Chia Seeds

3 Jun

I’ve been wanting to make those overnight oatmeal recipes in a jar for ages now but all the recipes for them seem to contain Chia Seeds and I (1) had no idea what that was, (2) figured they were ridiculously priced as all weird fad foods seem to be and (3) wasn’t willing to shell out a lot of money for something that I might hate…I learned that lesson the hard way with Flax Seed, ugh.

But then I came across this…

2016-05-26 08.53.12

Yoghurt mixed with oats and chia seeds, oh and raspberry, can’t go wrong with raspberry! 🙂 It is over priced considering the size, almost $4 for that little thing, but I thought it was a safer way to try chia seeds than buying an entire bag and being stuck with them if I hated them. Turns out this little yoghurt thing is freakin delicious! It has yoghurt but isn’t the texture of yoghurt due to the chia seeds and oats, it is thicker, and while you don’t need to chew the oats or chia seeds you still feel like you actually ate something substantial vs slurped down some simple yoghurt. But still, too much money for me to want to buy them all the time, shrug.

Which of course means I am trying to make my own…and so far have failed miserably lol I can’t get quite the same consistency in mine but that isn’t to say my concoction is bad.

In the evening I combine:

  • 1/3 Cup almond milk
  • 1/4 Cup Greek Yoghurt
  • 1/4 Cup oats
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 2 tsp honey
  • dash of cinnamon
  • fresh or frozen fruit

All but the fruit gets put in to a jam jar or tupperware or whatever you have, mix it all up, then throw the fruit in. I toss in some frozen fruit because well, that is what I buy, lol, but you can use fresh also. Put the lid on and toss it in the fridge. By morning the chia seeds and oats are soft, it has thickened up a bit and magically turned in to something tasty that looks like this…

Granted, not the prettiest colour but whatever, get over it, it tastes good and is decently healthy lol 😛

When I started researching chia seeds the very first article I clicked on started out with blasting in large font about how chia seeds are a super food whiiiich instantly turned me off. Any food that gets paraded out as a “super food” and the next “it” thing to be eaten I automatically want nothing to do with. What can I say, I am a bit odd like that, but despite that annoying article I persevered and found some good reasons to try the little guys out.

(1)  A 1 ounce (28 grams or 2 tablespoons) serving of chia seeds contains

  • 11 grams of Fiber
  • 4 grams of Protein
  • 9 grams of Fat (5 of which are Omega 3’s)
  • 137 calories
  • there is also a decent percentage of your daily Calcium, Manganese, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Vitamin B3, Potassium, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B2

(2) Chia seeds are high in antioxidants

(3) Almost all the carbs in Chia seeds are from fibre making Chia seeds a low carb friend

(4) Chia seeds are high in quality protein

(5) Chia seeds are high in many nutrients that are important for bone health

(6) This is something I can’t find scientific research for but many sites claim Chia seeds will aid in weight loss because they expand when exposed to liquid so they help keep you fuller longer thereby decreasing your desire to snack or have your next meal early. I have noticed when I have my little concoction for brekkie at work I’m usually good until lunch time and skipping that mid morning snack comes in handy during a busy day at work. Weight loss though, I can’t say that has happened since I added them to my meal plan, shrug.

Because I liked the little yoghurt cup thing I bought a bag of Chia Seeds from Superstore, all the options they had are organic, which is annoying as I try to avoid foods labelled organic but oh well. One bag cost me $7 which was less than what I was expecting and I am eating them often enough I don’t feel the bag was a wasted food investment. I am considering upping the amount of chia seeds in my yoghurt concoction to get more of the health benefits since I currently only put in 2 teaspoons and 2 tablespoons seems to be the standard daily portion. I think that will mean upping the other ingredients so as to not have it be too thick, not sure though, so I’ll do some experimenting with that and see what happens.

If you are thinking of trying chia seeds, well, ultimately the decision is up to you but I’d say go for it, it can’t do any harm and just might do you some good. Just don’t be like the idiot who swallowed a spoonful of them then drank some water and ended up choking because the seeds expanded so quickly they blocked his esophagus. Seriously, what is with some people? *rolls eyes* And before you freak out about me being soooo callous, the guy is fine, docs saved him.

I Didn’t Sweat

18 Jun
notice she isn't actually sweating?

notice she isn’t actually sweating?

You may or may not have seen the above image, or one with the same message. They always make me feel a bit guilty, like I am not working hard enough if that day I didn’t have a sweaty messy I-almost-collapsed workout.

Yesterday I kind of worked out…I’m not really sure what I would classify it as, it was hanging out with KL, we went to the seawall and I biked while she roller skated. I biked for 13.25km (she skated for the same distance, obviously lol). Now, if anyone had told me they did that I’d be all “wow, great workout!” and KL for sure seemed to feel like she got a great workout, but me? I didn’t feel it. 😦

I am used to being all sweaty after a really good workout, but this time I wasn’t.

There is a belief (myth!!) that the more you sweat when exercising the better in shape you are…unless you are super obese then it’s a sign you are way out of shape. Now, this sucks for me cause my body has never liked to sweat, ever! I remember, years ago when I was in shape, I worked out all the time and the first day I had an actual bead of sweat drip down my arm I totally stopped what I was doing and just stared at it in amazement thinking “finally! proof I am pushing myself hard enough to make this workout count!”

As with many things I thought about fitness back then, I was wrong. sigh. *rolls eyes*

Our bodies sweat so we don’t overheat. The sweat glands, all 2-4 million of them, are either from the eccrine or aproccine gland and they produce moisture on our skin that then evaporates, cooling us down. If you watch sports you’ll probably have noticed that professional athletes sweat like crazy during their game/sport. Can’t really make the argument that they aren’t in shape right? So what does the amount you sweat when working out mean?

The more you sweat the better your body is at regulating your temperature and managing itself. If you are working out at a level that you think means you should be sweating but you aren’t sweating it isn’t that you aren’t working out hard enough, it is that your body is not so great at keeping itself at optimal temps.

For most people all this means is that you should keep working out, keep trying your best and keep hydrating! Your body is smart (and sometimes stupid lol), but in this case smart and will eventually figure out how to regulate your temp and keep you cool while you work out. You’ll become a sweaty mess one day, honest! Until then, enjoy the working out sans icky sweat, cause those days sure won’t last! 🙂

For me, I hadn’t been keeping myself hydrated for the past week or so, I had cut down quite a bit on the amount of fluids I was taking in (not on purpose, I just sometimes forget to drink, oops!) which means my body didn’t have a lot of fluids to release to help keep me cool. Also, I tend to be cool-cold almost all the time so it takes a while for my body to work itself up to feeling warm, then hot, then feel like it needs to cool itself down. Weird huh? Since we were outside and I was biking I was being constantly cooled down by the rush of air as I biked, pretty much insuring my body would not heat up.

I would have liked to of been sweaty at the end of the bike ride, it would have made me feel I had a good workout buuuuut I wasn’t which left me reflecting on the bike ride and trying to figure out how to push myself harder the next time. After having some time to reflect on it though I don’t think I should be quite so hard on myself, biking for 13.25km is better than doing nothing, right? Being out in the warm evening weather, enjoying the feel of the air on my skin, seeing all the different people that were also enjoying the seawall, getting to hang with KL, those are all good things. And sure, I could have gone to the gym, ran on the treadmill then done some weights and known exactly what I got out of the workout but switching things up is a good thing, keeps the body guessing, keeps the brain from getting bored lol 😛 And who knows, maybe if I was someone who wasn’t perpetually cold and I had been hydrated I would have been at least a bit sweaty after that bike ride…I was certainly tired! 😛

Popeye, gasp, lied to us??

10 Aug

liar liar pants on fire

Oh the betrayal! All those years of being told by Popeye that eating spinach gives you lots of iron and it turns out that’s a lie due to a misplaced decimal. *rolls eyes* The things that get passed through to the general population and then become “nutritional fact” and passed down to the next generations, oy!

I have never actually watched Popeye so maybe he didn’t tell kids to eat spinach cause there is iron in it but he did promote spinach as something to eat lots of – after all, that’s what everyone knows him for. Of course, I linked him with those fake cigarette candies you can (could?) buy that tasted kinda nasty but made you feel cool cause it looked like you had a smoke…hey! at the age of 6 you don’t realize you look stupid instead of cool and neither do your friends when they are all doing the same thing. lol. 😛

Anyways, more of my food research has discovered that spinach isn’t a good source of iron. Spinach has about the same iron content as any other green veggie. Something naughty about spinach is that it  contains oxalic acid which prevents more than 90% of the iron from being absorbed by the body!!! Ack! Spinach does have a good side tho so don’t think all that spinach eating has been in vain! lol. Spinach is a rich source of Vit A, Vit E and several antioxidants, it also has more than a half-day supply of beta-carotene in just a half cup serving. So see, it has ups and downs…like a lot of foods. 😛 In case you are wondering, the idea that spinach contained lots of iron started in 1870 with scientists whose figures weren’t challenged until 1937 when it was discovered spinach actually contained 1/10th of the claimed amount…like I said earlier, the mistake was made by a misplaced decimal point. lol.

Something else you should know about iron, when you do eat it also eat something high in Vit C (like peppers or citrus fruits) because the Vit C increases iron absorption. Most people don’t need to use supplements to get enough iron, we do fine on our own if we eat a healthy veggie rich diet but an iron supplement is recommended for pregnant women, women who are  child bearing age should eat foods high in heme iron (found in lean meats). Men need to be careful, too much iron for them can be dangerous – it has been linked to heart disease and cancer. Oh and my last fun fact about iron, men store more of it then women do in their bodies. Phew, ok, that was a lot of iron stuff, all done!

Today I ate:

2 Weetabix Biscuits = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 cup Knorr Red Pepper Tomato soup = 2 points

1/2 cup mashed yams = 1.5 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

2 triangles Light Laughing Cow cheese = 1 point

1 salmon in dill sauce steak = 3 points

1/4 cup whole wheat couscous = 3 points

corn = 0 points

1 Weight Watchers Smart Ones Double Fudge Cake = 4 points

So far I have eaten 19.5 points today, I will eat a snack in a bit and end up being under my points by half a point which I think is ok. 🙂 The couscous turned out well, I actually put the corn in with the couscous to make it less dry…I used to put marg in it and mix it together to make it less dry but combining it with some veggies is a healthier way to make it moist and it tastes good.

The Smart Ones however was a bit disappointing. sigh. It was stale. How that happened when it’s a frozen cake you thaw I dunno but stale it was. I followed all the instructions for thawing it out…maybe it was in my freezer too long? shrug, ah well, it was still chocolate and you can’t go wrong with that. 😀

Too. Much. Drinking.

5 Aug

I noticed over vacation I wasn’t taking in as much water (or any fluids really) as I should be. I spent all that time working up to drinking 5 or more glasses/cups of fluid a day and over vacation – poof! – back down to 2 if I am lucky.  So today, the first day back to work and my normal routine I drank a disturbingly large quantity of fluids. Let’s just say that it’s a good thing I sit so close to the washroom at work. lol. 😀

gotta pee! gotta pee! gotta pee!

At work I had 6 cups of tea (large cups) and 3 big glasses of water; once I got home I had a huge bottle of water and as a result spent a lotta time over the course of the day in the washroom. lol. By the time I was s’posed to be thinking of dinner my tummy was feeling all sloshy and I didn’t really want to eat. It wasn’t a good feeling – I felt overly acidic, ugh. I really wanted something that would soak up some of the fluid which I am sure sounds stupid but hey, it’s what I wanted so I made myself a sandwich. After my stomach had some time to realize there was something solid in it I started to feel better. 🙂

I learned last night that your daily 8 glasses of water don’t have to be water – when did that change? Now it’s 8 glasses of fluid; much easier to do! I got well over my 8 glasses of fluid since I drank 10 glasses/cups and all were over a one portion size. Yah for staying hydrated! 😀  You can also get your daily fluids from the liquid that is in foods; like your fruits and veggies. There are all kinds of ways to stay hydrated which means it should be easy to do but really, how many people actually get the amount of fluid in them they are supposed to on a daily basis?

Drinking so much fluids today brought up a concern I have never had before; can I drink too much? Will this damage my kidneys or some other organ?…cause that would suck! I remember hearing years ago about a contest to win a Wii, it was called Wee for Wii or something stupid like that. Basically, it was who can drink the most water without peeing? Whoever wins gets a free Wii. The reason I remember the contest is because a lady who was in the contest died from drinking too much water. Too much water?!?! Ack! So there is a line we need to stay on – don’t drink too much don’t drink too little.

After a little research I learned that drinking too much water is called hyponatremia and results in a dilution of sodium in the body. It is most commonly found in babies under 6 months old and athletes. I could list all the deets about water intoxication but that’d just be boring, if you want to read them just go to http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm Something I do want to point out is that it is not how much you drink but how quickly you drink it. A healthy adults kidneys can process 15 litres of water a day, so the normal person is highly unlikely to suffer from water intoxication as long as they drink the fluid over the course of the day and not all at once. So yah! No dying from drinking too much today! lol

Today I ate:

3/4 cup Red Berry Special K = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks broccoli and cheddar rice = 3 points

1 hot dog weiner = 3 points

1 granny smith apple = 1 point

2 triangles Light Laughing Cow cheese = 1 point

1 cup blueberries = 1 point

1 peanut butter sandwich

    – 2 pcs bread = 2 points

    – 1 tbsp peanut butter = 2 points

    – 1 tsp Eating Right Margarine = 1 point

1 serving of crisps = 4 points

Today I used 23 points exactly! 😀 Day 2 of hitting my points, wOOt! I should have had veggies in there at some point, normally I would have had some at dinner but since my tummy wasn’t up to that I ended up having a veg free day. I had a decent amount of fruit though…not quite as much as the food guide says I should have but hey, I can only do so much a day and I got my fluid in so let’s focus on that victory, k?

A Subway Kind of Day…

14 Jul

I went out after work, saw the movie The Girl Who Played With Fire – wow! and yah to having a social life! I am still not all that adept at working weight watchers in to social activities; I feel like there are very few places I can safely eat. Safely, what a weird word to use with food but that’s how I think of food now…safe and un-safe. Everyday I have to pass the un-safe places and hope my willpower doesn’t crumble; so far it’s held up! 🙂

But going out is such a dilemna now, do I eat beforehand and just watch my friends eat, do I indulge a little and say ‘oh well, used some flex points’ or what? I have tried eating beforehand and just hanging with my friends while they eat – wouldn’t recommend it by the way, it is way not fun! I haven’t yet decided to say screw it and eat whatever…I hope I don’t do that! What I did today was a compromise I guess. I went to Subway…again. groan. Not that I have anything against Subway but they were never my first choice for somewhere to go when I wanted to buy food. Now, they are my only choice, how sad. I thought I would go to Quizno’s, they are yummy, and I figured a sub place so healthy too right? Wrong! Check out their nutritional info online, horrible! Even the small veggie sub is bad, ugh.

I double checked the subway nutritional info and found out I miscalculated last time, the 6″ 9 grain wheat turkey sub is 5 points, not 6 which means I had room to put some cheese on it. 😀 It was good, a cheeseburger it is not but I can eat it and not feel guilty and more importantly not use my flex points.

So here I am at almost 11 at night cooking baked beans so I can wait for them to cool, portion them out and take some to work tomorrow for lunch. Why you ask? Because I have had salad 2 days in a row for lunch and baked beans are a safe food. One day soon my cupboards will be filled with only safe foods and then when I want to cheat I won’t even be able to because there will be nothing to cheat with; now that’ll be a post with rants in it! lol.

What did I eat today:

3/4 cup Red Berry Special K = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1point

1 banana = 2 points

1 Asian Supreme salad = 4 points

1 hard boiled egg = 2 points

1 Activia Blueberry yogurt = 2 points

1 6″ turkey sub on 9 grain wheat bread = 5 points

     – cheese, light mayo, mustard – 1 point

1 cup grapes = 1 point

1 cup blueberries = 1 point

1/2 7-11 slush = 1 point

That totals me at…22 points…crap, I didn’t eat them all? Hmm, I would have if I had finished my slush…let’s just say I finished them all, it can be our secret k? lol.

Oh, on top of always struggling with food while out I am also that person who at a moments notice can whip out of her bag fruit and water. At the movie theatre tonight, I ate my sub beforehand and then when K and I were sitting down I realized I was still peckish so I pulled out the grapes then decided more fruit couldn’t hurt and I knew I had the points for them so I pulled out my blueberries. They were both enjoyable but I think K thinks I am a little cooky…well, cookier then usual. lol. If I had known people did that (pulled out healthy food in movie theatres) in the past I would have definitly been the person making fun of those people, now I am that person. Oh how the tables have turned. What I found interesting was that I didn’t miss the popcorn – although I did think maybe next time I will pop some of my own and take it with me (ha! I am that person too!) but I was content with my fruit and didn’t feel all bloated or icky after the movie was over cause I just downed a huge pop and popcorn.

I don’t want to be that person who starts talking about how “like, I feel soooooo much better now that I eat all healthy an all and I think everyone should eat like me now, cause, like, you’ll feel better too! giggle” (that should be said in a valley girl kinda voice lol) but I do feel…not better, that’s not right, but not worse…I find my tummy is less upset, mostly cause I don’t over fill it anymore, lol, but hey, whatever works!

I was s’posed to research food groups today but didn’t cause of going out after work but I did learn something new food wise! It is better to eat your veggies with some protein (it doesn’t have to be meat) because your stomach will take longer to digest the whole kit n caboodle so you’ll stay fuller longer. An example, if you eat a salad, even if it is topped with lots of veggies you will digest it fast because of what the salad and veggies are made of but! if you put some tuna (aka cat food, ugh) on the salad, or some chicken, heck a hard boiled egg, when it’s all jumbled in your tummy the protein takes longer to digest and by default so will your salad thereby keeping you fuller longer. So yah to protein!

From what little I do know about food groups, I managed to get them all in my food plan today, *happy dance*. I had protein, grains, veggies, salad, carbs…and of course my endless water and tea. I think today was a pretty good day. 😀

Zzzzzzzzz

25 Jun

I don’t know about you but by Thursday I am usually ready to crash. Like most people I don’t get a proper nights sleep on weeknights; if I can get to sleep I usually end up in bed late and then I have to get up early for work – aaaah, the wonders of our society. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just go to bed when you want and get up when you want and show up at work at a good time for you without the very high probability you’ll be fired? But since this will never happen I guess I will continue to work within the confines of the rules.  🙂

Not all healthy eating plans talk about sleep, some programs just assume you know how much sleep to get or maybe they just don’t think of it as a topic that should be brought up. shrug. Who knows. All I know is there are conflicting rules about sleep, just like with water. As with the water rule stating 6 to 8 glasses a day there are many reports that say you need 6 to 8 hours of sleep…it’s like a conspiracy, lol, what’s with these numbers? Who says we all need 6 to 8 hours anyways? Who are the elusive “they” we always quote? I know that if left to my own devices I can sleep way longer then 8 hours and be quite happy about it. 🙂 Sleep is easily one of my favourite activities, I think it ties in to my laziness. lol.

So, if I can sleep for 10 hours every night and feel good but feel sleep deprived on 8 hours wouldn’t the 6 to 8 hour rule be wrong for me? I don’t know, and since I am not a sleep doctor I don’t have an answer and am not going to go do a bunch of research to find the answer. I do know that by thursday evenings I am ready to drop and always end up going to bed earlier then normal happily savouring the experience of being cozy in my bed.

I know that not getting enough sleep can hamper your weight loss attempts; our bodies produce the hormone Leptin while we sleep. Leptin is the hormone that tells us when are full – it signals the brain to release hormones that suppress hunger. If you don’t get enough sleep other ways you can get Liptin in to your body is by eating fatty fish like salmon, mackerel or sardines – it’s ironic isn’t it that to help keep your weight down you eat fatty fish? lol. Did you also know that sleeping too much can hamper your weight loss attempts? This I didn’t know, I only started hearing it recently. Apparently sleeping too much messes up your hormones and you retain weight, what’s with that? Sleep too little don’t lose weight, sleep too much don’t lose weight. It seems we are all walking a fine line between too little and too much and I doubt most people are able to find that middle. So maybe that 6 to 8 hours is a good guide, like the water, a strong recommendation that you have to tweak to suit your body and lifestyle. I am learning that no matter what plan you are on to try to lose weight it will have to be tweaked to suit your body and your needs. Not everyone needs 8 glasses of water and not everyone will need 8 hours of sleep – some will work better on more, some on less, it’s all a matter of trying things out till you find what makes your body work it’s best.

Now, on to a little confession, I totally forgot to eat the rest of my points last night! Ack! So, I cheated, kinda, but in the reverse way I thought I would. lol. Who’d of thought the first time I cheat in this plan it’s by not eating enough?? I meant to eat my remaining 6 points, I even knew what I was going to eat! Two Maple Leaf cookies and 1 cup of 1% milk, I was so going to enjoy it and what happened? It went out of my mind and by the time I remembered it was 10:30pm and I was so not wanting food at that point. Meh, not much I can do about it now. For those of you who don’t know, weight watcher points are not transferable, if you don’t eat all your points on wednesday you can’t roll them over to thursday and eat extra that day, it’s not like your airtime minutes for your cell. If you don’t use them they are lost to you forever! Ok, little too dramatic there. lol.

Today I made sure I used all my points, before I got on the comp I got my milk and my two cookies and had them ready and waiting. It was nice, who doesn’t like the last thing they eat for the day to be a little treat? Mmm Mmm Mmm. 🙂

I didn’t cheat today, used all my points and am not full but not hungry which is a novel experience that I am still getting used to. After dinner last night I realized that I wasn’t hungry but neither did I have that overly full slightly icky feeling I normally have after eating. My portions were way out of control! I didn’t realize how out of control until I started measuring everything, omg, no wonder I got so big! When did I start thinking an entire pot of pasta with a creamy sauce was a dinner portion?? *rolls eyes* No more! I had some hungry times during the day but that was mostly because I was so busy at work I didn’t get my mid morning snack so my stomach was cranky, lol, it seems to be getting used to a schedule and varying it makes it pout…can stomachs pout? Hmm, maybe it’s more of a ‘rebel’, yeah, the growling unhappy noises is more like a rebellion then a pout, pouting is quieter. So, except for the minor rebellion where it started yelling at me the day went well. I was pretty hungry when I got home cause I worked OT so my dinner was late too…I’m sure my stomach thinks I am soooo mean, lol, what I ate was a weird mix of things cause I was getting rid of left overs. Little bit of this, little bit of that, whatever I could scrounge up to make a meal.

You may have noticed I eat things that most people probably wouldn’t think of eating when trying to lose weight, for instance the pasta. Well, weight watchers is supposed to let you eat anything you want as long as you fit it into your points. I could try to make it sound like I am really testing that out by eating non diet type foods but in reality I refuse to not eat the food I already have in the house from before I decided to do weight watchers. I am not getting rid of it or letting it just sit there taking up space and eventually going past it’s expiry date all to appease my desire to get thin and hot. shrug. So for now, I am eating weird combos of things and as my cupboards get cleared out I will bring in to the house healthier options…course, I will always have Kraft Dinner in the house, I would never give that up completely, just couldn’t do it. What I did do though was buy the microwavable kind cause then I just make one bowlful at a time instead of an entire box cause you know if I make that whole box I am gonna have a binge and eat most of it in one sitting…I know, disgusting, but I am sure you have some weird food thing that to others sounds disgusting. 😛 It’s weird though that everytime I did that I felt horrible afterwards, in every way, I felt bad physically – my stomach felt disgusting and hurt, I felt bad mentally – I’d totally beat myself up about it, I’d feel bad energy wise – my poor body would be putting so much work in to digesting I could do pretty much nothing but sit there…and yet, despite all these negative feelings I would have after binging on KD I still did it!! I’d convince myself that “this time I will just eat one bowl” and it never happened, even as I said that to myself I knew I was gonna eat way more. It’s like some weird self-punishment or something. shrug. Ah well, can’t do that now cause no way would all those points fit in to my day! lol.

My food today was:

3/4 cups Honey Nut Cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

tea = o points

1 banana = 2 points

1 salad = 0 points

1 hard boiled egg = 2 points

1 tbsp salad dressing = 1 point

2 triangles of cheese = 1 point

1 cup grapes = 1 point

1 nectarine = 1 point

1/4 cup Maple flavoured baked beans = 1

1/4  cup+ 1/8 cup brocolli cheese pasta = 3

2 pieces of toast = 3 points

2 tsps margarine = 2 points

2 Maple cookies = 4 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

There are some notes to be made about some of the foods from today. The salad was from a place called The Salad Loop, here is the website for them http://www.saladloop.com They are this great place where you go around buffet style and pick whatever you want in your salad and the cost is based on weight. For a little over $6 I got lots of lettuce (some leaves didn’t look totally fresh but it didn’t kill me so whatev), some green and red peppers, corn, a hard boiled egg, mushrooms, a cherry tomato, cabbage and a small amount of salad dressing. Sure, I could have spent the same amount of money and gotten a burger fries and a drink but this is the sacrifice that must now be made, the same if not more money for food that doesn’t look nearly as yummy or filling. It wasn’t a bad tasting salad though, I wish I hadn’t missed the peas, those would have been nice to put on, and I didn’t notice the meat selections till too late either but now that I know how to better navigate the tables I am sure I will do better next time I go.

The triangles of cheese, yum! Those are The Laughing Cow brand of cheese, light of course.

yummy and so low in points!

I already had some just cause I love them and when I checked the points value I found out I can eat 2 wedges for only 1 point! Amazing! I used to only ever eat one wedge at a time because I thought it tasted so good it must be uber bad for me but now I know better. I have never had the regular, I just automatically bought the light and I think it rocks, it is also cheaper then the regular, I don’t know why but everytime I buy it it costs less, and not like it’s on sale, thats just the regular pricing. shrug. It’s fine with me! I would totally recommend them. 🙂 They helped make my salad not feel so insubstantial. I didn’t put it on the salad, they don’t cut very easily, but ate it on the side. I have also (at home) tried to cut it in to little pieces, I usually get blobs but then I put the blobs in to a hot bowl of soup, usually a spicy kind of soup, it’s a good combo cause it doesn’t really melt, it just becomes softer and it helps make the spicy not so spicy.

Tomorrow is Fiesta Friday at work, tacos here I come!!…with a nice big salad on the side…;)
