Toby’s North Shore

12 Nov

Ok, first off I have to apologize at my lack of photograph, I am a bad foodie, sigh, and forgot to take a picture of my dinner. And fyi, I so should have because daaaamn that dinner was good! lol πŸ˜›

This past Monday a friend and I met up for dinner and we went to Toby’s, here is the restaurant’s website link:

http://tobysnorthshore.ca/

Now, if I had been a good little dieter I would have ordered a salad but I was cold, and hungry, and tired, and all of those things conspired to make it easier for me to justify splurging on my calories and ordering something based on my taste bud’s preference vs my desire to get a smaller ass preference.

Enter the Pulled Pork Sandwich, or as they call it the Pulled Pork Crunch.

This would be where a picture of it would go if I had one, *big epic sigh*

It is a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and onion rings on a hoagie.

So good. So so so good. As in amazingly good! As in go order this sandwich! Mmm! πŸ˜€

The side options are fries, salad or colcannon which if I remember correctly is mashed potato with kale in it. I figured I was already goin to town with the calories in the sandwich no point in pretending to be healthy by getting a side salad lol so I got the fries.

The fries are also delish! They are the type that have a batter of some sort on them that makes them super crunchy, man I love those. πŸ™‚

The sandwich, the epic amazing sandwich, oh where to begin! It is huge, so I cut it in half and even eating just half leaves you full. There is a lot of pulled pork on the sandwich, as there should be, with a good ratio of meat to sauce. So, not too drippy but not dry either. Some sauce ended up on my plate but not enough I felt I was losing all the good stuff lol There is also coleslaw on the sandwich, it seemed to be more for texture as I didn’t really taste it. Again, the ratio of coleslaw to everything else was spot on. Then there were, I want to say three large onion rings but it might have been four, and those are what took the sandwich up a notch.

Who doesn’t like onion rings? Only crazy people! So adding them to an already delicious sandwich is brilliant!…in my oh so humble opinion that is lol πŸ˜‰

After eating half the sandwich and a little under half the fries I stopped eating, engaging in the trick everyone trying to lose weight knows about where you eat slow (which I sorta didn’t do) and take time after finishing so your brain can realize your stomach is actually full. I really wanted to keep eating but instead engaged in conversation and what do you know, it worked! I was perfectly fine with getting the server to pack up the leftovers to go because half a huge sandwich and a little under half an order of fries really does fill a stomach.

However, some guilt kicked in on the drive home and I started thinking about how I probably really screwed up my calories for the Monday and taking the left overs home would mean I would eat them on Tuesday thereby screwing up my calories for two days in a row which, hmm, yeah, not cool. So I engaged in a little bit of good karma and gave my left overs to a homeless lady I saw on the way home. Don’t go freaking out to me about germs an stuff, I cut the sandwich so the half I gave her I hadn’t even touched let alone bit in to and the fries were unmolested also since I only touched the fries I ate.

Then, me being me I emailed the contact info from the website requesting the nutritional information buuuut I didn’t really think I’d get an answer. Or if they did answer it would be to tell me they don’t know, which sucks.

Happy surprise I got an answer the next day and he had the nutritional information! According to Chef Chris (he is the one who answered my email) the sandwich was 400 calories and the fries were 225 calories.

Not bad at all!

I was expecting the meal to be well over 1000 calories, and I’m not really sure how it wasn’t, but I also don’t care, I am just happy it was not nearly as high as I imagined lol

Plus, it gets even better when you remember I only ate half!

I sorta wished I hadn’t given my left overs away but I’m sure the lady I gave them to needed the food more than I do so I guess I’m actually still glad I gave them away. πŸ™‚

Some Healthy Food…For A Change!

6 Nov

It seems that lately, when I write about food I am writing about baking I have done. Delicious but completely unhealthy baking. I don’t believe in baking “healthy”, ya know, where you swap out sugar for splenda or use apple sauce instead of, well, whatever it is people take out when they swap in apple sauce. Nuh-uh. If you’re gonna eat a cupcake, or cookie, or piece of cake or whatever than just go for it and eat the real thing! Just maybe not all day every day… πŸ˜›

Don’t fret, the post I am writing after this one is about some Nutella Brownies I made recently but for this post it is all about healthier options that I have made lately, and surprisingly, each one is tasty!

My first happy find was at Whole Foods, which makes me a bit ashamed because I am anti-Whole Foods buuuuut I was in the attached coffee shop with a friend last week, it was pouring rain, I was cold, wet, and super hungry and instead of splurging on a piece of pie or cookie I bought this…

Oatmeal!

Oatmeal!

Ok sure, it would make a better picture if the oatmeal was still in the jar but I had already eaten it lol It is a fake mason jar, it had oatmeal, coconut, pecans and some brown sugar all layered in a pretty way on top of each other. I think it is actually meant to be purchased and taken with you as-is but I had them add boiling water to it and ate it while sitting in the coffee shop with my friend. It was a bit bland, I had to add more brown sugar to it, but otherwise it was good. What I like most about it is the jar, which seems odd but hear me out! Race days always start super early, too early to be eating breakfast at home so usually I end up buying a brekkie sandwich on the way to the race grid and eating it while driving which lets be honest, may be tasty but isn’t a healthy way to be starting the day. Plus eating that fast leaves me feeling icky lol So I brought the jar home, washed it, and will tuck it away until I have a morning where I have to leave early and don’t have time to eat before I leave. I will fill it the night before with oats and whatever toppings I want, add boiling water in the morning, stir, pop the lid on, and bring it with me. By the time I get to wherever I’m going I’ll have a perfect jar of oatmeal! πŸ™‚

My second healthy food is super simple, and I suppose a bit boring but I like it! I’ve been wanting a rice bowl lately, which is unfortunate because I don’t really eat rice anymore. I love rice but I lump it in the same category as potatoes and other “filler” items which means to me they are unnecessary and to be avoided. sigh. Just because something tastes good doesn’t mean it is worth the calories! I was at a Sushi restaurant that I frequent quite often (I looooove sushi!) and I, on a whim, bought a take-out serving of brown rice. Mmm, brown rice! White is tastier but if I’m gonna splurge on rice I figure make it the healthier option…which I just realized is in complete opposition to my feelings in regards to baked goods, weird…

To go with the brown rice I bought some “pulled chicken” which isn’t really a thing. Safeway sells rotisserie chickens and every now and then they strip the meat off of one and sell the meat in a container, it is already in bite sized pieces, the skin has been removed and oh man is it tasty! I really like those chickens but it is way too much meat for me so when I see the containers with the smaller amounts in them I pluck them up from the deli section super fast.

I also bought a sweet potato, cucumber and yellow pepper. I put half a cup of brown rice in a bowl with 38 grams of the chicken and popped it in the microwave for a minute. When it was hot I mixed in 1/2 tablespoon of bbq sauce then topped the rice and chicken with some cubed sweet potato, pepper and cucumber.

Brown rice, chicken, sweet potato, cucumber, yellow pepper and bbq sauce.

Brown rice, chicken, sweet potato, cucumber, yellow pepper and bbq sauce.

Ok so not the most appetizing looking dish but it did taste good, satisfied my yen for the rice bowl and wasn’t too bad calorie wise.

I copied the instructions from a video I found on YouTube for cooking the sweet potato and it worked great! Here is the video…

The third food is sort of a two parter. I was watching a different YouTube video and this girl made a banana smoothie. All she put in the blender were two sliced and frozen bananas and two “splashes” of milk. I hate when people don’t use measurements, sigh. The result was a frothy, creamy, tasty looking smoothie that she swore tasted good. I decided to give it a try but just did one banana and half a cup of milk. I didn’t want to commit to a larger smoothie drink in case I didn’t like it. Well, turns out I liked it, it was good. The size I made was perfect if you want to use the smoothie as a treat or dessert instead of a meal.

Now, on a whim I bought some Special K Protein Shakes (chocolate flavour). Don’t judge! I was in line at the grocery store, the line was massive and wasn’t moving and I was standing right beside a display for these things and they were on sale. Total impulse buy! I put them in the fridge and had yet to work up the courage to try one, I was kinda worried they would taste super gross and I’d be stuck with them anyways lol

2015-11-07 00.04.51

I decided to use the chocolate protein shake instead of milk and a sliced, frozen banana to make a shake this evening and figured the addition of frozen raspberries could only make it better, right? Right! The result turned out like this…

Chocolate protein shake, frozen banana and frozen raspberries. Mmm!

Chocolate protein shake, frozen banana and frozen raspberries. Mmm!

It is delish! I used about 3/4 cup of frozen raspberries, one small banana (sliced and frozen) and one container of the Special K Protein shake which is about 1 cup. One thing I didn’t anticipate is that the chocolate shake is thicker than milk so the resulting drink was super thick. I could have thinned it out by adding some milk I suppose but I opted to try it as-is. I ended up eating it with a spoon lol Next time I just might put it in a bowl, it was like ice cream after you stirred it all around in the bowl with a spoon and it is smooth and creamy. Definite dessert material! The shakes also come in vanilla and strawberry and there is no end to frozen fruit to try, I’m looking forward to experimenting and trying all sorts of new flavour combos. πŸ™‚

It’s Been A While

23 Oct

So yeah, it has been a while since I have written. Why, you may or may not be wondering? Well, it is a combo of being busy, feeling I have nothing interesting to write about, tech problems (my laptop is dying but I can’t afford to replace it, sigh) and laziness, hey, don’t judge! Least I am honest! lol πŸ˜‰

What has been going on in my world lately, hmm…

I stopped baking every week, mostly because of not having time, and ingredients are pricey, which sucks cause I love to bake. I am hoping to bake some yummy treats for a halloween party I am going to, I’ll be making a double batch so I can take some to work cause hey, if you are going to make something full of calories you may as well share it! teehee

I’ve had some pretty awesome auditions. One went so well I got booked in to an episode of a show and I filmed the episode not this past Tuesday but the Tuesday before that. I had a lot of fun! It was great being back on set and I am sooooo looking forward to the next project I book! πŸ˜€ I had another audition for a project I super duper want but it wasn’t my best audition, sigh. There is still hope (there is always hope!) but instead of staying super positive and being sure I am going to get the part I am leaning more towards trying to move past the audition and look forward to my next opportunity. I was so sure I was going to get this part though, when I got the audition it seemed meant to be so I’m kinda bummed about how down I feel about it now. sigh. I know I could rock this part! I keep imagining the convo I would have with my agent if he called me to tell me I got the part, who knows, maybe all my imagining will make it happen? Ok, ridiculous I know but lets just let it go ok? πŸ˜‰

I just finished watching the movieΒ Hotel Transylvania, it was showing on tv, and I liked it, lol, it is cute!

I’ve lost ten pounds, yay! I think I maaaay have gained some of that back, possibly, I’m not sure, I just feel like I’ve been making poor food choices the past two weeks and that those choices must have had consequences, shrug. I’m getting back on track though so maybe if I did gain something back I’ll lose it again quick and then some! *crossing fingers*

10 pounds lost

I found out my request for time off at Christmas got approved so the cat and I will be flying home for the holidays, woohoo! Since he is currently giving me the look of death I’m pretty sure he understood when I told him we would be taking a plane together and now he hates me and is plotting my demise. He plots my demise often but so far I’ve managed to elude his assassination attempts lol

On top of my laptop dying my phone is now obsolete, damn you apple! I have an iPhone 4s and I haven’t been able to upgrade the OS on it since apple got to OS8, sigh. Now they are at OS9 and my poor phone, it is just pathetic. I’m going to have to talk to my cell phone provider cause my phone is so not reliable now that it is ridiculous, I hate how the software gets upgraded and it makes the phone you have so old school it can’t work the newest apps or load pages or reliably send / receive texts and email. And yes, I am well aware I am being all “first world problems” but hey, this is an actual problem for me right now and I am fully aware there are people elsewhere with much worse problems, I am vaguely socially aware ya know.

I have gotten hooked on a tv show called Rizzoli & Isles, it is a cop drama with the two main characters being the Chief Medical Examiner Maura Isles and the head homicide Detective Jane Rizzoli. The back and forth between the two main characters is vastly entertaining, and I like that both main characters are accomplished, educated, strong, females. I’m watching the episodes out of order though lol so one episode everyone is ok, the next someone has died, or better yet, one of the characters is pregnant then all of a sudden she isn’t – but not because she lost it, just because the episodes they are airing are jumping all over the place lol I may have to make an effort to go back to the first season and start from the beginning cause sometimes I am kinda confused lol

Rizzoli-Isles-

Ok, well, the act of writing has made me think of other things to write about but I think I’ll put them as individual posts since this is long enough. Cheerio! πŸ™‚

UK Treats

8 Oct

I was downtown Wednesday for a hair appointment, which I would post a picture of since I am enjoying the cut but it was pouring rain and even with my umbrella the hair do didn’t last until I got home, sigh. Trust me to pick the one day all week with rain to take transit! lol

Anyways! When I was downtown I passed this little Scottish/English Shop that is never open when I am in the area and lo and behold it was open! I didn’t really have any reason to go in, but I thought why not, it’ll be full of things I enjoy even if they are all overpriced and completely unnecessary.

Soooo yeah, overpriced? Yup! Did I end up buying? That’d be another yup! lol πŸ˜›

2015-10-07 18.37.34

In my defence I did not buy the Snowballs, the shop clerk gave them to me as a present for buying the other items. Which I would say was very nice of him but I figure he probably had too many in stock and was trying to get rid of them, why else would he give away free stuff? I maaaaay have eaten one, strictly out of curiosity of course and it was good, I enjoyed it, depending on the cost I would maybe buy them next time which now that I think of it may be why he gave them to me for free this time, to get me hooked! He is a Snowball pusher! *shock*

I have resisted the Yorkie chocolate bar but am super excited for when I do eat it lol I’m saving it as a treat, not sure what I will have to do to earn it but I’ll come up with something, I’m good at finding reasons to eat chocolate lol

I tried the Dandelion & Burdock drink this evening, I thought I liked it but I was wrong. Let’s just leave it at that shall we? Okay fine, I can’t leave it at that, it was soooooo sweet!

As for the candies they are a variety of flavours, I should have taken a picture of the display so I wouldn’t forget the flavours cause oops, I can’t remember them all lol The yellow and pink ones are rhubarb and lemon…that’s all I can remember and since I’m not going to power eat through the candies so I can tell you what all the flavours are we shall all have to remain in suspense. Cause ya know, I’m sure all of you reading this are just dyyyyying to know the flavours of the candies lol πŸ˜‰

I went in hoping to find certain treats but sadly they didn’t have them, which reeeeeally, is probably for the best since none of the stuff I was hoping they’d have are healthy, or low calorie, or would remotely fit in to my eating plan but hey, a girl can dream, *big epic sigh*

Let’s Celebrate!

8 Oct

I got some super exciting, happy dance worthy, wOOt! wOOt! news this evening and I just haaaad to celebrate! But what to do? It is a Thursday evening, no way was I going to be able to drag a friend out to do something, and really, I didn’t want to get out of my sweat pants lol Instead I baked! This would make three weeks in a row…oh the calories I am creating in my kitchen! lol πŸ˜›

None of the baking is for me, I ate one cookie to test them, one! I gotta say, it was tasty, Mmm!

I made Soft Pumpkin Cookies, they are supposed to have a glaze on them but I opted out of that because well, they are good without the glaze and why add calories when they aren’t needed?

2015-10-08 23.05.18

The recipe lied to me though, it said the batch of cookies would be 35, it made 21. Quite the difference! I made them the size the recipe said to so I’m not sure how the writer of the recipe got 35 cookies when I only got 21, shrug. It is a little annoying because I am taking them to work tomorrow and there won’t be enough for everybody which is unfortunate. It’ll have to be a first come first served type of thing I guess.

Oh, I also made another batch of Chocolate Chip Banana Bread but I’m not putting a picture of that up since it is the same as the batch I made last week so nothing new there. Well, I left the walnuts out this time because the group this batch is for has people in it with nut allergies and I don’t really want to be responsible for killing someone with my baking, talk about earning a lot of bad karma! πŸ˜‰ teehee

More Baking!

2 Oct

Someone who wanted to try a brownie last week but couldn’t (because they all got eaten lol) was joking with me about what I was going to bring to work this week. For some reason I said Banana Bread. Throughout the rest of my work week they periodically reminded me that I said I was bringing Banana Bread and I feel that if I don’t take it to work tomorrow I may be letting that person down.

Never let down a senior citizen, you don’t know how much more time you will have with them and you might not have a chance to make it up to them! And frankly, that goes with anybody, not just seniors, cause who knows what horrible thing might happen tomorrow?

Well this started heading towards a dark place rather quickly lol

Back to Banana Bread!

It is a standby for me, I can practically make it in my sleep, the only thing that ever stops me from making it is having some dead bananas in the freezer. Lucky for me I had enough dead bananas, and then some!, so banana bread became a thing in my kitchen today.

Mmm!

One batch makes two loaves and as always I added walnuts to one loaf. Personally I love walnuts in my banana bread but not everybody does so I leave one loaf without, cause ya know, I am accommodating like that lol πŸ˜‰

My Banana Bread also has chocolate chips in it, always, no matter what! That is one thing I will not alter because frankly, chocolate makes everything better! πŸ˜›

So yeah, my apartment smelled delicious today lol I ate one slice for quality control purposes and I must say, it turned out quite well. I know people shouldn’t say things like that about their own baking but it did turn out well so what else am I supposed to say? Not like I am going to lie and say it ended up tasting gross lol

I gave a couple of slices to a friend this evening and the rest is packed away in tupperware containers waiting for me to take to work tomorrow.

My co-workers are gonna hate me lol two weeks in a row bringing in goodies, I’ll be the one blamed if they gain weight! lol

Brownie Strawberry Trifle

3 Jul

This my friends is not a healthy living friendly desert…consider this a fair warning! πŸ˜‰ It is however quite tasty sooooo if you’re willing to eat outside the boundaries of whatever diet, or healthy living plan, or life change you are currently following than read on!

You will need:

– brownies (yeah, you’ve gotta make those)

– 1L (12oz) Cool Whip (I used Light Cool Whip)

– 1 135g (5oz) package of Vanilla Instant Pudding

– 2lbs fresh strawberries

Instructions:

Bake brownies. You can use your own recipe or a brownie mix, whatever floats your boat.

Slice the strawberries, seems fairly obvious and yet it is mentioned in the original recipe so I thought I’d tack it on here also.

Make the pudding, once it is set fold in the Cool Whip. You’ll need a large bowl for this. It makes what the original recipe refers to as a custard. This is not technically a custard, duh, but who am I to judge the original recipe person? Well, ok, I am judging a little bit lol

Once the brownies are completely cooled cut them in to small pieces, I tore the brownies in to small pieces instead of cutting them because that’s how I roll over here. I’m sure Martha Stewart would not approve. πŸ˜›

Put half the cut brownies in the bottom of your trifle bowl, pour half the custard on top of the brownies and spread it around so all the brownies are covered. Layer half the strawberries on top of the custard. You can stand up some of the cut strawberries around the edge of the dish so it looks prettier, ya know, if you want, no pressure to make this presentable or anything…

Repeat the layering. Brownies, custard than strawberries.

The original recipe also wanted you to melt chocolate chips and drizzle it on top, I chose not to do that because I thought it would be sweet enough and I was right. Not saying it wouldn’t be an extra level of delish with the melted chocolate, and I’m sure it would look even more impressive but I liked how it looked with the fruit on top, easily seen, not covered by anything and hey, I’m making it so I get to make these oh so important decisions. Ooooooh the power of me!

Here is how it turned out…

Chocolate Brownie and Strawberry Trifle

Chocolate Brownie and Strawberry Trifle

I added some raspberries to the strawberry topping because who doesn't like raspberries?

I added some raspberries to the strawberry topping because who doesn’t like raspberries?

Side view!

Side view!

A couple side notes:

– Keep the trifle in the fridge until it is time to serve it, otherwise the custard melts and stops looking so pretty.

– I doubled the amount of brownies I made, so two batches instead of one, which turned out to be a good thing because it took one entire batch for each brownie layer. Depending on the size of your trifle bowl you may also need to make two batches of brownies.

– I did not double the amount of Cool Whip or Vanilla Pudding used. I realized once it was too late I probably should have, especially when I had poured half of it on for the first layer and I was struggling to get all the brownie covered. You’d never know it from the picture though, shrug. When eating the trifle the ratio of chocolate to custard was a good one so flavour wise it turned out I didn’t need to double the Cool Whip and Vanilla Pudding, just be prepared to use slices of strawberries to help cover thin custard coverage areas.

– I did not use the entire 2 pounds of strawberries, despite my going to all the effort to clean, and destem, and slice them. I used a good chunk of them, as you can see. The way the hidden layer is placed is identical to the top layer, only minus the raspberries so not like I skimped in the middle with my strawberry usage. But hey, rejoice, this just means extra strawberries for you!

– I added the raspberries on a whim because they were on sale and because they are a personal favourite. I had originally intended to make a little design with them but I was running late so I just popped some on where there was space between strawberry slices. I didn’t get to use them all so oh gee, I have leftovers of those also, what a shame! πŸ˜‰

– The original recipe is from an American site so the quantity of everything was a little off to the size of things here, except for the strawberries because, well, I don’t know why to be honest. Normally I do all the conversions before I go shopping so I know what size packaging to look for in my grocery store but I didn’t this time so I winged it. It turned out ok.

– I would recommend making the brownies the night before, I made them the morning of and it seriously cramped my style. I had everything else all ready to go and I was stuck waiting for the stupid brownies to cool completely, it took forever and that’s with me living in a basement suite apartment!…In case you don’t get the significance of that, my place is always cold, it will be 29C (84.2F) outside and I will be inside wearing a sweater and sweat pants with a little throw over my feet. It’s like I live in the place that summer forgot.

I calculated the Weight Watchers Points Plus points for the trifle, a portion of my trifle comes out to 12 points. If you make it I would recommend calculating your own points because you will be using your own brownie recipe, and may be using only one batch of brownies, or maybe you doubled the amount of custard, or perhaps you decided to drizzle the melted chocolate, who knows! Β Then there is always the trifle bowl size to take in to account…The point is this strikes me as a desert where every person’s version will be slightly different which means so will the nutritional information be. But that’s ok! This is a super easy recipe that is also super easy to personalize, which makes it great for everyone, enjoy! πŸ™‚

Oh, the original recipe can be found here

Nowhere Near Wordless Wednesday

Nutritional info from the Protein Bistro Box from Starbucks

Nutritional info from the Protein Bistro Box from Starbucks

Breakfast and lunch today were from Starbucks, I don’t recommend this lol. I grabbed the Protein Bistro Box, along with a Grande Soy Chai Latte and while the drink is tasty, and the food alright, it wasn’t as good a breakfast as my normal egg, two slices of turkey bacon, apple and cup of tea, shrug.

In my Bistro Box I had: 1 hard boiled egg, 3 slices of apple, 9 seedless grapes, 1 slice of white cheddar cheese, 1 piece of bread with fruit in it (raisins) and 1 packet of peanut butter. I did not eat the bread or the peanut butter (even though I desperately wanted the peanut butter because I miss peanut butter!) I shouldn’t have eaten the cheese either, what with it being dairy and I’m supposed to be non-dairy right now buuuuut I kinda forgot, lol, I’m not even lying, I was eating, knew I wasn’t going to eat the bread or peanut butter but didn’t even clue in about the cheese, oops! And yes, sometimes I am just that dumb πŸ˜›

A little farther along....

A little farther along….

Ok, granted my attempt at knitting looks pathetic so far but hey! I’m just learning (my little sister is teaching me πŸ™‚ ) and she is uber patient with me which is good as I kinda suck lol I’m actually farther along then that second pic shows I just didn’t take another picture of it yet

What I ordered for dinner, it says right there it is “very healthy”!

What my dinner actually looked like

What my dinner looked like

I had a dragon boat team meeting that was held at a Japanese Restaurant. We go there often and usually I order sushi but it is cold out tonight and I wanted something warm. I was also trying to find something I’d be able to calculate the nutritional information for afterwards lol According to the sign the Chicken Mizutaki is “very healthy foods” and the list of ingredients sure sounds healthy so I figured why not? Lemme tell ya, healthy? Maybe. Tasty? Nope! Most bland meal ever! It was a clear, tasteless broth, with noodles, tofu, chicken, one slice of carrot and a bunch of cabbage in it. Oh, and one shitaki mushroom, that’s the dark spot in the pic in the left side of the bowl. I was planning on avoiding as much of the noodles as possible but I was super hungry, the meal was super not filling and I ended up eating noodles because the alternate was eating a pathetic amount of vegg, some tofu and some chicken. sigh. I checked nutritional information for this dish once I got home, I found information for a version of it that actually had more variety of vegg in the dish so I know the info isn’t quite accurate but it is the best I’ve got. All in all, not horrible calorie wise but I wouldn’t order it again. Just because something is healthy doesn’t mean it has to be tasteless! I’d rather something with flavour next time thank-you-very-much. πŸ™‚

A new tea for my "collection"

A new tea for my “collection”

I am venturing in to the world of flavoured tea. My outlook on tea is this, flavoured tea is not tea, it is a flavoured hot drink, but not tea. Tea is tea. The end. However, I am trying to branch out and this is what I bought. I chose this because I already know I like chai and, well, that’s pretty much the only reason. lol I’m fairly certain there is no caffeine in this tea but I could be wrong, maybe I should google before I go any further…

…alright, so I just googled and I am wrong, crap. My chai tea does have caffeine, sigh. The whole reason I am trying flavoured teas is due to my inability to go to sleep like a normal person. I drink Tetley tea like it is going out of style! I love my cuppa Tetley. πŸ™‚ I have it as my first drink of the day to wake me up, my last drink of the day to calm me down and multiple times throughout the day just because. My theory was swap out my last cup of the day with a non-caffeinated tea and maybe that would help me get to sleep easier…it’s worth a shot at least! I’ve already had a cup of the chai tea this evening and it tasted good, not as good as Teltey, and not as good as a Chai Latte (massive weakness of mine!) but good. Even though it turns out it does have caffeine so it won’t work as part of my new found plan it won’t go to waste, I like it enough I’ll keep drinking it, though I miiiiight not replace it once it is gone, we shall see!

Well, that is the end of my pictures so I guess that means it is the end of my post! lol πŸ™‚

In a nutshell, I am following a super strict eating plan (and exercising, duh lol) in an attempt to lose a pant size by Dec 22/13. I won’t go in to all the details about why etc cause I’d just be repeating what is written on the actual challenge page…just know that it is for vanity’s sake lol and it is reeeeally strict! Worth it, but strict.

Well, today I made plans to go see a movie with a friend. I was so proud, I purposefully suggested the later movie time so I would have no excuse to not exercise. No way I could run out of time in my day if I wasn’t meeting him until 8:45pm right? Right! πŸ™‚

Thing is, I kiiiinda ran out of time, not to exercise! I went to Zumba! But to eat…oops? *cringe face* Don’t judge! It wasn’t on purpose!

I bet Cookie Monster never forgot to eat...

I bet Cookie Monster never forgot to eat…

I had a late brekkie (cause I slept in lol) then did stuff around the apartment for a while, went to Zumba, came home, made a protein shake, showered, groomed and went out. Somewhere in there I swear I intended to eat dinner, ya know, after Zumba but before going out buuuuuut it didn’t happen…

The boo-boo, if you hadn’t guessed, was that I was ridiculously under my calories for the day, especially when you factor in how many I burned while exercising. I’m already eating a small-ish amount of calories daily (1010 to be exact) but I dropped down to a number distressingly smaller than that, sigh.

So now I’m sitting here, typing away at 3 am, though the time stamp on the post won’t show that cause I always alter them before I publish a post lol, hungry, though not as hungry as I expected to be, but knowing I am not going to eat anything because I am about to go to bed. Poor tummy, it must think I hate it…

Oh, in case you were wondering, what did I do that filled in the time I should have spent cooking then eating my dinner, it was my nails. That’s right! I was doing my nails, lost track of time, then realized I didn’t have time to cook anything anymore. Some days I am such a girl lol πŸ˜›

I’m going to tell you my calories for the day, are you sitting down? Take a deep breath and try not to think too badly of me ok? I ate 506 calories, I burned 361 calories, which leaves me with a net calorie amount of…144…*braces for accusing glares and lectures*

I didn’t mean to! Honest! If I wan gonna purposefully starve myself do you think I’d be admitting it on here?! *rolls eyes*

I just know I’m gonna wake up hungry tomorrow, sigh, which will suck. Plus, all day tomorrow I will have a thought in my head that goes something like this “sure, I shouldn’t eat that, but I ate so little yesterday surely today I can splurge a little?” Horrible! It will be a horrible tempting thought that I will have to resist so as not to screw up but in the opposite direction of the way I screwed up today. Oy! lol

On that note I am going to go to bed since I have to be up early-ish, I will probably dream about food since right now, that’s pretty much all I am thinking about lol Pancakes to be specific, I am really wanting pancakes right now, which is ridiculous cause I couldn’t eat those even if I was going to eat something…maybe I’ll have them for my birthday breakfast…hmm, something to think about and possibly look forward to! lol

Insanity: Day 4

18 Jul

Soooooo, I’m getting worse lol Not on purpose! πŸ˜›

I was up early-ish to meet a friend for breakfast, we went to a diner type place and I actually wanted some form of meat…I never want to eat meat! lol It’s not that I don’t like meat, I do, I just, shrug, I dunno, don’t make it a priority I guess?

The only problem with wanting meat at breakfast time is pretty much everywhere only serves pork products for breakfast, what’s with that?? I asked, and this place didn’t have any turkey (or any other animal) alternatives so there went my fantasy of eating some form of meat. I ended up ordering french toast, yeah I know right? Way to dive right off the deep end with the meal plan! lol *rolls eyes* It was super yummy (duh!) but a lot smaller then I expected and it left me feeling hungry, there were three pieces of bread (small pieces but whatever), I’ve never still been hungry after eating a diner/restaurant breakfast of french toast (or pancakes), I don’t know if I was still hungry because of the craving some form of meat thing or because the bread was smaller than what I am used to or what…

After breakfast I was meeting up with my lil sister, we did a quick errand (I bought a blender! yah! an on sale blender! super yah!) then hung out at a Tim Horton’s cause that is what she wanted to do. I went from bad to worse with my food for the day, I got an Iced Cap (made with milk, not cream) and…a donut *hangs head in shame* We stayed there for hours hanging out and catching up (she’s been on vacation so we haven’t seen each other in weeks). Right when we were leaving I decided to buy a chicken wrap thingy because I knew by the time I got home I would only have enough time to grab my dragon boat gear and rush to practice and I figured it was better to eat something that finally had some meat in it then power through practice on a donut lol

It was a great practice, we race this coming weekend so we worked on some race pieces and had some endurance training. πŸ™‚

After practice I rushed home cause I have a hundred an one things to do, a big thing I had to do was prep/cook food for tomorrow…oh yeah, and exercise!

You didn’t think I forgot to do my Insanity workout today did ya? Silly! πŸ˜›

Today was Cardio Recovery Day. I actually kinda liked it. πŸ™‚ Twisted huh? It was mostly stretching, yoga style. Think deep stretching, think kinda painful stretching lol There were a couple where I actually couldn’t hold the stretch for the full time cause my muscles were all “nuh-uh you crazed nutball!” lol Some of the stretches you had to really focus on your balance, I learned quickly to face away from the tv because if I am looking at the movement on the tv while trying to hold my balance on one foot I lose my balance super fast! lol πŸ˜› Also, some of the exercises you are basically folded in half so you can’t see the tv but then he says to move in some way and I don’t understand his explanation so I had to get out of the position to see what he was doing, it was annoying because then I missed out on some of the reps watching what he was doing then getting back in to position so I could try. This has been happening with every work out so far so I figure the more I get used to the program the fewer times this will happen, I hope!

I can normally do this stretch no problem...but not while watching the tv!

I can normally do this stretch no problem…but not while watching the tv!

The only food I ate today that is part of the meal plan was the Protein Pizza Muffin, it is basically one whole grain english muffin topped with 1/4 Cup tomato sauce, 1/4 Cup mozza cheese and 2 oz grilled chicken. I was supposed to eat it with a side of broccoli but I don’t have any and frankly, it is late and I didn’t want anymore food, shrug. I had a little under the 2 oz of chicken because I cooked my second to last chicken breast thinking it would be enough for my meal tonight and one of the meals I prepped for tomorrow but when I was part way through weighing out the diced pieces for the Pizza Muffin I realized it wouldn’t be big enough for both meals to have the correct amount. I figured, split it as close to even as I could eyeball and get a little under 2 oz chicken in each of the two meals. Better that than one meal getting the full amount and one getting nowhere near, right?

I figured out that it is waaaay easier if all (or most) of my food for the day is prepped and or cooked the day prior. If I had food already prepped for today then I would have been able to grab something that was part of the meal plan when I ran home to get my dragon boat gear instead of buying a turkey wrap thing that I had no control over the contents of. With that in mind, I have made 2 of my five meals for tomorrow, and have items for two others (meals I will be eating at home) beside each other and ready to be used. Tomorrow is going to be a super busy rushed day so hopefully this prep work pays off! *crosses fingers* πŸ™‚
