A Delayed Dinner

29 Apr

You know when you wait too long to eat and you are no longer hungry but you know you have to eat? Yeah, sigh, that was me this evening.

I went for a nice long walk (4.94 miles or 7.95 km) and when I got home I decided instead of showering, doing my hair, picking out a semi-decent outfit and running out to take care of a quick errand I’d just go in my workout clothes, that way I could keep my baseball cap on and since it had been raining while I’d been outside I just looked damp, not sweaty. Well, after the errand I got back to my place, showered, got in to comfy clothes, threw a load of clothes in the wash and realized I had missed my “hungry time” and was no longer wanting any food. I was super tired though, which I was attributing to the lack of food in my system. Crap. I hate eating when I don’t feel hungry, ugh.

I figured if I made something yummy it’d waken up my tummy so I popped some salmon in the oven and got to work building a salad to put the salmon on top of. I figure it’s almost May, break out the summer salads! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well yeah, my plan failed, lol, I get the meal ready and am staring at it like it is something disgusting instead of something that’ll taste good. Stupid stomach. Obviously I ate it, I knew my body needed the fuel but there was not as much enjoyment out of the meal as there should have been. Also, by the time I was done eating I felt so overly full, even though it was a normal sized salad, that I sat on my living room chair and actually groaned. Groaned! From too much food, that is so not my style lol ๐Ÿ˜›

I found some snap peas in the grocery store the other day that are a “complete kit”, it is already washed snap peas with a little package of peanut sauce and a second little package of sesame seeds. According to the instructions on the bag you can either eat the snap peas hot or cold, well, duh lol. I opted to heat up the snap peas and use some of them as topping on the salad, the rest I put in the fridge and will eat tomorrow.

I bought them cause they were on sale lol

Underneath the snap peas there was half an avocado (sliced), yellow pepper (diced), mixed raw veggies (corn, carrot and beans), pumpkin seeds, and mixed greens. Everything except the snap peas and avocado had been mixed with a small amount of light ranch dressing. The snap peas had the peanut sauce and sesame seeds on them and then for the final touch I put the salmon on top.

The final product!

The final product!

I know the salmon looks a little suspect but I promise it tasted good! It is from M&M Meat Shops, you can buy these great salmon steaks individually packaged and they come with a variety of sauces, this one was herb & garlic. The reason the salmon is cut in half is because when I took it out of the oven at the 17 minute mark, when the packaging said it would be done, it was so obviously not cooked that I cut it in half and put it back in the oven. I am always paranoid about not cooking my meat or seafood properly and giving myself food poisoning so I’d rather cut something in half so I can be sure it is cooked and risk my meal not looking pretty if it means I can feel safe putting the food in my mouth lol ๐Ÿ˜›

Despite the random combination of flavours (the fish being herb & garlic, the snap peas being coated in peanut sauce and the rest of the salad being tossed in a small amount of ranch dressing) everything gelled quite nicely and tasted good. ๐Ÿ™‚ …trust me, I wouldn’t have shown it to you if it didn’t lol

I was shocked at how filling it was, I mean c’mon, it is salad! *rolls eyes* but there ya have it, the salad that made me groan because I was so full after eating it. I didn’t even have room for dessert, and that’s just crazy talk! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I Forgot Wordless Wednesday!

13 Dec

Geez, it would have only been my second Wordless Wednesday and I forgot it! Does this mean I am destined to not do Wordless Wednesday in the future? Nah, I think it’s just cause it’s a new thing so I have to get used to it…I hope lol

Yesterday was Wednesday, duh, so I was supposed to take pictures of what I did and ate that day so I could show you instead of tell you…well, that was an epic fail if ever there was one, sigh. Too bad too since I had an awesome lunch! I was at the mall with a friend and we stopped at the food court for lunch. Now don’t go getting all “uh-oh, you screwed up didn’t you??” cause I didn’t! So there! ๐Ÿ˜›

I went to one of those grill places where you pick your veggies and protein from fresh raw selections then they grill it in front of you using a hot grill (shocking huh?) and a bit of water so it doesn’t stick, they then add the sauce of your choosing (I chose teriyaki) and was pleasantly surprised at the minimal amount of sauce the guy used, then it is served with some rice. Not so bad huh? I was heavy on the veggies but did put some crab, tofu and beef in there cause hey, ya gotta have some protein! I can’t remember all the veggies I chose, I love places like this though cause sure I can make a stir fry at home but somewhere like this has every veggie you could think of so you’ll have way more variety for your meal. I won’t remember them all but I know I had: carrots, zucchini, green beans, water chestnuts, baby corn, pineapple, bok choy, mushrooms, yellow and red peppers, celery…hmm, I know I am missing something, meh, it’ll come to me later probably. I also put some peanuts on there cause I am weak and I love peanuts in stir fry. ๐Ÿ˜€ All in all tasty and (I think) healthy.

The rest of the day was spent hanging with my friend at the mall, we were Christmas shopping, then coming back to the apartment to check on the poor cat. Oy! The day prior was his first visit to the vet, er, first visit since I have known him that is, I’m sure he was taken prior to our meeting. Well let me tell ya, this cat does not like going out of his comfort zone, he’s a bit of a worrier, hides a lot and has really sharp claws…not a good combo for stuffing him in a cat carrier and driving him to see a vet he’s never met. Oh, and he’s quite dramatic, if this cat could write he’d be writing his story and it’d be coming off as a Greek Tragedy! I of course would be the villain…despite my feeding him, changing his litter box, buying him treats and toys and a bed, moving when he wants the chair, letting him have half my bed even though he weighs ten pounds and I weigh, er, let’s just say I weigh considerably more then ten pounds ๐Ÿ˜‰ lol shrug, he’s adorable though, so oh well, I may bitch but I love him (which really means I am whipped and he knows it!) So yes, I had to check on him cause he was still recovering from the ordeal of the vet. He was extra clingy so I cancelled my evening plans and stayed home with him, I figure he’s my cat right? I took responsibility for him which means when he is not in top form and wants comfort I stay home and be there for him. He’s lucky he’s cute! lol

Not the most interesting day out there, I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t try to take pictures of the day cause what would you have seen? Mall Christmas decorations, my lunch, the cat, um…that’s about it, oh well, dinner, wait, did I have dinner last night? hmm…I had the stir fry, oh! I had a totally delish small milkshake, so because of the milkshake I didn’t do dinner…so yeah, not a lot of great pictures would have come from yesterday. I’ll attempt to make next Wednesday mildly more interesting so I have some decent images to upload.

For today I have to tell you about a yum dinner I made, a salmon steak with maple smoked apple something or other sauce with roasted sliced yam and roasted red and yellow peppers on the side. It was tasty and, the best part! *drumroll* I cooked it myself! Yeah, that’s right, you read that right, I cooked it! In my kitchen, with my stove, served on my dishes! Perhaps this is the start of getting back to normal eating? I’d like to think so. ๐Ÿ™‚ Tomorrow I can eat dinner at work but I’m going to attempt to remember to cook an egg for breakfast, here’s hoping I remember and don’t automatically go for a Clif Bar lol. ๐Ÿ˜›

Oh, a little sidenote, I was watching the movie Oceans 12 today (watched Oceans 11 last night) and seeing Brad Pitt eating something totally delish looking in every freakin scene has totally made me hungry! So not fair! Grr Brad Pitt, Grr! (I don’t really mean the “Grr” I still luv ya! lol)

A Grown Up Dinner

2 Jul

I had a crappy end to my work day yesterday and got home later then normal. Now, yes I am an emotional eater but no I am not – weird how you can be both isn’t it? Sometimes when I have a crappy day I eat, other times when I have a crappy day I don’t eat. I am not sure why sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t -I just know I do both. lol.

By the time I left work yesterday I was starving (cause of the time) and all I wanted to do was EAT!! I had to force myself to not dive in to the cupboards at home and make some KD or something even worse, oy! I had however realized something like this might happen and I would need something quick, easy and healthy to make so that’s what I pulled out. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had bought a Salmon Steak in Dill Sauce that can be put in the oven or the microwave (the microwave only takes 6 mins) and there you go, healthy chunk of protein. I paired it with some mashed sweet potatoes and mixed veggies.ย  I realized after I had it on the plate that I had made a dinner my mother would make – a real grown up dinner! I actually called to tell her cause it was such an amazing thing. lol.ย  This is not going to herald a permanent change in my eating habits mind you; I will for the most part continue to eat the way I have been but the dinner was yummy enough that I may just duplicate it sometime…not too soon though! lol

Yesterday I ate:

3/4 cup Special K Almond = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1/2 serving whole wheat pasta = 2.5 points

1/4 cup Knorr alfredo sauce = 2 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

2 triangles Laughing Cow Light Cheese = 1 point

1 cup cherries = 1 point

1 cup mashed yams = 3 points

1 Salmon Steak = 3 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

2 maple cookies = 4 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

This totals 22.5 points – I didn’t realize until today that I forgot to add in to my daily points the 1 tsp of margarine I used in the mashed yams so really I used 23.5 which is a pisser cause I didn’t want to use any flex points but there you have it.

On a plus note it was Cake Day at work, once a month at work cakes are brought in to celebrate whoever had a bday that month. There was a Dairy Queen ice cream cake and a 4 layer strawberry shortcake; they both looked amazing! I checked the nutritional info for DQ ice cream cakes before going to the lunch room to see if I could eat a slice, or at least a portion of a slice. Well! Those cakes are so ridiculously bad for you! It’s just ice cream for heavens sake! If it is an 8″ round ice cream cake 1/8 of the cake is 12 points, if it’s a 10″ cake 1/10 of the cake is 15 points! Absolutely NOT!!! I still went to the lunch room for the socializing part of cake day but I didn’t eat any of the cake. The weird part is I didn’t really want any and I didn’t feel deprived that I wasn’t eating any, shrug, I was pleasantly full from lunch and at the end of my lunch had some fruit so I had some natural sugar in me – guess my body didn’t want the bad-for-me sugar that was in the cake. Crazeeeee!

Now, for today, Happy Canada Day btw…

I slept in ridiculously late, so late I won’t even put the time on here because it wasย that late and when I finally got up I was starved. I find whenever I miss a meal now I feel more starved then I used to; I think this means my stomach is now used to eating on a regular basis and when it misses a meal it notices more. It’s kinda annoying but oh well.

So my food today, I wanted something huge to eat when I got up but I totally went overboard. Ugh. I had some cereal and milk while I was boiling then pan frying some baby potatoes. Once the potatoes were getting close to ready I made some eggs and with that paired some cheese and toast…can you believe that!?!?! I realized afterwards it was some werid kind of binge, the likes of which I used to do but thought I had stopped. The only difference is I felt worse at the end instead of better like I used to.ย  It left me feeling gross and not wanting to do anything as a result. Then, when the day was mostly over and I was home again I realized I had to eat something else since I had a tonne of points left but my overeating before made me not want anything. sigh. I think I will have to force myself to eat properly on days off cause when I don’t it just messes me up.

My food today:

3/4 cup Red Berry Special Kย = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

5 baby potatoes = 1 point

2 pcs toast = 2 points

2 eggs scrambledย = 4 points

30 grams marble cheese = 3 points

1 pepperoni pizza pop = 6 points

1 cup 1% milk = 2 points

1 nectarine = 1 point

1 cup cherries = 1 point

This is exactly 23 points used. I did the same mistake as yesterday though, I forgot to add in the small things used when making the food. I had 2 tsp margarine on the toast so thats 2 points, and I didn’t add that in so when I was looking at how many points I had left to use I chose the pizza pop because of how high in points it was and figured I’d top that off with two pieces of fruit since I hadn’t had any yet today. If I hadn’t eaten the fruit I would have been even on my points for the day, as it is I am two over, I think though that it’s ok to be two over today because if I hadn’t had the fruit my food eaten would have had nothing fresh.

That means that so far this week I am, what, 3 points in to my flex points? Annoying but dealable.

Onย  a side note I totally wanted to try on my pants that are my test for it I have lost weight but made myself not do it cause that is a once a week only thing – I tend to get obsessive when trying to lose weight so I made a rule I can only weigh myself and try on those pants once a week (on saturdays), otherwise I’d be checking the numbers and trying those damn pants on multiple times a day and thats just demoralizing. lol
