Buh-Bye Salad Bowl *sniffle*

18 Oct

I have this rockin salad bowl, seriously, the best salad bowl a person will ever come accross. I inherited it from RA, she didn’t want to pack it up when she moved so I got to keep it.  🙂 Well, it has had a good life but tonight, sigh, it passed on. I am not even sure how it happened…just one of those things I guess, bigger sigh. I put my dinner in it and then noticed a crack, not just a little crack but it went right from the top edge of the bowl to the bottom and completely through the width of the dish, I could actually make the crack wider by how I manipulated the bowl. Sadness. I of course ate my dinner out of it, cause hello? my food was already in it but that will be the last time it gets used.  😦

For me, and most people (I think), presentation of food is a big part in the enjoyment of the food. I always enjoyed building my salad in this bowl and it was big enough to hold a freakin huge salad, lol. Guess I will just have to find another one…this one was made in Boonton NJ – didn’t even know that was a place, I will probably pick up the next generation of salad bowl at The Bay lol.

So enough about salad bowls! I took the Pumpkin Tarts to work today and they were quite the hit – they didn’t all get eaten but that’s cause I made a freakish huge quantity.  😛 I am sure they will get finished tomorrow, or at least they better cause I am not bringing them home! I don’t want the temptation near me cause dude, even I think they are good and I am uber critical of my baking.

My dinner tonight was waaaay too late for my tummy’s comfort. tsk tsk to me. I got home and put the oven on right away cause I decided to go the baked potato route for dinner, well the stupid thing took forever to bake through! It was getting so bad I cut it open so it’d cook faster…it didn’t seem to help much. sigh. Now, I know that potatoes can be baked in the microwave but for some reason potatoes are one of those foods that I don’t like cooking in the microwave, shrug. Normally I am all over doing things the fast way but when baking a potatoe I prefer the oven…although I might use the microwave from now on! Seriously, I was so hungry by the time it was done I was certain it woudn’t fill me up cause I had waited too long, and that is when it is topped with cheese and baked beans! I waited a while after finishing it before I went for a snack cause I ate way faster then I should have and my stomach hadn’t realized it had been fed a proper amount.  Oops!

I still ended up having a snack of bread topped with margarine and light peanut butter – I originally was going to try some of the pumpkin pudding from yesterday but I needed something way more filling, so bread and pb it was! Maybe I will try the pudding tomorrow…we shall see. 🙂

Today I ate:

29 grams Special K Vanilla Almond = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 small banana = 1 point

1 cup carrot soup = 2 points

1/2 Dempster’s Body Wise Bagel = 1 point

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 peach = 1 point

1 baked potatoe (12 oz) = 3 points

1/2 cup Heinz Baked Beans original flavour = 2 points

2 cheese slices = 2 points

1 piece bread = 1 point

1 tsp margarine = 1 point

1/2 tbls light peanut butter = 1 point

That puts me at a total of 21 points, I am going to have a 1 point candy after I finish writing this so that will put me at my daily 22. 🙂

The half a bagel I ate at lunch, I didn’t intentionally only eat half a bagel, it got burned beyond redemption in the toaster and I could only save half of it. Very sad…and smelly. lol. The half I got to eat was pretty good, it’s only a 2 point bagel which rocks and it’s a decent size – bigger then the weight watchers bagels. 🙂 I found them at Wal-Mart for way cheap which is a happy bonus. I didn’t want to eat a bagel everyday so I have stuck them in the freezer and if I think I am going to want one  the next day I take it out the night before and give it time to defrost. This means a bit of planning ahead, something I know a lot of people hate doing when it comes to their meals, but ah well, it’s one of the tools you end up using when trying to lose weight. shrug.

Three Days In One Post

17 Oct

So I don’t normally go two days without posting and it’s not even like I was doing stuff that was so overwhelmingly amazingly exciting that I just couldn’t stop to post, I have just been busy with no extra time to sit with my computer. It happens. 😛

Let’s see, Friday, I went over by 0.5 points so not too bad. I went out that evening with KL but I had time to go home after work and eat a nice big salad for dinner. Which is good cause otherwise I would have ended up eating sushi and going over – *scared face*. lol. I got to watch KL eat her sushi and man did it look gooooood but I managed to resist eating any of it – for which I will be eternally proud! 😛 We were going to go see the movie The Social Network but by the time we got in to the theatre the only seats left were the really crappy ones at the very front, uh, No! So we swapped out tickets and went to see…um, shoot, what is it called…google! lol. Oh right, it’s Life As We Know It. It’s not too bad. Way predictable but ok. There were funny laugh-out-loud parts which is good, and man, the main guy is Hot! Yum Yum Yum 😀 Hey, if you can’t oggle a hot guy in a movie then there is clearly something wrong in the world. lol.

So Saturday, slept in, duh, and was having a lazy start to the day knowing I was nannying in the evening. Now, I thought I was nannying at 6:30pm so at 4:30pm I go to double check the print out from the agency with the address etc and noticed that I had the time wrong, Crap! It was a 6.5 hour booking, not 6:30pm start time! I actually had to be there 5:30pm. Sure, an hour earlier might not seem that big a deal but the place is minimum a half hour away and my hair was still wet and no makeup on, double crap! I can’t remember the last time I got ready so quickly. lol. I had just enough time to get to the job which is good cause if you are late company policy is you work the first hour for free…ick. The place was sweeeeet and the people fairly rockin. It’s always nice when the parents are cool cause it usually means the kid isn’t a wack job either. hehe. So that job finished at midnight – and they actually came home on time, quite the rarity! I was 1 point under for the day which isn’t such a horrible thing. shrug.

Then today, Sunday! I am over my points but I am not certain by how much yet…lemme explain. I baked, sigh, I should really stop doing that! I am baking pumpkin tarts – basically pumpkin pie but put in to tarts instead so I can take them to work and there is no hassle with cutting  a pie. I thought it’d be safer to make a double batch cause no way one batch would make enough tarts if one pie wouldn’t be enough for everybody, right? Ha! There is soooo much filling it’s crazy. I bought 60 tart shells which seemed like too many but they are sold in packages of 30 and one package didn’t seem like it’d be enough, I figured I’d have some left over and eventually find a use for them. Oh how wrong I was! I have used all 60 shells and have lots of left over batter, sigh, I have had to pour it in to a corningware dish and stick it in the oven with the last batch of tarts. sigh. I can’t take that in to work so I guess the roomie and I will have pumpkin pudding? I dunno about that but I’ll let you know how it tastes tomorrow. lol.  Oh! The whole point of this was to say why I am over my points, lol, well, I ate one to make sure it tasted ok – I have never made this mixture as a tart and wanted to make sure they were baked through properly without being dry and I have yet to figure out how many points one tart is. shrug. I am not sure how I will figure it out either cause the online nutritional calculator I use needs you to put in to it how many servings the recipe makes and I don’t really know how many it would have made since I ran out of tarts…why didn’t I buy more tarts!?!?!?!? Argh! I will put the recipe info into the calculator after I finish this post and do my best to guesstimate how many tarts could have been made if I had enough tart shells…hopefully they aren’t too many points. And I suppose the “pudding” will be less points cause no shell, right?

Here is what I ate today:

2 pieces toast = 2 points

2 tsp margarine = 2 points

1 small banana = 1 point

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

29 grams Special K Vanilla Almond = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 Uncle Ben’s Rice & Sauce Sweet and Sour = 7 points

1 root beer = 3 points

1 timbit = 2 points

1 pumpkin tart = ?

So, without the tart I am at 22 points, it would have been so perfect! sigh. When I was figuring out what to have for dinner I hadn’t realized I had forgotten to put the root beer and timbit in my food tracker so I thought I had more points to play with then I really did, oops!

tasty but way high in points!

The Uncle Ben’s dinner thing wasn’t so bad, I don’t think it is worth 7 points because it’s only a couple hours after I ate it and I am hungry again, so while yummy and lots of flavour it’s too many points for something that didn’t fill me up. I guess if you are allowed more points per day then I am and need a really quick microwaveable meal they would be a good choice, only 90 seconds till it’s ready to eat…can you believe that? I didn’t really think after 90 seconds it would be ready but it was – I will give the Uncle props for that at least. lol. Oh, and they are kinda pricey but I had a $1 off coupon which yes, I know, isn’t a lot of money, but every little bit helps. 🙂

For weigh in deets, I realize I haven’t mentioned my weigh ins for a couple weeks now, it’s cause they have been uneventful and slightly depressing. sigh. Last week I lost a whopping, get ready for it now…0.2, amazing right? 😛 Then yesterday when I weighed in it was the same, a loss of 0.2, sigh. But today I thought screw it, I am weighing in again! This is always a dangerous thing to do cause what if you gain weight, or at least don’t lose…then do you take the first weigh in result or the second? Hmmmm. Dilemna. lol. So, today, when I weighed in I had gone down 0.8 from yesterday which is 1 pound lighter then last week. See, dilemna. Do I take the weigh in amount from yesterday since that is my official weigh in day or do I take the happier number from today? Well, unless you’re crazed you probably guessed correctly that I took the number from today, hello? I gotta keep my self esteem up here! lol. So, yah! I lost a pound since last week, wOOt! It’s not a lot but it’s better then it could be (like oh say, 0.2 :P) I will try to do better with posting my weigh in results – I guess when they are such low numbers I feel it’s pointless to post them cause who but me will care about 1 pound? But then I thought how blogs I read where people are working at losing weight I like hearing the weight loss amount no matter what it is sooooo, it’s only fair you get the pay-off after reading a week of posts to get a number, right? Right. lol.

Gotta go attempt to figure out the nutritional info for those tarts…cross your fingers the number isn’t too high! 🙂

EDIT:

Alrighty, I figured out the nutritional info as best as I can, the tart shells are 2 points each (that came from the tart packaging) and the filling is 2 points per serving. So, not great but could be a lot worse. lol. The pumpkin pudding I am making will be better cause no crust – takes away about 2 points, altho it’s not like there is a huge amount of filling in each tart which means if I actually eat the pudding in serving amounts equal to that in the tart crusts it’ll take for frickin ever…I am sure it will go bad before I can eat it all. lol. Ah well, I’ll figure something out…now if only it would finish baking so I could go to bed, oy!

Some Confusion Happenin Over Here

14 Oct

It is thursday which means I exercised…yes, somehow I am still managing to do that! lol. The weather was crap most of the day, raining and blah, I am on the 24th floor at work and our view was of the cloud we were in…which to tell the truth I enjoyed, made me feel like I was in the Jetsons. lol. Remember that show? Man, I want to be in the far far far future so bad! Someone needs to invent time travel and I need to be important enough to get to use it…ok, I’ll stop now…lol

who wouldn't want to be in a building that high? or in a flying car? awesome!

While at work I kept looking out at the clouds and the rain hitting the windows and cursing the weather cause yeah, I sooooo don’t hike in the rain. *shakes head* it’s just not gonna happen. I didn’t want to not get my thursday exercise time in and sure, I can use the stationary exercise bike I have but (1) I was hoping to hike as much as possible before the weather makes it impossible and (2) thursdays my roomie watches a bunch of tv shows so she’d be stuck listening and seeing me on the bike while trying to enjoy tv and that’s just not cool. Well, by the time I was on my way home the rain had stopped, it still looked like it was threatening and it was way cloudy and overcast but shrug, whatcha gonna do? I almost didn’t go out, I was uber close to hopping on the bike but I decided I’d just dress warm and suck it up. And it worked. I had to wear two shirts and a hoodie and my legs kinda froze cause my pants are summer weight, oh, and my hands stayed cold the entire time and I got to “enjoy” seeing my breath puff out in front of me – but put all that aside and it was fine. lol.

Here is where my confusion comes in, sigh, you calculate your exercise points using intensity level, the levels are graded as (1) Low, no sweating, (2) Moderate, sweating after 10 minutes and (3) High, sweating 3.5 minutes. Easy-peasy right? Well, normally right, but today? Not so. Normally on this hike I consider myself at the High Intensity level, I use the five minutes it takes to get to the trail as warm up and once on the trail really push myself so I am sweating pretty quickly…er, scratch that, I am glowing pretty quickly cause I am a lady and ladies don’t sweat we glow… 😛 So, normally I am glowing by the 5 minute mark thereby putting me in the High level, following so far? Well today was cold, not freezing I am in the dead of winter cold but it was around 8C which for all you Americans is…wait, I can do this…ok, who am I kidding, I googled it, it’s 46.4F which sounds a lot warmer to me then 8C lol. So definitely a nip to the air. This nip meant I didn’t start sweating, er, glowing, until much farther in to my hike. I was working as hard as I normally do but my body just wasn’t getting that warm that quick – I can not control the weather people! Trust me, if I did it’d be a hell of a lot warmer all the time!

Sooooo, how do I calculate the exercise points? Does my exercise become a moderate intensity level cause I couldn’t get my glow on within the first 5 minutes of my hike cause of weather conditions? Or do I still count it as High cause I know that in non-cool weather it is a high? A dilemna that’s for sure!

Oh, fyi, it is a dilemna I have yet to solve so don’t be looking to this post to answer the question for you. lol. I will do some digging, see what I can learn and if I come up with something I will post it another day but for now? I am in the dark.

Let’s see what I ate today:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 small banana = 1 point

1/2 cup cottage cheese = 2 points

1 Lean Cuisine Chicken a l’orange = 4 points

1 peach = 1 point

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

baby carrots = 0 points

29 grams beefless tips = 1 point

95 grams Green Giant Simply Steamed broccoli and carrots with garlic and herbs = 1 point

1 cup tomato soup = 4 points

1 toasted sandwich

    – 2 pieces bread = 2 points

    – 2 turkey bacon strips = 2 points

    – 2 cheese slices = 2 points

    – 1 tbls light miracle whip = 0 points

Exercise Points Earned = 4

Total points eaten is 26 which is my 22 daily points and my 4 exercise points. 😀

Case you are wondering, I guessed on my exercise points. lol. Since I hadn’t answered my exercise point calculation question I guesstimated. shrug. It’s all good. 🙂 I actually felt a little weird cause I always have something sweet at the end of the day and I didn’t have the points for it so no little piece of chocolate or cookie for me, sadness. I didn’t miss it though, I was nice and full from dinner and felt fine without it – which is a relief cause I didn’t want to go over my points tonight, not when I have gone over in record numbers so far this week and I am going out after work tomorrow and eating who knows what!

Oh! Happy news! Tonight, on the flat area of the trail at the end, I did three jogging/running spurts! wOOt! Last tuesday I managed two jogging/running spurts so today I thought I’d see if I could do better…oh, and they lasted longer too, oh yea babeeee! teehee.

Just A Normal Day

13 Oct

What did I do today? How sad is it that I can’t remember anything worth blogging about…I mean, something must have happened, right? Well, I guess not, especially since most people have fairly boring lives when looked at day to day…one day I will be acting full time and then I will have stories to tell!

But for now let’s get down to the food list for the day:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1 small banana = 1 point

2 salad prawn rolls = 6 points

1 Activia = 2 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

mixed raw veggies = 0 points

1 sandwich

    – 2 pieces bread = 2 points

    – 4 slices Natural Selections chicken = 1 point

    – 1 tblsp light miracle whip = 0 points

    – lettuce, mustard = 0 points

    – 1 cheese slice = 1 point

3 cups kettle corn = 2 points

1 Werther’s Original chocolate crunch = 1 point

Total points eaten 21. sigh. Here is an example of measuring twice cutting once, or as I like to think of it count twice eat once lol. I thought I remembered how many points I had eaten when going to get a snack but I didn’t double check so now I am left with one point to eat and I don’t really want another Werther’s candy – not that they aren’t yummy but one is good enough. Ah well, I will think of something…maybe I will drink some milk or something…

So that chicken I ate it is from Maple Leaf and is called Natural Selections, I tried getting a picture of it so you can see but the pictures won’t load for some reason, shrug, if you go to www.mapleleaf.com you can get a look at it so you know what to search for at the grocery store. The company also has a contest happening right now where you can enter to win free groceries for a year, the odds of winning are probably slim to none but it can’t hurt to try, right? The turkey I had last week in my sandwiches is the same thing…just a different bird, duh. lol. The turkey is better then the chicken imo. Not that the chicken didn’t taste good in my sandwich it just pulls apart way easy and doesn’t look nice…which, is stupid I guess cause hello? it’s slapped between two pieces of bread so it’s not like I was looking at it, but for me anyways what food looks like plays a big part in how much I like it.

I did some baking tonight, Vegan Pumpkin Pecan Blondies. No, I am not going vegan – I like eating animal products too much for that lol, but I found the recipe online and it sounded good so I figured I’d give it a try. I had to buy almond milk, why in the world people want the milk from an almond is beyond me but oh well, I try not to judge. lol. I made them to take to work tomorrow and they haven’t cooled enough yet for me to know if they are good or not, cross your fingers they taste alright! Normally I don’t eat my own baking but I think I am gonna have to at least taste one of these cause the one batch I am not fully confident is baked all the way through but if I left it in any longer the edges would have burnt, grr to uneven oven temps. 😛 But first I will put all the ingredients in to a nutritional information calculator online and find out just how bad these things are!

What’s One Step Down From A Miracle?

12 Oct

Whatever is one step down from a miracle is what I got today – I can’t believe what happened. For most of you it won’t seem like a big deal but to me, and people who know my “knee history” well, it’s practically a miracle.

Many many moons ago (aka a bunch of years) I hurt my knee, bad. I used to go to the gym everyday back then and I pushed myself hard – I took these pills (sigh, yeah I know!) that gave me a boost of energy, I thought this was a great plan cause it meant I could do like 2.5-3 hours of intense cardio every single frickin day and on top of that I would do weights, some sort of kickboxing class or a boot camp, and stretching. They were long crazy gym sessions that I loved! So, one day (the last day of summer before the new college year started) I went to the gym then came back home and saw some shelves I had been wanting put up in my bedroom were up – a friend of my parents is a handy guy kinda guy and he put them up for me. I, in a move I still regret sigh, went to climb on my bed so I could reach the shelves and put stuff on them and that’s when it happened. It’s almost embarassing how I did this…sigh, I stepped up with my right leg putting all my weight on my left – not a big deal, right? Well, wrong. My knee was weakened from my over exercising and it gave out (this next part gets icky so be warned!) – I didn’t just stumble, oh no. I went crashing down, hit my desk, chair, garbage can and a stack of books before landing on the hardwood floor *rolls eyes* and when I landed my left knee cap was behind my knee instead of in front where it belongs. Oh geez, I am getting creeped out just remembering it, ugh.

All I can say is my poor parents, they were gonna go out that evening and instead they hear me falling to the floor and landing with a thud and then me swearing and screaming. lol. Looking back it is a bit funny, in a cringe worthy kind of way but at the time…oh so not funny! They had to call an ambulance and these paramedics showed up, I am sure everyone thought I was freaking out over nothing but hey, it’s their job to at least take a look right? So they cut up the side of my favourite lounging pants (I am still upset about this! the guy promised to cut on the seam and didn’t so the pants were ruined!) and the next thing I hear is my mom gasping when she sees my knee and the paramedic saying it is the worst dislocation he has ever seen, great just great. So now that the paramedic knows I am not faking I was hoping he’d put it back cause hello? Pain! but no, he comes at me with a frickin needle (I am phobic about needles, lol, I instinctivly tried to get away from the IV which meant I moved which meant I jarred my knee which meant I swore some more which meant he caught up to me with the needle, and guess what? the knee hurt so badly I barely noticed the needle!) and then they put this weird split stretcher on either side of me and kinda scooped me up in to it. Strange sensation that.

Off to the ER we went at the worlds sloooowest speed cause every bump jarred my knee, oy! Then came the “joy” of hanging out in the ER, I can’t remember why it took so long to get a doctor (there was probably an accident or something) but it seemed to take for frickin ever to get a doctor. When the idiot doctor finally comes to see me he’s all “what’s the big deal, why didn’t you just put the kneecap back?” oh gee, like I hadn’t thought of that?!?! Jackass! He then puts one hand on the front of my thigh, one behind my ankle and yup, you guess it, snapped it back – I am fairly certain I remember screaming. This is without the benefit of any kind of decent pain medication, I thought I’d throw that in there in case you are at this point thinking what a wimp I am. lol. I found out a month later at physio that it is normal procedure to drug a person in to la-la land before putting a dislocated knee back – I was apparently the “lucky” small percentage of people who got a doctor who decided to not do that, again, the jackass! grr

After all that I got the “joy” of wearing a foam cast thingy that went from hip to ankle for an entire month…you’d think it wouldn’t be so bad except that I had to treat it like a hard cast which means that sucker couldn’t come off! Man, sleeping with that thing was a royal pain in my…well, leg. lol. All in all, it took a good year for me to be able to walk normally, first I was on crutches, then I had a cane then a horrible limp and inability to go up or down stairs like a normal person then eventually I was able to walk almost like a normal person. You should have seen me the first time I was able to walk up stairs one leg after the other (the way normal people do stairs) I couldn’t get the dopey grin off my face. lol. Lame, I know.

Why did I bore you with all that? Here is where I explain. Today, while hiking my 3.8km path I…jogged. Me! That is my one-step-below-a-miracle miracle. 😀

I was never a person who liked to jog or run but at least I could if I so desired. Well, since the whole knee incident I have not jogged or run anywhere. I occaisionally walk super fast but that’s it. When I am hiking I go at a strong steady fast walk, never anything faster. Part of the reason is I am scared to blow my knee out again, my knee specialist said it was for sure going to happen again and I’d need surgery, joy, and part of the reason is I am fat and therefore don’t jog/run well at all, and hello? I don’t want my fat bouncing all over the place! That’s just unattractive! lol. But today while on the trail I thought why not at least try? There is a stretch at the end of the trail that is fairly flat and easy, I use it as a cool down period normally so today I jogged parts of it. I still can’t believe it…

I didn’t jog a lot, I have no endurance for jogging, but I did one jogging burst, walked a bit, then did another burst of jogging…the first burst, it was weird…I didn’t feel like I had to stop, I wasn’t gasping or feeling like I was gonna fall or anything, I just thought that I should have to stop at that point cause I am so out of shape so I stopped. lol. Weird huh? The second burst I actually felt like I had to stop but more cause my knees were hurting – I don’t think I have very good form while jogging and I have a lot of excess weight which is hard on the knees. But ya know what, who cares that it was only two short bursts of jogging? I sure don’t! I am psyched I was actually able to jog at all! This is ranking right up there with the first time I was able to get my thigh muscle to clench again and the first time I took a step without a cane and the first time I stepped up on a stair left leg first…I think you see where this is ranking. lol.

And wow, that was a long blurb, sorry! Let’s get the the grit of things…

Today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 cup tomato soup = 2 points

1 whole wheat bagel = 3 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1/2 cup cottage cheese = 2 points

mixed cooked veggies = o points

2 slices pizza = 8 points

3 Lifestyle shortbread cookies = 3 points

Exercise Points earned = 5 points

Total points eaten 27 which is my daily 22 points and my 5 exercise points, yah! 😀

I probably shouldn’t have eaten the pizza, and I actually didn’t want it, weirdness, but I wanted it out of the fridge and figured suck it up, eat both slices tonight when you have the exercise points and can fit the pizza in and then it’s done. So, shrug, that’s what I did. I don’t feel bad about eating the pizza but I am amused at myself that I would have preferred some salmon and a big serving of vegg. Oh how things change! lol

Quick little note, my little jogging bursts are soooo making themselves known in my thigh muscles right now…Awesome! 😀

The Day After

11 Oct

So yesterday was the worst food day I have had since this whole journey started, I thought today might feel like I was starting over but it doesn’t, it feels like one more day in the journey – which I think is good, means I am still on my path and the little (freakin big!) detour I took yesterday wasn’t such a big deal. Sounds pretty good, don’t-cha think? 😛

I slept in, aaaaah, gotta love doing that on a monday! Before I went out I made sure to have a nice big meal so as to prevent any screwing up while I was out. I had the two left over slices of pizza in the fridge and I kept toying with eating those and just getting them out of the way but instead I made a grilled sandwich and had some fruit and yogurt with it. The meal I made came out to 9.25 points which is funny cause if I had eaten the two slices of pizza they would have been 8 points – the healthier option was more points?!? Oh the irony. I am ok with the 9.25 points though because I got dairy, protein, fruit, vegg, carbs…all kinds of goodness! Sure, the pizza had lots of veggies so that would have been something, and I s’pose the cheese could have been a serving of dairy (I am really not sure about that tho), and yeah the crust is carbs but when weighing the food I ate and the pizza I feel confident the food I ate was the healthier option, despite what the points say. I am pretty sure the pizza wouldn’t have kept me as full for as long either, so there ya go, my fresh made meal kicked the pizzas ass! lol

Here is what I ate:

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 toasted sandwich

    – 2 pieces bread = 2 points

    – 2 slices turkey = 0.5 points

    – 2 cheese slices = 2 points

    – 1 tbls light miracle whip = 0 points

    – 2 tomato slices = 0 points

1/4 cup mashed yam = 0.75 points

1 cup 1% milk = 2 points

3 cup kettle corn = 2 points

1 Starbucks Latte Grande = 6 points

1 grapefruit = 1 point

1/2 tbls sugar = 1 point

2 Peek Freans LifeStyle Selections shortcake cookies = 2 points

1 Werther’s Original Chocolate Crunch = 1 point

Total points used is 22.25. I was really toying with that werther’s candy, it was either be a little bit under my points or a little bit over and maybe it would have been better to be a bit under because of all those points I ate yesterday but I dunno. My logic went both ways, the first was: if I go under after a day of going so so so over it might be too much of an adjustment for my body food intake wise and it’ll mess with my metabolism cause my body won’t know what is going on, logic two is: keeping my metabolism on its toes is the way to go, having a low calorie day after a high calorie day keeps the body wondering what is going on and it can’t coast cause it is constantly adjusting.

Really, since it’s such a small difference (only 1 point for the candy) I doubt it’ll make a difference no matter which way I went but it does make me wonder which is the right choice. There is split thinking on this in the world of healthy eating. Some “experts” say no matter what eating plan you are following you should have about two higher calorie days per week cause it keeps your metabolism from plateauing. I am pretty sure you can guess what the other “experts” say…that would be the opposite of having two higher calorie days lol…as in keep every day as close to the same calorie wise so your body knows it is not gonna be starved and doesn’t start hoarding your body fat. Too bad you can’t just speak to your body and have it understand, that way you can warn it what you are going to do and it won’t freak out. Course…that would put you on the train to crazy town so maybe don’t start talking to the bod. lol.

Oh, heads up, those LifeStyle shortcake cookies I ate, holy crap they are gooooood! They are a new find – I came accross them today by chance. They are real shortcake not some health crap pretending to be shortcake, sure they are a tad small but that’s what you get when it’s 1 point for 1 cookie. I feel it is going to take me forever and a day to get through the box and I almost wish I had not discovered them until December (in my world shortcake cookies go with christmas) but like I am really complaining about finding a yummy low point cookie? Yah, right! lol.

So Way Too Much Food…ugh…

10 Oct

I don’t know how I managed to eat like this all the time, how I could stand feeling so sickly and gross. And yet, I did it often enough to get myself in this mess didn’t I?

Today was my Thanksgiving feast – I got a small Beef Taco Pizza from Panago and a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream on top from White Spot. Brought them both home and had myself a little (well, large) meal while watching a movie I rented. It was s’posed to be a throwback to the old days – see back in the day I would rent a couple movies, order in a pizza and have an evening of calorie laden bliss. I didn’t do it all the time but often enough to do damage to my waist line. lol. When I used to do this I would have the pizza delivered and always ordered a medium – I always figured it made better sense to order a medium and have enough left overs to last me a couple days, better use of my money. *rolls eyes* I know, I know, I think of that now and I wanna kick myself but it’s how I convinced myself back in the day it was ok to eat way too much pizza. This time I ordered a small and picked it up (saved on paying a tip teehee) but the goodness of getting a small pizza was completely out measured by the piece of pie I picked up from the restaurant. Oy. Pie slices from restaurants are crazy huge, and it was more expensive to buy one slice from there then to get an entire pie from Safeway but in this I felt the extra money was worth it, better to pay a bit more but only have one slice then to pay less and have an entire pie staring at you everytime you open the fridge door.

So I got all settled with my movie, chowed down on my pizza and ate way too much. I just kept going…it was disgusting. I should have stopped after 2 pieces but I didn’t, did I stop at 3 pieces? Nope, didn’t stop there either…4 pieces!! I ate 4 entire slices of pizza!! I might as well be rolled out the door while I can still fit and taken to a fat camp, ugh. Even as I was eating the 4th piece I was trying to figure out why I was eating it, no way I was hungry at that point but it was like something had been unchained and I couldn’t control it. sigh. When I was done the 4 slices I put the left overs in the fridge and decided the pie was gonna hafta wait cause I felt so ill there was no way I was gonna be able to eat it right then. I didn’t wait all that long to eat that pumpkin pie though, not even the entire length of the movie! I don’t know exactly how long I waited I just know the movie wasn’t over and I was eating the pumpkin pie, whipped cream an all! And do you think I left the crust behind to save myself calories? Well, if you did think that you are delusional! I ate it all. Admittedly it was yummy but double the width of a slice I would have cut for myself and way more whipped cream then what I would have topped it with. Why do restaurants do that?!

Looking back I should have put two slice of pizza on my plate and put the rest in the fridge right away. My brain has gotten used to only seeing the food I am actually going to eat so it knows it is ok to eat everything in front of me, but this, having the open pizza box, it was like my brain didn’t know when to stop. Oh, and I pulled out a large plate! The horrors! I never use those anymore, all my food is served on small plates, that way it looks like way more. I was just breaking all kinds of rules today. sigh.

It’s weird, I knew in advance I was going to eat the pizza and pie today, I convinced myself it was ok cause it was a one time treat for a holiday and blah blah blah. What a load of shit! Who cares that it is a holiday? That’s no reason to go off the deep end! All those weeks, hell, months of fighting to get my weight down and I go and eat a disgustingly huge meal in a super short amount of time which will pretty much screw my body up and confuse the hell out of it – and instead of admitting to myself I was using this holiday as an excuse to cheat big time on my “healthy eating lifestyle” I kept tricking myself in to not facing up to what I was doing. I didn’t even have the guts to be a straight shooter with myself in regards to this little (huge) step off the path to the world of thin.

I would like to say tomorrow I will be back to following all the rules and everything will be good but I am gonna be at a friends place for a good chunk of the day and have no idea what is gonna happen with food. I mean, obviously I will eat before I go, and try my best to take a snack over but if I am over there long enough that we end up getting a meal, shrug, there is only so much control I have over where we go and what options are on the menu. I will definitly be reading the salad section of the menu though!

So, I don’t have points calculated for my food yet today but here is a list, I will add points when I have them…although, I kinda don’t wanna know…

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1 banana = 2 points

4 slices of pizza = ?

1 slice pumpkin pie with whipped cream = ?

1 can root beer = 3 points

Oh yeah, I didn’t even mention the root beer! I drank points! I never drink points! Since starting this whole thing the only liquid I take in is tea and water, oh and sometimes milk. I gave up pop but today, well, if you’re gonna be stupid might as well be stupid all at once I guess. FYI, that was the best root beer ever! I have really missed it. lol.

So off I go to calculate my pizza and pie points…I will edit this soon.

EDIT:

omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg I think I am having a bit of a panic attack, what have I done?!?! here are the points, keeping in mind they are approximations…not like that makes it any better tho…

The Pizza: the nutritional info is based on a single slice of a medium pizza, I ordered a small so my slices were smaller but I doubt they were so much smaller as to make much of a difference points wise, 1 slice = 4 points, omg, so that’s 16 points worth of pizza.

The Pumpkin Pie: I calculated the points on a slice of pumpkin pie from the nutritional info on a pie at the grocery store earlier in the week, it came to 1 slice = 6 points, crap, then add on the whipped cream which is 1 tbls = 1 point and I am in deep deep trouble, for the pie I approximated it at 10 points.

That puts me at a total of 33 points eaten for the day, 33! That is 11 flex points! ELEVEN!!!! Plus the one flex point I used yesterday, I have used 12 flex points in two days, omg. I might as well hit myself on the head with a hard blunt object for all I good I did myself today.

The only bright side I am finding here is I did get one measly piece of fruit at the beginning of the day with the banana, and I got some dairy in me with the yogurt. Plus, the pizza is topped with soooo many veggies that has to count towards my veggie count for the day. It doesn’t negate the damage I have done but at least while doing all that damage I was getting some good stuff. I am not counting the fruit/veg serving from the pumpkin pie, I am sure the healthiness was baked right out of it! lol

So what all this means is I have to be uber careful this coming week, no cheating, no little snacks here or there I shouldn’t have, no giving in to temptation at work – strict strict strict, and if I feel myself caving all I have to do is look back here and read how many points I ate in one day, one very low activity level day, that’ll keep me on track for sure!

Looooooong Weekend!

8 Oct

Long weekends have got to be one of the best things ever! I think the only thing better is when you are still in school and get summer vacation and have all those glorious months off. sigh. I guess it’s a little sad to get so excited about having an extra day off…and really, I picked up a nannying shift for saturday evening so I still only get two days off but whatever – I am looking forward to sleeping in for 3 days in a row! lol.

For all of you not living in Canada it is Thanksgiving. Gobble Gobble, happy turkey day an all that. lol. Thanksgiving isn’t really all that big a deal in my family, I mean what is it really? A holiday celebrating the fact that the Native Americans were nice enough to help the settlers learn about the local food? That’d be great if the settlers hadn’t turned around and then attempted to wipe the Native American’s off the planet. *rolls eyes* Seems like a farce to me. And there is my rant about that, lol.

In my family the thanksgiving long weekend means one thing: Pizza! Yup, that’s right, pizza! 😀 My dad would always go to visit his mom (she lived in a diff province) and my mom and us kids would order in pizza. This may sound boring but we didn’t eat pizza a lot so it was quite the treat. I wasn’t going to do anything different this weekend, well except for sleeping in on monday lol, but then I decided screw it, why shouldn’t I get to eat some kind of treat this weekend? Everybody else will be.

So on Sunday I am getting a pizza! Yup, a real pizza – not one I make (which are yummy but just not the same), not a frozen one from the store but a real, fresh, bad for me pizza. lol. I already know what I am getting, it is from Panago and it’s the Beef Taco Pizza, holy frog on a stick it is goooood! The best pizza out there! I have been looking forward to this pizza for a week now, the waiting has been hard but worth it. It’ll make the pizza that much better I think. 😀

For today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

1/2 cup Maple Baked Beans = 2 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1/2 cup mashed yam = 1.5 points

mixed raw veggies = 0 points

1 Fiesta salad = 6 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

1tsp margarine = 1 point

1 coffee crisp single = 2 points

Puts me at a grand total of 23.5 points for the day. sigh. I did it again! I don’t know what is wrong with me lately, argh. I forgot I had the piece of toast right before I ate my salad so when I was writing my dinner down to see if I had any points left I thought I had more then I really did and now I have gone over, double sigh. I hate doing that!

Oh, hmm, ok, I guess I will stop the rant I was about to start, I just took a moment to do the math and see how many flex points I used this week, it was 6 so I am ok. lol. I felt like I had used a lot more because I don’t regulate them I just use a couple here and there as I so choose. Proof right there peeps about how if you don’t keep track of what you are eating you can get a warped idea of how good or bad your food amounts and choices are. It’s so true, least for me. shrug. I would have days where I felt like I ate a lot and when I really thought about what I ate that day it’d turn out I ate hardly anything and vice versa. It’s odd isn’t it? I wonder why people (especially me) do that…

Tomorrow is weigh in day, oh, and new measurement day cause I kinda messed it up last week. lol. I wonder if going for that hike thursday will have any noticeable affect on the scale tomorrow…I know I shouldn’t expect anything since I only exercised twice and one of those times doesn’t really count, lol, but hey, a girl can hope!

Did I Really Do That?

7 Oct

I did something I totally never thought I would do – I had the idea on my way home from work and before the idea was even fully formed a different part of my brain (normally the louder part) was yelling at least 10 different reasons to not go through with the idea. What was the crazed idea? It was simply this – go for a hike after work so I get some exercise.

Crazy, right? lol. Even though I spent the whole rest of the way home justifying not going out for a quick hike I still somehow went…it’s like I don’t even know myself!

Here were my reasons to not go: (1) I am lazy (2) it looks like it is gonna rain (3) sunset comes way early now and there is a lot of overgrowth along the path so it gets dark on the path soon as the sun starts to dip down (4) I am lazy – that one deserves to be repeated (5) I didn’t have an afternoon snack so I won’t have enough energy to finish the path…there were more but you get the idea.

Here is what convinced me to go: (1) I wanted to earn exercise points to make up for the higher point lunch I had (2) the weather will be nasty soon and I won’t actually be able to use the path cause it’ll be all mud and for real too dark by the time I get home so I should use it while I can (3) for some weird reason I wanted to, I think cause I got in to a habit of exercising on tuesdays and thursdays, my body now seems to expect it…that’s it, only three pathetic reasons to go versus a whole slew of reasons to not go and what did I do? I went! *rolls eyes* logic just thrown out the window. *shakes head*

I didn’t do too badly though, better then the last time I went – course the last time I took that path I was 11.6 pounds heavier, I may not be in a shape even remotely close to being called “good” or “decent” but I can tell the difference between hiking 3.8 km at my starting weight and hiking it now. wowza.

When I was on the path, I was about mmmm, 15 minutes in maybe and I was thinking how I was doing pretty well, good form, decent speed stuff like that and then this guy comes up from behind, now instead of hollering out “left!” so I move over to the side of the path he goes off the path, leaps like a frickin gazelle over a log and some bushes then pops up on the path in front of me – all without breaking his stride or seeming at all bothered by the extra exertion. uh, hello? You just leaped in the air, like…well, what the hell leaps? um, leaping antelope? Yeah, let’s go with that! Who does that?!?! Freaky way in shape people, that’s who! I suppose if I had almost no body fat I could leap all over the place too, harumph. 😛

Today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1 nectarine = 1 point

1 Lean Cuisine Sweet n Sour chicken = 5 points

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

2 triangles light laughing cow cheese = 1 point

1 english muffin = 3 points

1 burger patty = 4 points

1 cheese slice = 1 point

1 corn on the cob = 1 point

1 tsp margarine = 1 point

1/2 cup mashed yam = 1.5 points

1 Quakers Crunch’ers = 2 points

Exercise Points Earned = 5 points

Total points eaten is 26.5 which sounds horrible but! that is my 22 daily points and 4.5 of my exercise points. 😀 So take a deep breath, it’s all good. lol.

I had to guesstimate on how many exercise points I earned today, I would call the path a moderate activity level and it took me an hour to complete but that would only give me 3 exercise points and I worked out way harder tonight then I did in the swordfighting classes and those classes got me 3 points. So I thought ok, calculate it as a strenuous activity level but that would be 9 points – no way it was worth 9 points! I decided to compromise and picked a number in between the 3 and the 9. shrug. My own kind of math. lol.

It’s weird how people say exercise gives you energy, it never does that for me. It’s like my endorphines didn’t get the memo or something. shrug. Once I got home I showered, put laundry in, ate dinner and during all that all I wanted to do was go to bed. It’s still all I want to do but I have to wait for the dryer to finish, sigh. But hey, it’s all good, the long weekend is almost here and then I can sleep all I want! 😀

Buckwheat aka Kasha

6 Oct

I got intro’d to a new food today, Z at work brought me 1/2 cup cooked buckwheat to try. Ain’t that so nice? lol She has been eating it for ages an ages apparently and we were talking food yesterday and I guess this inspired her to share some with me, yah! I have been trying to not experiment exactly but go out of my comfort zone when it comes to food. I had it in my head eating healthy consisted of boring vegetables and, well…hmm, that’s about it. lol. So I look around a bit more at the grocery store and I talk food with people I know to get ideas for things to try.

the trickster!

Today I tried the buckwheat (which is also called kasha). I do not know how it was cooked since Z cooked it but I know she said she put a bit of fish sauce on it cause that is how she eats it. 🙂 It was good – one of those grains that doesn’t really have flavour, like rice, so it picks up the flavour of whatever you put it with. I had it as a side with my fish and veggies at dinner time and tried to eat most forkfuls of it “uncontaminated” by the other foods on my plate so I could fully appreciate the kasha on its own.

I did something I never do though – I didn’t check the points before I ate it! Shocking I know! lol. 😛 I got home late and was hungry so I decided to make dinner and risk the points of the kasha, figuring it couldn’t be all that bad points wise since it’s only a half cup – I was wrong, oh so wrong!

Here is the Nutritional Info:

Now look at that protein and fiber, it’s frickin amazing, practically a miracle food! BUT! Look at the evil calories!! That is a lot! ugh. Luckily I only had a 1/2 cup but that is still 4.5 points, sigh. I would never eat a cup of kasha cause hello? who wants to waste 9 points on a side dish?

Z says she eats it with milk, like a porridge, and that it is super yummy and fills her up till lunch time but I think I will stick with my cereal and fruit thanks very much – that is only 4 points and fills me up just fine. 🙂

So, as a new food yah! it tasted decently good and was a pleasant side dish but will I buy and make it on my own? Nope! Too many calories for moi!

Today I ate:

29 grams honey nut cheerios = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1/2 cup diced peaches = 1 point

1/2 cup mixed fresh fruit = 1 point

1/2 cup Maple Baked Beans = 2 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

1 Activia yogurt = 2 points

Green Giant Essentials Fibre = 2 points

2 triangles light laughing cow = 1 point

1 corn on the cob = 1 point

1 tsp margarine = 1 point

1/2 cup buckwheat = 4.5 points

grilled veggies = 0 points

1 dill sauce salmon steak = 3 points

1 thinsations oreo cakesters = 2 points

Grand total of 24.5 points, shoot! 😀 I forgot I had eaten the green giant veggies at lunch so when I was tallying up at the end of the day I thought I had done ok but then I remembered those stupid veggies. Grr! I mean sure they are tasty but they come already in a sauce so it adds points – I don’t normally use sauces on my veggies thereby saving me points. Ah well, using 2.5 of my flex points isn’t gonna kill me – I just hate using them by accident, I prefer knowing I am about to use them and being prepared for the final number of points at the end of the day, ya know?

At work today there were two big temptations, sigh. First off a catered breakfast with nice yummy looking breakfast sandwiches and wraps…I had the 1/2 cup mixed fresh fruit, double sigh. lol. The sandwiches and wraps were all full of crazed bad stuff, bacon, greasy eggs, cheese…I figured it was safer to avoid it all. 😛 Then at lunch there was a meeting where we were fed which awesome right? Well, no. Cause imagine being trapped in a room that has the door closed and being surrounded by people eating pizza. Oh man, the smell almost killed me! When that meeting was over I bolted so fast to go grab my lunch from the kitchen. lol. Normally when there is a meeting over lunch I take my own lunch with me but this meeting was early, at 11:30am so I thought I’d be ok waiting till after to eat – I didn’t anticipate how the smell and visuals would affect me. Oh! And LL literally holding a piece in front of my face and offering me a bite *groan* that is some cruel torture man. *shakes head*
