what goes in to which pocket and then when I am running I am constantly checking my pockets to make sure I haven’t lost anything. On top of that I usually have my phone in one hand (I use an app on there to track my distance, speed, calories burned etc) and in my other hand is my iPod so I can listen to music. I look ridiculous and never really feel comfortable when running because I am always worried about losing things. But this new toy will fix all that!

The one I bought is the i-30. I chose it because it was on sale. Yeah, really awesome research right? lol I did research it in 2013, and even went so far as to ask for it for Christmas but I didn’t get it. I figured oh well, maybe in summer I’ll buy one buuuut since I have to train for this run I signed up for (it is in May) I took a look at their site again and the one I wanted was on sale because they’d come out with a new version for 2014. Sweeeet! Since I didn’t care about the minor tweaks they made for the new version I bought the one I originally wanted but for cheap…well, cheaper. πŸ˜›

The specs:

-The fabric is made from recycled plastic bottles – which I love!

-It has a touch-through cover so I’ll be able to use my phone’s screen without taking it out of the armpocket.

-It has 3 interior storage compartments so you can carry your phone, keys, ID, energy bar etc – no more juggling things in my pocket for me!

-It is water proof.

-Ventilated straps so my arm won’t be a nasty sweaty mess under the strap when I’m running.

There are of course other things that the pamphlet and website say are awesome about it but these are the reasons I chose it. πŸ™‚

The only thing I’m not so impressed with are the pockets inside. There are three interior storage compartments to securely hold your items, the pic shows your credit card and ID fitting nicely in to one pocket while your keys and cash go in the second and then your phone is in the third. Well…hmm…those interior pockets that are supposed to be for my plastic and keys are small, as in narrow, as in I don’t think my ID or credit card would fit in one…it’s not like American ID cards or credit cards are different sizes so I don’t know why the pockets are so narrow…I’ll be fiddling more with it tomorrow and I’ll see, maybe my stuff really will fit in there ok? Even if they don’t fit perfectly I am still happy with it. Course, I’ll be happier after I’ve gone for a run with it on my arm and I know how well it feels and if it really doesn’t slide down the arm like they claim. lol

Shoot, I had other things I wanted to write about but this is already really long…sigh, I guess I’ll have to write a separate post *rolls eyes*

I hadn’t really told people that I was trying to enter in to the world of decaf tea, though I know some of my friends/family would have read about that on this blog. As you may or may not remember my foray in to the world of purchasing decaf tea was going horrible lol You’d think it’d be easy to buy decaf tea, or oh I don’t know, read the label on the tea to ensure it is decaf before purchasing it buuuut apparently that is just not something I do – read the label I mean lol I ended up on a couple different occasions buying a new type of tea thinking it would be decaf only to learn that it wasn’t. Not like it is the end of the world, the tea is still tasty but I was trying to buy decaf for a reason and my consistently buying caffeinated was messing with my plan. *rolls eyes*

Why did I want decaf tea? I was experimenting with something. See, I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep and while I don’t think the small amount of caffeine in my before-bed cup of tea was actually affecting my ability to get to sleep I thought it couldn’t hurt to cut out that small amount of caffeine from my nightly routine to see if the absence of it made a difference. Because I so thoroughly sucked at buying decaf tea I didn’t really get to test this hypothesis out before I left for my parent’s place for Christmas. Lucky for me my dad is now drinking decaf tea so my parents had a bunch of it in the house which means while visiting I drank his decaf tea at night. I didn’t notice a difference while I was there but it’s not like cutting out the caffeine hurt me either. shrug.

Since I’ve been back in BC I’ve been drinking my Tetley caffeinated tea and not really remembering I was going to try decaf teas at night, oops! In my defence I’ve been busy dealing with being sick then with this whole hip thing so I’ve kinda had other things on my mind. This evening though I actually remembered, practically a miracle! lol

What’s funny about my timing is that I had a headache this evening and made a cup of tea thinking I hadn’t had enough caffeine today and a quick cuppa would set things to right but while waiting for the water to boil I remembered all my lovely new decaf teas and randomly chose the Acai Berry flavour. Didn’t really clue in until I was sitting with my cup of tea in my hands and my laptop on my lap that this time I reversed my screw up. I was supposed to be drinking caffeinated to help with my headache but this time I chose decaf…it’s like I can’t manage to get this caffeine vs decaff tea thing straight lol

I have to invest in one of those loose leaf tea holding thingys…those ones that you dunk in a cup of hot water the same way you dunk a tea bag…I can’t remember what they are called…*confused face* up until now all my tea has always been in tea bags, and while this evenings choice of tea was also in a tea bag some of the teas I received were not, they are loose leaf (obviously lol)…which means I have no way to drink them lol

Actually, my mom did suggest on using a sieve, a small one, basically put some loose leaf in a tea pot, let it steep, then when pouring in to a cup put the sieve on top of the cup to catch the leaves. I can in theory do that but do you think I can find the small sieve that I was oh so certain I owned? Of course I can’t! lol So tomorrow while I am out I may or may not buy a loose leaf tea holder thingy, and oh man I can just imagine the look on the face of the person in the shop when that is what I ask for lol πŸ˜›

I’m Back and I Can’t Breathe

28 Dec

I’m sick and I can’t breathe and I have no appetite and I have to work tomorrow and I’m going to bed soon. *yawn*

I managed to catch a cold the day before I left Alberta, boo! Every time I go home for Christmas I get sick. Every. Time. I was so sure I’d managed to ditch that particular tradition but my immune system apparently had other ideas. Stupid immune system. lol

If you take away the getting sick part of my trip I had a great time! Got to hang out a lot with my parents which I am sooooo grateful for, I miss them lots and was glad to have a whole bunch of quality time with them. My last full day there I hung out with various friends. It’s always good to catch up and gossip with my peeps. πŸ™‚ I wish I’d been able to have a longer trip but even as I miss my family and friends that are in Alberta I also miss here. This is where I live after all, where my cat is, my BC friends, my soon to be awesome career (please please please let the acting gods be with me! lol).

One other thing I miss when I’m not here in BC? The weather! I left -21C weather (and colder) this afternoon to come back to +5 with nooooo windchill! wOOt! πŸ˜€ Also no snow, no icy roads, no winter in the traditional Canadian style lol

Normally I get sicker earlier in my Christmas visit and as a result two things happen. The first is my mom takes care of me for a couple days and that is always nice. The other is I lose weight. I’m the only person I know who loses weight every Christmas and ya know what, I don’t care if I lose it cause I am sick, I lose it and I keep it off and all is merry and bright. lol πŸ™‚

This year however I got sick late in the visit, the night before I had to leave. Which means that while my mom (and dad) were sympathetic that I was sick there was no coddling cause I had stuff to do before leaving. I did however get a nice big bowl of my mom’s homemade turkey soup, best soup ever! It was delish! Also, I didn’t lose weight this year. *gasp* In fact, I think I gained weight. Who am I kidding, of course I gained weight there is no “I think” about it!

this would be me if I was a cat

this would be me if I was a cat

I exercised two of my days there but I ate ridiculous amounts of food all but one of my days there sooooooo weight gain. Guess I can’t gloat about how I always lose weight at Christmas anymore…sigh…

I am not worried about it thought cause (1) I’m sick now which means I won’t have an appetite till I am better which translates in to lost weight (yay!) and (2) I was researching before I even left for Alberta a new workout schedule for once I got back to BC which means before I even gained the weight I had a plan to get in better shape. How awesome is that?! It’s not even some weird kooky trend type of thing but a solid work out plan, blatantly stolen from a legit fitness website. Crazy days!

So sure, I have a bit more padding on me (which fyi, did nothing to keep me warm in the -35C weather!) but I’m gonna get rid of it soon so, meh, who cares? πŸ™‚

i-will-finish-what-i-started

Yeah I have to start over again after Christmas but I didn’t quit, I just paused a little bit lol Tomorrow I will start back eating healthy and as soon as this cold starts to go away I’ll be at the gym so this is me restarting for perhaps the billionth time lol but at least I am restarting!

If you stumbled a bit over the holidays don’t fret, just get up tomorrow and restart. πŸ™‚ You’ll get to your goal eventually as long as you keep going. Think happy thoughts everyone!
