I Adulted

3 Feb

I was so proud on Saturday night. I worked until 9pm and before I left work I took a look at the menu for the next day. On Sunday I would be working the day shift, so eating lunch at work, and lunch on Sundays tends to be more brunch like – so pancakes or waffles or some such thing. Which is tasty but is soooooo not healthy and definitely not something to indulge in every-freakin-Sunday.

Lo and behold Sunday’s lunch was eggs benedict with Canadian back bacon and some veggies grilled and covered in cheese, sigh.

So here is where the adulting came in…

I got home from work around 9:45pm and promptly started cooking. The cat thought I was nuts lol

I popped a honey garlic glazed chicken breast in the oven and while that did its thing the rice cooked in the rice cooker, the sweet potato got sliced and popped in the microwave so I could steam it and while waiting for things to cook I chopped up a bunch of veggies because when I am not super lazy I like to ingredient prep.

In the end I ended up with a freakishly healthy lunch for Sunday!

It got packed in to one of my Disney’s Frozen tupperware, cause hey, I can’t be tooooo grown-up lol and I took some salsa with me to put on top of the rice. When I was putting my lunch on a plate at work and heating it up the chef said I should take some of the veggies they had made cause they were super delish and who am I to turn up more veggies? So here is what I ended up eating…

lunch

Before you think I am a weirdo for having my chicken cut up I did that to make sure it was heated all the way through. 😛

Now don’t fret that I am acting all grown-up all the time, I assure you, I am not. I think I manage it about once a month if lucky? lol

To prove that, my dinner on Monday was this…

2016-02-01 16.59.11

Yup, that’s right, it was marble cake. Sadly, it was not good…and yet…I ate it…*rolls eyes* I didn’t even get the expected sugar rush that would have gotten me through the next couple hours, nope, I ate it and promptly had a nap…cementing my place as the world’s oldest toddler teehee

Stir Fry Sunday: Turkey Bacon Makes Everything Better

3 Feb

Once again I didn’t make my Sunday stir fry on Sunday, but hey, I’m only one day late…again…oops! 😛

Sunday normally has me working the morning shift, 7am – 3pm but I swapped yesterday and worked 1pm – 9pm so that the girl who normally works the evening shift could be home in time for the superbowl. I prefer evenings so the swap worked well for me. 🙂 I had vaguely intended to make the stir fry for lunch on Sunday, or at least make it then take it to work to have for dinner while on my shift but this is me and that didn’t happen – too much pre-planning! lol

So instead I made my weekly stir fry Monday after work. 🙂

It is only week 3 and I was at a bit of a loss for what I wanted to put in it…a tad concerning since I am hoping to make a different stir fry every week but oh well, I’m sure I’ll keep managing to come up with variations for a little while longer *crosses fingers*

I opted for an all veg stir fry, protein schmotein right? 😉 I had the veggies in the pan and the water coming to a boil for the vermicelli noodles when I had inspiration, turkey bacon! Yup that’s right, I cooked two slices of turkey bacon, then cut it in to bite sized pieces and put that on top of the stir fry once it was in the bowl and ya know what? It was really good!

Turkey Bacon and Veg stir fry on vermicelli noodles

Turkey Bacon and Veg stir fry on vermicelli noodles

The noodles turned out better this time, yay! I let them stay in the boiling water longer and that seemed to help. Also, when I added them to the pan I pushed all the veggies to the side and didn’t try to mix the two, seemed to work. I used the sweet and sour sauce again, it is one of my faves, also, I’m not going to buy a new sauce every week or I’ll end up with a fridge full of condiments which is kinda crazy…well, crazy if it is all the same type of condiment lol  I tried not to use too much sauce and ended up not using enough, sigh. I put some in with the veggies when I was cooking them and then poured some on the noodles when I put them in the pan but I didn’t taste it all that much. I’ll have to use more next time…or use a protein that actually absorbs the sauce flavour *rolls eyes*

All in all I am happy with the results, it was a little plain tasting but that is easily fixable by using the right amount of sauce lol I was pleasantly surprised by how well the bacon topped the vegg and noodles, I guess that saying about bacon making everything better might be right, as long as it is turkey bacon! 😛

My Apple Pear is MIA!

21 Mar

I like staying inside until the sun has set – sadly, monday through friday that is not possible, sigh, but on the weekends, well, that’s my time!

Yesterday (sunday) I went for a hike around 1pm or so and felt like I was being blinded the entire time…I forgot my sunglasses in my suv, oops! lol. So, until the sun went down I spent the rest of my day inside, protected from the elements. 😛 This means I went grocery shopping around 8:30pm-ish, which really, is an excellent time because not many people grocery shop that late on a sunday. 🙂

The point of all this! I decided to try a new fruit, not new to the world or anything, but new to me – I picked up an Apple Pear. It’s white like a, well, like a pear (go figure lol) but apple shaped. I have absolutely no idea what this thing is gonna taste like but hey, can’t kill me to try something new right? I put it in my cart, put it on the moving part of the till…and that was the last time I saw it! It just…disappeared!

I didn’t realize it was MIA until hours and hours later when I was chilling at home and all of a sudden I realized I hadn’t unpacked it; it’s weird what our brains remember and when. shrug. I went rooting through the fridge, dug out the reusable grocery bags I use – I looked everywhere I could think of in the hopes I accidentally put it somewhere weird. lol. Then I went out and checked the trunk, under the suv, on the grass and path from my suv to my door…I must of looked so weird. Ah well. So then I dug out the receipt and checked to see if I paid for the missing fruit.

I did not. Weird.

I am thinking the cashier thought the apple pear belonged to the guy behind me and that’s why it didn’t get put through with my stuff, sigh. Annoying! I was actually pretty pissed cause I was looking forward to having the apple pear as part of my breakfast today but sadly it was not to be. Ah well, I stopped at the grocery store after work today and bought the last two the store had so I will get one for brekkie tomorrow along with some grapes! 🙂

My food choices today were (I think) fairly great. 🙂 I ate lots of fruit and vegg and even had some protein in there, woohoo. 🙂

Here is what I ate:

1 apple = 1 point

1 cup grapes = 1 point

1 banana = 1 point

1 can Fiesta Veg and Black Bean Soup = 4 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

1 orange = 1 point

1 Minute Rice Brown Rice Cup = 4 points

stir fried mixed veggies = 0 points

     – 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk, 1 mushroom, handful of water chestnuts, handful of bean sprouts, garlic

15 grams light shredded cheese = 1 point

1/2 serving chicken = 1 point

4 cashews (split) = 1 point

1 piece toast = 1 point

1/2 tbls Nutella = 1 point

1 pckg Quaker Granola Crunch’ers = 2 points

Total Points Eaten = 20 😀

Perfect! 😀

Let’s count shall we? That is 7-8 servings of fruit/veggie, 2 servings of protein (the beans in the soup and the chicken with dinner), 3 servings of grain (the toast and the rice) and 1-2 servings of dairy (the cheese and the nutella) wOOt! wOOt! 😀

The points for the chicken are a tad weird, lemme explain. 🙂 I used Maple Leaf already cooked and sliced chicken breast; half the package is 2 points and I used a tiny bit over a quarter of the package – I did measure how much I used but didn’t write it down and can’t remember the exact weight. Oops! But that’s why my chicken was only 1 point.

I made a stir fry for dinner, a first for me. I was worried I’d screw it up but it turned out suprisingly yummy. A bonus to the whole stir fry dinner thing is I got a whack load of veggies, a way filling meal and it was low in points. 🙂

So far this week is already going better then last week – work wise and food wise. 🙂 Let’s hope I can continue to eat properly for the rest of the week…oh, and I guess I am also hoping the weather clears up so I can go hiking after work (it rained all day today)…I can’t believe I am hoping for good hiking weather…*rolls eyes*…will wonders never cease? lol 😛

More Fruit and Water!

9 Mar

Lately I have not been drinking as much water (or any fluids really) as I should be and I also cut down on my fruit intake. There are many reasons for both of these situations, none of the reasons are really good ones but, shrug, they are what I have. lol.

Winter hit which means fresh fruit prices shot up and my weight went down which means so did my daily allotment of points so I stopped eating fruit snacks at work cause I wanted to make sure I had enough points left at the end of the day for a good dinner. So, money and less points are what got me in to this predicament…well, for the fruit anyways. lol.

The water? Yeah, I don’t know what happened there…actually, maybe I do. It’s been cold, I don’t want to drink water when it is cold. And yes, I know that it’s not just 8 glasses of water we are supposed to drink a day but 8 glasses of fluid but even with my increased tea drinking that didn’t make up for the water I had stopped drinking. sigh. When the weather was nice and it was still daylight when I got home after work I would go hiking on a trail near my place, I was averaging that hike 3 times a week before winter hit so that’s not bad. On those days I sooooo got all my fluids for the day cause when I got home from the hike I’d drink a huge bottle of water and then shower and then drink another huge bottle of water throughout the evening. Combine that with all the water I was drinking at work during the day and, shrug, I was good to go. 🙂

But yeah, winter, no exercise, expensive fruit, fewer points – all of this combined to where all of a sudden I realized I had drastically decreased my fluid intake and fruit intake – Not good! In fact…BAD!

Yesterday I started pushing the fluid intake and today I started increasing my fruit…so far, I like it. 🙂

I used to eat a piece of fruit mid morning and mid afternoon at work but I stopped cause I didn’t want to use the points up during the day – I became worried I’d not have enough points for dinner so I cut the fruit. Well, I generally have enough points for dinner plus a good chunk left over for a snack so I figure, cut down on the evening snack and replace it with a mid afternoon snack. I still don’t eat fruit mid morning but that’s cause I am not hungry for it so I have started eating that piece of fruit with my lunch. shrug. It worked today so hopefully it’ll keep working…

Today I ate:

1 package instant Quaker oatmeal = 3 points

1 cup carrot soup = 2 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

1 orange = 1 point

1 pear = 1 point

1 bagel = 3 points

2 pieces deli turkey = 0 points

15 grams shredded cheese = 1 point

baby spinach, mustard = 0 points

1 mini red velvet cupcake = 2 points

57 grams Just Bunches cereal = 4 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

2 digestive cookies = 2 points

Total Points Eaten = 20 😀

I feel like this is the first day in ages where I have eaten all my points and there wasn’t any guessing involved – everything I ate today is countable and I got 2 servings of fruit and 1 serving of veggies, not perfect but better then yesterday! lol

A Perfect 22

8 Aug

Today is my second day at 22 points; weekends are either really hard to not mess up my points on or really easy…never just run of the mill. shrug. I think it’s cause I sleep in and just eat whenever I want not when it fits into my work schedule. When left to my own devices I go to extremes, I either eat everything in sight or nothing at all. Since following weight watchers I can’t do that; I have to eat the same amount on the weekends as I do on the weekdays…I still find it hard but losing weight is worth the effort. 🙂 I noticed today that on weekends I am still for the most part eating my food in big sessions instead of small meals throughout the day like all the experts say I am s’posed to do but hey, least I am still eating my points. lol.

I had these really amazing grilled veggies with my dinner today; I got them from M&m’s Meat Shop – the same place I got those salmon steaks from. I wanted to get them earlier in the summer when they first came out but when I noticed them it was right before I was going on vacation so there didn’t seem to be any point in getting them then. Turns out it was a good thing I didn’t get them then cause when I went in to the store yesterday they were on sale cause it’s now end of summer and they are getting new things to replace the grilled veggies. Works for me! There are a mixture of veggies in the package; you just put some on a baking tray, drizzle them with a bit of vegetable oil and stick them in a pre-heated oven for 18 mins…yum! I burned them a little but they were still good. 🙂 I like how they are frozen so I don’t have to rush eating them; I had some today and I am sure I will eat more of them this coming week but if I decide I don’t want to eat any of them for a while it doesn’t matter cause they’ll just sit in my freezer waiting for me. Yah for frozen food! lol

There are two conflicting arguments about veggies; some people say don’t buy frozen cause they lose nutritional value in the freezing process, others say eating frozen is better because they are flash frozen and the nutritional value is retained while the “fresh” veggies we buy at the grocery store have been travelling for who knows how long and everyday they are away from the day they were picked they lose nutrients. I am not a food scientist, I try to research what I hear and wonder about so I can know the facts about what I am doing and make lifestyle changes accordingly but this one I just don’t know. shrug. I keep coming up with conflicting information so I am going to leave the figuring out of this problem to the scientists and continue to eat a combination of fresh and frozen veggies. Seems like a safe bet to me! 🙂

Today I ate:

1/2 cup Heinz Maple Baked Beans = 2 points

1 fried egg = 2 points

2 pcs toast = 2 points

2 tsp margarine = 2 points

1 tblsp Kraft Raspberry Jam = 1 point

1 piece frozen battered fish = 4 points

grilled veggies = 0 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks Cheddar Broccoli rice = 3 points

1 medium slush = 2 points

1 cup 1% milk = 2 points

1 pckg Weight Watchers Cheese Twists = 2 points

Total points used is 22. 😀

the weight watchers version of Thinsation Cheetos

The weight watchers cheese twists are the ww version of Thinsations Cheetos (which are really good!)…these are pretty good, they have a slightly off flavour that I can’t pin down but that’s alright. I guess weight watchers figured if people were gonna go crazy over all the Thinsation snacks out there they might as well get there own version and rake in more money that way. lol. Can’t really blame them. I think the next time I will probably buy the Thinsation Cheetos over the weight watcher cheese twists because (1) the cheetos have a slightly better flavour and (2) the thinsations are cheaper. Nothing against weight watchers food, shrug, but I have to look out for my bank account balance here. lol.

It will be interesting to see how I do with my 22 points when it’s a work day; this weekend was easy. The weather was rainy and blah so I stayed in for most of the 2 days just reading and watching movies, relaxing. Aaaah, so nice! Because I was so inactive and slept so much tho my appetite was less then what it is on a more active day, not like at work I am crazy active but I am awake for longer on work days and just from normal daily activities am more active. I have gotten ready some raw veggies for me to have as a snack that way if I want to eat more then what my 22 points will let me I can eat those and not use any points. Hopefully this plan works! 🙂

Eating a cookie is a chore?? That’s so wrong!

30 Jun

I am having trouble using all my Weight Watchers points, who’d of thunk it? lol.

Before I was on Weight Watchers I would eat dinner (most days anyways) and after my huge dinner I would have a cup of tea and about a half hour or so after that a dessert of some kind. Not anything extravagant just some cookies or a package of Pocky maybe…whatever I happened to have around that was a little sweet. It was a little treat I really enjoyed. Well, the past couple days I have dinner, I have my tea, and then I am done…I don’t want anything else. No desire for a little sweet something, no hunger pangs making me want anything…nuthin! I still eat something – I mean, I kinda hafta since I have points left but I don’t really want anything. shrug. Weird. 😛

Last night I got busy with other things and didn’t remember till right before I was going to bed I still had 5 points left…5 Points!! That’s a lot, I can justify not eating 1 point…maybe 2 but not 5! I had to actually force myself to eat my cookies and drink my milk, ugh. If I could have gotten away with eating something a lot lighter I would have but everything lighter (ex. fruit) is too low in points and I’d have to eat way more of it to use up those stupid 5 points. Lame.

I can’t believe I actually had to force myself to eat a cookie…who does that?! Cookies are enjoyable, yummy, full of flavour and just bad enough for you that you automatically want more…and I had to practically choke them down. So so so wrong. *shakes head*

Today I ate a higher in points lunch cause I was going out after work and wasn’t sure when I would get to eat dinner; also, being all proactive an all I ate a yogurt right before I left work and cut up an apple to take with me so if I needed something to snack on while out I had food all ready for eating and wouldn’t be tempted to buy something at the food court. This whole planning ahead thing kinda rocks, not saying I will do it all the time but this time it paid off! The yogurt held me over till I was on my way home and I ate the apple while driving home thereby not stopping at any of the numerous fast food places I passed. Also, when I got home I didn’t dive in to the kitchen and make whatever the first thing I saw was and snack away on things the whole time the food was cooking. I was controlled enough to calculate my remaining points for the day and figure out the best dinner to have that would use my points. Creepy! 😛

I also found the best 1 point weight watchers snacks; they are from Safeway and come in bags with I am not sure how many pieces in it. They are little 1 point, 1 or 2 bite (depending on the size of your mouth, lol) chocolates etc. Basically really miniature chocolate bars. Todays was Coconut covered in Milk Chocolate, like a Bounty Bar…I fully savoured it, lol, made it last 4 whole bites and it was goooood! You can find a site about them at www.russellstover.com , I haven’t really checked out the site all that much but a quick glance shows they have way more variety then I had realized. I will have to keep an eye out for more.

one point per piece

So here is what I ate today:

3/4 cup Almond Special K = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

3/4 of a cup Brown Sugar and Bacon Baked Beans = 4.5 points

1 piece of toast = 2 points

1 cup cherries = 1 point

1 Activia Yogurt = 2 points

1 apple = 1 point

1/2 serving whole wheat pasta = 2.5 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

1/4 cup alfredo sauce = 2 points

2 triangles Laughing Cow Light Cheese = 1 point

1 peach = 1 point

1 Whitman’s Weight Watchers Chocolate = 1 point

Used all 23 points and ate them early enough I don’t feel full and icky before going to bed. Yah! 🙂 Oh, and in keeping with the proactive thing I made a second batch of dinner and have it in the fridge ready for tomorrows lunch. Awesome! Hmmm, it’s a little sad I get so excited about that…lol

I have also decided to not list my drinks in my food list unless they cost me points; there isn’t really a point to listing my tea and water when they don’t count for anything. Doesn’t mean I am not drinking though!
