First Time This Year

3 Apr

Get your mind out of the gutter – not thaaaaat kind of “first time”! lol

I’m talking about my first hike of the year…or I guess I could word that as first hike of the season…either is accurate, shrug.

A friend and I went for a walk last Friday before I went to work and decided we enjoyed it so much that we made plans to go for a walk / hike Sunday afternoon when I was off work. I oh so responsibly packed a bag the night before (cause nooooo way would I remember at 5am to pack a bag with hiking appropriate clothes in it) and once I was at work texted her asking if she wanted to come walk the trails near my work or go to the trails near her or if we should go somewhere completely different. I had to be sneaky because we have an unfortunate habit of saying we are going to go for a walk or a hike or to a fitness class or whatever and instead we either (1) cancel completely or (2) go for tea and sit and gab.

Yup, we are enablers of each others laziness.

So I figured if I worded the text to her today as if I assumed we were still going it’d be harder for her to bail.

Turns out I was wrong. lol She wrote back saying she was way behind for the stuff she had to do today because of things happening in her townhouse complex (loooong complicated story that and not really essential to my story, which is of course the important one 😉 ) and basically she couldn’t make it.

I, in a non-bitchy way, said no worries but since I’d brought my change of clothes with me I was still gonna go. At this point I still had some energy left so I meant it when I said it.

Well, by the end of my work day I was tired and had almost completely decided to not go for a walk or a hike and instead go home. Before I could though my friend calls, turns out by my saying I was still going to go it got her thinking that she really should find time in her day to do something active and good for her so she once again decided to join me.

I couldn’t very well tell her that I’d decided to bail *rolls eyes*…and that is how we ended up here…

The shots of the water were all taken from the suspension bridge. If it wasn’t for other people being there I could easily stand on that bridge for hours watching and listening to the water.

As for the hollow trunk picture, I thought it’d be fun but in actually I look like I have no neck lol silly shadows. 😛 And before anyone who is thinking about my eyes freaks out (which really that would only be my mom) I only took my sunglasses off for the picture, otherwise they are always on when I am outside – I am following all my eye care rules, honest! 🙂

A New Year

2 Jan

We are a little over 24 hours in to 2016…how are things going for you so far? Is it everything you were hoping it would be? 😉

I know it is hard to tell this early in to the New Year but maybe you have an inkling of how things might go…or at least a hope!

It is kind of funny,  I always think of the New Year as a chance to wipe the slate clean, start fresh, ya know? But this year I am still dealing with a bunch of stuff that happened at the tail end of 2015 and it doesn’t feel like a new year has started, that I’m at the beginning of a new chapter in the Book of Me. I feel like I am still cleaning up after 2015.

It kinda sucks…

Not the happiest New Years post is it? sigh

It isn’t that every thing is bad or anything, I’m just in a bit of a down spot I guess. It’ll get better, promise!

I wish I had been able to post the past couple of weeks, due to technical difficulties I wasn’t able to easily get online or write anything so I thought I’d do a catch up post Dec 31st but that didn’t happen…obviously lol

I went home for Christmas, got to hang with the family and friends, got to enjoy the snow and remind my weather wimpy body what true winter weather is like lol I had a great visit! Which is one of the reasons I wish I’d been able to post while away, it is always so much more fun to write about things the same day they happened!

I took a bunch of pictures, though not as many as normal, they are currently uploading to DropBox as I type…I don’t think they will be uploaded in time for this post, seems I took over 100 pics! Eek! But I’ll do a post another day showing you some of what I got up to. 🙂

Mostly my trip consisted of taking advantage of the measly 5% sales tax Alberta has (lucky bastards! lol) and hanging with people. In fact, a happy benefit to my being where there was only 5% sales tax aaaaaand great Christmas sales is that I am writing this post on a brand new oh so lovely laptop! wOOt! Which I’m hoping means I will no longer be having tech problems that keep me from posting. *crossing fingers*

The laptop came loaded with Windows 10, which is going to take me a bit of getting used to lol I’ve spent the last little bit installing Office and anti-virus and logging in to various websites so this laptop can remember my log-in deets for all the various sites I visit. I didn’t get the old laptop backed up and then have it all dumped on this one so I am starting fresh, which is oddly unsettling lol

2016 may not be starting off quite as I envisioned but I’m sure it will be great! Awesome things will happen…some sucky things will happen…but then other even more awesome things will happen to balance the scales and by the end of 2016 I’m sure I will have forgotten how I felt on the first day of this year. 🙂

Christmas Market Season

25 Nov

Woohoo! Christmas Market season is upon us, and I love it!

Last weekend I went to an indoor Christmas Market in Abbotsford with a friend and had a lovely time. I meant to take more pictures than I did but oh well, least I managed to take some! lol 😛

2015-11-21 15.11.292015-11-21 17.02.132015-11-21 17.04.272015-11-21 15.11.15

2015-11-21 17.03.11

Now obviously I bought a bunch of stuff, I mean c’mon, what else is a Christmas Market for? But I can’t say what I bought since all but one item is a present for people and those people read this blog. Can’t be giving away Christmas secrets now! lol You’ll just have to trust me that the booths held a lot of interesting items and there were plenty of great things to spend your hard earned dollars on. 🙂

The Christmas Markets I have been to in the past have always been outside, in the cold, in the dark, and while they are lots of fun and have plenty of atmosphere there is something to be said for wandering around indoors and not worrying about your freezing cold feet or drinking endless cups of apple cider all in an attempt to keep your hands warm lol I did kinda miss the cider though… 😉

This market was better than Costco when it came to food samples, which I was not expecting! I mean seriously, pretty much every booth that was selling food had food samples and oh man did my friend and I eat our fill! I didn’t eat dinner that evening because I was still stuffed when I got home lol I had some salmon, some chicken and rice with a homemade sauce on it, mango chocolate that tasted only of mango so I’d never have guessed it was chocolate, various flavours of balsamic vinegars (and of course the bread I dipped in them), lychee flavoured honey, as well as a cinnamon flavoured honey (the cinnamon one was better, imo), ummm…oh! There was this disgusting gluten free, sugar free, vegan pumpkin pie and a gluten free, sugar free, vegetarian “buttercream icing” (that had no butter, no milk/cream and no sugar). Both those were at a booth being run by a lady promoting her gluten free, sugar free, vegetarian cookbook. Sorry but I like sugar, and gluten, and animal products. Besides, instead of sugar she was using stevia and there was a weird, lingering, artificial taste, ick. And why in the world would she call her icing Buttercream Icing when it is not? It was a lime and coconut icing that was not even close to being similar to a buttercream icing…that sucker needs a new name lol

There was more food I am just blanking on it right now. Since I thought this market would be like the ones I have gone to before I had imagined myself wandering the booths and at some point buying a meal but nibbling my way through samples was way more fun, even though it became almost impossible to track in any way how many calories I ate, but oh well, guess what happens at a Christmas Market stays at a Christmas Market! teehee

I Should Be Drunk…

26 Oct

I had a craptastic day lol It was one of those days that starts off ok and you think “sure, it is early on a Monday but things are cool, I can roll with this” and then boom! The day fully hits ya and it is a doozy, ugh.

It wasn’t one big thing that happened that made it harsh, it was a bunch of little things and a never ending line of people wanting something. One of those days that for every 3 things you accomplish 10 more pop up and it just seems like you are a hamster on a wheel, moving fast but going nowhere.

It is not a fun feeling.

By the end of the day all I wanted to do was drink lol which is very unlike me! But yeah I just kept thinking this is a day that is meant to end with some form of cold, alcoholic drink.

And yes, before you judge, I know that isn’t a healthy way to deal with stress *rolls eyes*

I got waylaid from my plans to go home and drink alone by a friend who needed to run a fun errand and asked me if I wanted to come along. I said yes because I know she just sold her car and is still adjusting to taking transit everywhere and I thought I’d do her a favour and save her the multiple bus trips she would have to take.

On the way to pick her up I stopped to fill my suv’s gas tank and popped in to a Tim Horton’s and got us each a Pumpkin Spice Muffin – she was having a bad day also and I figured an awesome Timmy’s muffin could only make things better lol 😛

Our fun errand was hitting up a Toys R Us. Yes, two grown ass adults who do not have children were going shopping at Toys R Us. Oh, and not only did we linger and have a blast I hit every button on every noisy toy I could and basically made the store come alive with sound! There is a reason people don’t go to stores like that with me but jokes on my friend cause she didn’t know! Bwahahahaha! 😉

She had an actual mission for what she was looking for, I had a vague thought about checking out the dinosaur toys to see if there was something I thought my youngest nephew might want for Christmas. She found what she was looking for. I didn’t see any interesting dinosaurs but I did find this…

Its Toothless! Awwww!

Its Toothless! Awwww!

Its Toothless! From the movie How To Train Your Dragon (1 & 2). He is sooooooo cute! I’ve always had a fondness for this little cutie and when we were wandering the store I saw this little figurine, it was only $6 so I decided to treat myself and buy it. Sure it seems like a silly thing to treat myself with but it made me smile, every time I look at it it makes me grin and if making me happy isn’t a good reason to buy something then what is?

In the end we spent an hour and a half meandering through Toys R Us, which surprised us when we realized it, which wasn’t until we were at the till and we discovered there was practically nobody else in the store, only one till was open, and it was so quiet all the staff were congregating and chatting, lol. Oops? 😛

Such a better way to spend my evening! In the company of a good friend, pushing endless buttons so I could make alllllll the toys make noise, and bringing home an adorable Toothless. Much better than going home after work and having a drink, or two! 🙂

Baking! Baking! Baking!

30 Sep

The only problem with being someone who likes to bake and doesn’t get to do it often is that when an occasion comes up that gives you an excuse to bake you maaaay go a tad overboard and want to bake every single recent baking recipe you have been hoarding.

In the span of three days I baked:

  • one batch of chocolate fudge cheesecake brownies…think chocolate brownies with a top layer of cheesecake, Mmm!
  • a three layer cake with the middle hollowed out and filled with M&M’s
  • a pull apart cake using cream cheese and chocolate

My entire apartment smelled delicious for daaaaaays! 🙂

Why was I all of a sudden baking?

My dragon boat team was having our season wrap party, it was a pot-luck and the only food group I can consistently make is dessert so I said I would take a dessert. Thing is, how do you pick just one recipe? And why should you pick just one? I mean, there are a lot of people on the team, you can’t share one cake with over 20 people and it wouldn’t be fair to not take enough for everybody so the only logical decision is to make two different desserts. However, I had three recipes I really wanted to try…

It seemed like some sort of overkill to take three desserts but lucky for me a friend was coming over Thursday so I made the cheesecake brownies Thursday, we each ate one, then I took the rest of them to work the next day. Then the other two desserts were made over the span of Friday and Saturday and well, sadly, I now have no reason to bake anything so my apartment no longer smells yummy. sigh.

Although I’m thinking of making banana bread tomorrow and that smells good! 🙂

Three Yoghurts and a Soup…and Pie

13 Aug

Sorta fell off the wagon with my writing on here, sorry!

So since my last post I have eaten three more of the American yoghurts and one soup.

I’ll just write about these in the order I ate them, ok? 🙂

Harvest Peach

Harvest Peach

The first of the three is Harvest Peach, it is one of the Weight Watchers yoghurts so it was 2 points and does not contain aspartame…not that I actually care about that, I mean c’mon, I drink so much diet coke half my blood is probably aspartame lol 😉

Anyways…it was good, not oh-my-god-amazing or anything but good. It tasted like peaches, which is the point of the flavour so points to them for that lol

I think the reason I am not raving about it is because it was my night time snack waaaay back on Monday after I had some totally delicious banana cream pie for dinner.

Yes you read that right lol I’m trying to feel guilty or ashamed by the fact that I had pie for dinner but I don’t, shrug. A friend at work made me a personal sized banana cream pie when she found out it is my favourite type of pie, how awesome is that!

Home made banana cream pie

Home made banana cream pie

I don’t know if you can tell the size of the pie from that picture, the blue dish it is resting on is a dinner plate, the medium sized one that comes in a set, so it wasn’t a full size pie at all. It was pretty much perfect for one person. 🙂

I’m pretty sure anything I ate after the pie would have gotten a review of “ok” cause how do you beat banana cream pie? The answer is you don’t! lol

The next yoghurt was…

Boston Cream Pie

Boston Cream Pie

Boston Cream Pie! Because apparently I was on a pie kick lol Actually I pick them randomly from the fridge so I never know what flavour I am getting next.

Not gonna lie, I had high hopes for this one since Boston Cream Pie is my favourite doughnut. I’ve never actually had a slice of Boston Cream Pie so the only thing I had to compare the yoghurt to was the doughnut and well, no, just no. The yoghurt tasted so fake, it wasn’t at all like the doughnut, just spoonful after spoonful of artificial taste. It is like when you buy a cheap advent calendar at Christmas and the chocolate is the super cheap gross kind and it doesn’t even taste like chocolate even an itty bitty bit, it just tastes like chemicals. This yoghurt was like that. Yuch.

I guess the only way it can redeem itself an itsy bitsy bit is that it is one of the Weight Watcher yoghurts so it is only 2 points.

Things got better though, don’t despair!

Zesty Southwestern Style Vegetable Soup

Zesty Southwestern Style Vegetable Soup

I had a soup, Mmm! I love soup!

This is a Progresso Light Zesty Southwestern Style Vegetable soup and so far it has been the best of all of them. It lived up to the “zesty” without being overwhelmingly spicy and the vegetables were cut in to these nice big chunks. It was pretty much awesome and if this soup was sold where I live I would buy it frequently. It is Weight Watcher endorsed and is 2 points a serving, there are 2 servings in a can.

Close Up!

Close Up!

Look at those vegetable! There are kidney beans in there too. 🙂

Then I had the happiness of having a yoghurt that was delish and not overshadowed by a home made pie lol

Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Pie yoghurt, whoever made this was a smart smart person lol I’ve never had Key Lime Pie so I have no idea if this lives up to the actual thing but I really enjoyed it. I find the Yoplait yoghurts taste best when they are citrus flavours. This is a Weight Watchers yoghurt so it is 2 points and definitely worth it! I was sad when I was done this one because it is the only one of its kind in my fridge, sigh. Why oh why didn’t I buy two of them? sigh. Guess I know for next time! 😛

Canada Day!

2 Jul

Ok so depending on your time zone I am a day or longer late with this, oops! I’d apologize, which would be oh so Canadian of me 😉 but the reason I didn’t write anything on Canada Day was because I was busy celebrating Canada Day and if I hadn’t done something to celebrate Canada Day than I wouldn’t have anything to write about now, would I? That’s right, that is my logic and I’m sticking to it! teehee

logic

July 1st is Canada Day, in case you didn’t realize that from the above paragraph lol It is a day filled with hanging with friends and/or family, food, some form of alcohol, proudly displaying a flag or maple leaf or at least wearing red & white, and fireworks. Whether those fireworks are the official display put on by your city or some cheap ass stupid ones your neighbour’s kids set off in the park down the road well, whose to make that distinction?

Canada Day is the one day of the year we are unapologetically Canadian. We don’t refrain from wearing something with a maple leaf on it while in our own country because it is tacky, we don’t shy away from sharing videos on YouTube that say how great we are (though most of those videos say how polite we are lol), we jokingly embrace the stereotypes that are out there and eat something maple flavoured, or order the poutine, or wrap bacon around something and claim it is a legit meal. Our large cities have family friendly activities that include our military showing us simulators that they use for training, you can sit in a tank, or wear one of the backpacks the soldiers wear to see juuuuust how heavy it is (which fyi, I tried, they are ridiculously heavy!). It is the one day of the year we allow our Canadian pride to show…although we are still fairly understated about it, shrug, but ya know, that is just our way…sorry! 😉 lol

This year I went to a friend’s place for a bbq and just general hanging out. It was a fairly chilled event which was nice because it was a roasting hot day and none of us felt like doing anything super active.

There was video game playing, on an old system, so really it was retro video game playing lol We were playing on an N64 and I can’t remember the games names, they were games I had never played before and oh wow did I suck lol Luckily I was with nice people who didn’t make toooooo much fun of me 😛

After game playing there was the food! 🙂

For dinner we bbq’d kabobs…

Dinner!

Dinner!

We actually had a lot of kabobs, I just forgot to take a picture until they were almost all eaten, oops! They had chicken or pork, corn, red and green peppers, zucchini, red onion, pineapple and baby potatoes on them. Three of us made a little assembly line to put them all together, my section had the stabbing of the zucchini, peppers and corn which you’d think would be ok except I stabbed myself in the palm of my hand when putting the skewer through one of the corn pieces, sigh. It is a very me thing to do lol 😛

Then there was dessert! I brought it, thought I’d try a new recipe. My only goal was to have the finished product look somehow patriotic, so I wanted there to be red and white incorporated in to the dessert. Sounds stupid I know but meh, I was baking it so I get to pick things like that.

I made a brownie and strawberry trifle…

Chocolate Brownie and Strawberry Trifle

Chocolate Brownie and Strawberry Trifle

I’ll do a separate post with the recipe for the trifle, in case any of you are interested in giving it a try. 🙂

Because this is my Canada Day post will I put a video about Canada, and of course, being a Canadian pride video it is made by a beer company *rolls eyes* 😛 I like the video though, it shows how we are a multi-cultural country and how if we all work together good things happen, least that is my interpretation of it. 🙂

Aaaaaand here is another video about Canada, just because…it is a song instead of a commercial if that makes it anymore enticing for you…oh and there is an astronaut in it! Who doesn’t like astronauts! 😉

I know July 1st was yesterday, and a lot of my readers aren’t from Canada, but regardless, I hope you all had an awesome Canada Day (even if it was just a normal Wednesday for you lol)! 😀
