Christmas Market Season

25 Nov

Woohoo! Christmas Market season is upon us, and I love it!

Last weekend I went to an indoor Christmas Market in Abbotsford with a friend and had a lovely time. I meant to take more pictures than I did but oh well, least I managed to take some! lol πŸ˜›

Now obviously I bought a bunch of stuff, I mean c’mon, what else is a Christmas Market for? But I can’t say what I bought since all but one item is a present for people and those people read this blog. Can’t be giving away Christmas secrets now! lol You’ll just have to trust me that the booths held a lot of interesting items and there were plenty of great things to spend your hard earned dollars on. πŸ™‚

The Christmas Markets I have been to in the past have always been outside, in the cold, in the dark, and while they are lots of fun and have plenty of atmosphere there is something to be said for wandering around indoors and not worrying about your freezing cold feet or drinking endless cups of apple cider all in an attempt to keep your hands warm lol I did kinda miss the cider though… πŸ˜‰

This market was better than Costco when it came to food samples, which I was not expecting! I mean seriously, pretty much every booth that was selling food had food samples and oh man did my friend and I eat our fill! I didn’t eat dinner that evening because I was still stuffed when I got home lol I had some salmon, some chicken and rice with a homemade sauce on it, mango chocolate that tasted only of mango so I’d never have guessed it was chocolate, various flavours of balsamic vinegars (and of course the bread I dipped in them), lychee flavoured honey, as well as a cinnamon flavoured honey (the cinnamon one was better, imo), ummm…oh! There was this disgusting gluten free, sugar free, vegan pumpkin pie and a gluten free, sugar free, vegetarian “buttercream icing” (that had no butter, no milk/cream and no sugar). Both those were at a booth being run by a lady promoting her gluten free, sugar free, vegetarian cookbook. Sorry but I like sugar, and gluten, and animal products. Besides, instead of sugar she was using stevia and there was a weird, lingering, artificial taste, ick. And why in the world would she call her icing Buttercream Icing when it is not? It was a lime and coconut icing that was not even close to being similar to a buttercream icing…that sucker needs a new name lol

There was more food I am just blanking on it right now. Since I thought this market would be like the ones I have gone to before I had imagined myself wandering the booths and at some point buying a meal but nibbling my way through samples was way more fun, even though it became almost impossible to track in any way how many calories I ate, but oh well, guess what happens at a Christmas Market stays at a Christmas Market! teehee

I Should Be Drunk…

26 Oct

I had a craptastic day lol It was one of those days that starts off ok and you think “sure, it is early on a Monday but things are cool, I can roll with this” and then boom! The day fully hits ya and it is a doozy, ugh.

It wasn’t one big thing that happened that made it harsh, it was a bunch of little things and a never ending line of people wanting something. One of those days that for every 3 things you accomplish 10 more pop up and it just seems like you are a hamster on a wheel, moving fast but going nowhere.

It is not a fun feeling.

By the end of the day all I wanted to do was drink lol which is very unlike me! But yeah I just kept thinking this is a day that is meant to end with some form of cold, alcoholic drink.

And yes, before you judge, I know that isn’t a healthy way to deal with stress *rolls eyes*

I got waylaid from my plans to go home and drink alone by a friend who needed to run a fun errand and asked me if I wanted to come along. I said yes because I know she just sold her car and is still adjusting to taking transit everywhere and I thought I’d do her a favour and save her the multiple bus trips she would have to take.

On the way to pick her up I stopped to fill my suv’s gas tank and popped in to a Tim Horton’s and got us each a Pumpkin Spice Muffin – she was having a bad day also and I figured an awesome Timmy’s muffin could only make things better lol πŸ˜›

Our fun errand was hitting up a Toys R Us. Yes, two grown ass adults who do not have children were going shopping at Toys R Us. Oh, and not only did we linger and have a blast I hit every button on every noisy toy I could and basically made the store come alive with sound! There is a reason people don’t go to stores like that with me but jokes on my friend cause she didn’t know! Bwahahahaha! πŸ˜‰

She had an actual mission for what she was looking for, I had a vague thought about checking out the dinosaur toys to see if there was something I thought my youngest nephew might want for Christmas. She found what she was looking for. I didn’t see any interesting dinosaurs but I did find this…

Its Toothless! Awwww!

Its Toothless! Awwww!

Its Toothless! From the movie How To Train Your Dragon (1 & 2). He is sooooooo cute! I’ve always had a fondness for this little cutie and when we were wandering the store I saw this little figurine, it was only $6 so I decided to treat myself and buy it. Sure it seems like a silly thing to treat myself with but it made me smile, every time I look at it it makes me grin and if making me happy isn’t a good reason to buy something then what is?

In the end we spent an hour and a half meandering through Toys R Us, which surprised us when we realized it, which wasn’t until we were at the till and we discovered there was practically nobody else in the store, only one till was open, and it was so quiet all the staff were congregating and chatting, lol. Oops? πŸ˜›

Such a better way to spend my evening! In the company of a good friend, pushing endless buttons so I could make alllllll the toys make noise, and bringing home an adorable Toothless. Much better than going home after work and having a drink, or two! πŸ™‚

UK Treats

8 Oct

I was downtown Wednesday for a hair appointment, which I would post a picture of since I am enjoying the cut but it was pouring rain and even with my umbrella the hair do didn’t last until I got home, sigh. Trust me to pick the one day all week with rain to take transit! lol

Anyways! When I was downtown I passed this little Scottish/English Shop that is never open when I am in the area and lo and behold it was open! I didn’t really have any reason to go in, but I thought why not, it’ll be full of things I enjoy even if they are all overpriced and completely unnecessary.

Soooo yeah, overpriced? Yup! Did I end up buying? That’d be another yup! lol πŸ˜›

2015-10-07 18.37.34

In my defence I did not buy the Snowballs, the shop clerk gave them to me as a present for buying the other items. Which I would say was very nice of him but I figure he probably had too many in stock and was trying to get rid of them, why else would he give away free stuff? I maaaaay have eaten one, strictly out of curiosity of course and it was good, I enjoyed it, depending on the cost I would maybe buy them next time which now that I think of it may be why he gave them to me for free this time, to get me hooked! He is a Snowball pusher! *shock*

I have resisted the Yorkie chocolate bar but am super excited for when I do eat it lol I’m saving it as a treat, not sure what I will have to do to earn it but I’ll come up with something, I’m good at finding reasons to eat chocolate lol

I tried the Dandelion & Burdock drink this evening, I thought I liked it but I was wrong. Let’s just leave it at that shall we? Okay fine, I can’t leave it at that, it was soooooo sweet!

As for the candies they are a variety of flavours, I should have taken a picture of the display so I wouldn’t forget the flavours cause oops, I can’t remember them all lol The yellow and pink ones are rhubarb and lemon…that’s all I can remember and since I’m not going to power eat through the candies so I can tell you what all the flavours are we shall all have to remain in suspense. Cause ya know, I’m sure all of you reading this are just dyyyyying to know the flavours of the candies lol πŸ˜‰

I went in hoping to find certain treats but sadly they didn’t have them, which reeeeeally, is probably for the best since none of the stuff I was hoping they’d have are healthy, or low calorie, or would remotely fit in to my eating plan but hey, a girl can dream, *big epic sigh*

Vacation Talk!

9 Sep

I went on vacation for two weeks and recently got back. I had intended to blog while on vacation but yeah, that soooo didn’t end up happening lol It was a simple trip back to Alberta to visit my family and friends, you know, the ones I left behind when moving to BC. πŸ˜‰

Instead of making multiple posts about the trip I’ll see if I can condense everything in to one post…or maybe two…

The cat came with me so instead of flying we had ourselves a 13 hour road trip through the lovely Canadian mountains then through the lovely Canadian prairies. Striker, the cat, spent the first 45 minutes of the drive loudly expressing his displeasure over his forced confinement in his carrier as well as being manhandled out to the suv. I took a book on cd (from the library) to listen to and he was so loud I had to turn the cd off because I couldn’t hear the narrator! He eventually stopped meowing at me and decided a better use of his time was to pout…for approx 12 hours…

This is what a pouting cat looks like.

This is what a pouting cat looks like.

When he wasn’t sitting on the floor under my legs he was sitting in his carrier with his face squashed against the mesh side ignoring me. Blatantly ignoring me.

I have two nephews and I like to take each one of them to hang out one-on-one.

My first day there I took the older nephew (he’s 14) horseback riding. He agreed to go but he wasn’t really feeling the whole riding horse thing, he’s such a trooper! πŸ™‚

Giddy up!

Giddy up!

After the trail ride we went to a movie (Fantastic 4) and dinner (food court). I tried to get him to go to a real restaurant but there is a pasta place in the mall he loves and I’d rather he eat something he really wanted than drag him somewhere he doesn’t like.

I went to a place called Freshii and had an amazing rice bowl called Pangoa…

Pangoa from Freshii

Pangoa from Freshii

Imagine my surprise and horror when I got home and found the nutritional information online for this dish, it has 900 freakin calories!!! There is brown rice, grilled chicken, beans, various veggies and some bbq sauce but as you can see not a lot of any one ingredient so where all those calories came from I do not know. I do know that I won’t be ordering that ever again, even though it was tasty.

The next day I went for brunch with my mom, we went to Tutti Frutti and I had a lovely vegetarian omelette and one slice of Maple Crisp crunchy french toast. Yes you read that right, crunchy french toast! Mmm!

Crunchy French Toast

The omelette was a tad odd, IMO, because it was open not folded or rolled but it was tasty and really that is all that matters lol

My mom got the Casa Blanca which isΒ French toast topped with fresh fruit & coated with delicious English cream only she got the cream on the side so she could decide how much of it she ate. Smart lady! πŸ™‚

Later that day I guest paddled with a dragon boat team called The Raunchy Rodents. They practice on the river and have a freakishly short training season because winter is a long and cold season there, can’t really practice on the river when it is frozen! lol I had a great time, they are a fun bunch! πŸ™‚ They had about half of their team at that practice due to a variety of circumstances which kinda made me feel better about taking a spot on the boat, I would have hated to be an extra body if all their team showed for practice.

The Raunchy Rodents - well, about half of them lol

Some of us went out after practice for a drink and a nibble, we went to a local pub called Duggan’s Boundary Irish Pub and had a fun time. πŸ™‚ The brunch I had earlier with my mom powered me for the whole day, though I did cave and get some Potato Pancakes cause uh hello, how could I not? lol

The next day was a big day, I took my younger nephew (he is 7 and will proudly tell anyone who asks! lol) to Drumheller to go to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. It is basically the mecca for anyone in to dinosaurs and this little guy is most definitely in his dinosaur phase! It’s a three hour drive there and we spent the entire time talking about dinosaurs and life and music and playing pretend, it was a highly entertaining drive lol

Little hand, big footprint.

Little hand, big footprint.

I was abandoned 20 minutes in to our arriving at the museum so he could participate in a Dino Dig, basically he got to go be a paleontologist for 90 minutes while I wandered around doing nothing of much interest because adults aren’t allowed on the expedition…well, minus the adults running the expedition that is lol He loved it! They went on a 2.5 km hike through the badlands, used real paleontology tools to excavate part of a fossil then learned how to cover it properly and transport it back to the museum. After the day was over he told me everyone should move to Drumheller because why would anyone want to live anywhere else? Oh, and we are all supposed to work at the museum…oh boy…lol

If you were thinking he fell asleep on the way home after a long and busy day you my friend are oh-so-wrong. We played pretend and chatted the entire three hour drive home, although I would have been ok with a bit of quiet time because I was tired lol

Let’s see, the next day I got to spend with my friend Nicole, we had plans but they fell through so I ended up going with her while she bought kitty supplies and then adopted two adorable kittens. Yay for kittens! She was going to get just one but the brother and sister were in a cage together and how can anyone be heartless enough to separate siblings?

Meet Solar and Lou.

Meet Solar and Lou.

If I remember correctly the girl is on the left, she is Solar, the boy is on the right and is named Lou. I don’t have a great picture of the two of them because they are super fast and oddly enough don’t much care for staying still…go figure lol We had so much fun playing games with them we basically spent hours playing games and just watching them be silly lol

Sunday (the day after the Day of Kittens!) there was a family brunch where I ate pretty much everything lol I don’t have any group pictures from that day, I do have a bunch of individual pictures but that’s too many to be putting on here. Later that day I went to hang with a friend, Jasmine, and her family which consists of a husband, three kids and a dog. Her brother came over as did her parents, all of which I have known for a loooong time. Her youngest is my Goddaughter and all three kids think of me as an Aunt. They are great, the whole lot of em. πŸ™‚ That evening involved a decent amount of alcohol, lots of reminiscing and my camera being dropped in to a glass of water by the middle child.

sigh.

Yup, there went my camera. 😦 We fished it out immediately and put it in to a bag of rice to dry it out but the camera didn’t recover fully. It could take a picture but the flash was dead and the picture quality was not good after it went swimming. Sadness.

I spent Monday working in my parent’s basement sorting out all the stuff I have stored there lol My parents got the basement renovated and my mom wanted me to go through all my stuff and sort it in to things I am bringing back with me, things I am keeping stored in my parent’s basement and things I am getting rid of. I got rid of quite a bit, brought back a chunk and left the rest in rubbermaid containers on shelves out of my parents way. Aren’t I such a good daughter? πŸ˜‰

Tuesday was a day of awesome, well, sort of. I went to Calgary to ride the Olympic bobsled track and ride the zip line they have. Calgary hosted the 1988 Olympics and now the Olympic Park is a tourist place as well as where current and future Olympians train, for only $99/month I too could have a gym membership there lol

Decked out and ready to bobsled!

Decked out and ready to bobsled!

Ready to zip lining!

Ready for zip lining!

I have gone zip lining many times but this type of harness was new to me. When I was hooked to the line it is like sitting in the most comfortable hammock ever lol It is supposed to be the fastest/longest zip line in North America (if I remember correctly) and there was a parachute I had to deploy to get me slowed down in time for the stop but it wasn’t so fast or long that it was scary, sigh. I think I am done zip lining since it no longer brings out any nervousness or fear. The bobsledding was interesting, there are 14 turns in that track and it was fun but not “oh my god I’m so scared and nervous and can’t wait for the adrenaline rush” type of fun, which was what I was hoping for, shrug.

On the way home from Calgary I stopped at Peters’ Drive In and ordered heaven, seriously, their food is sooooo good! If I lived in Calgary I’d be a thousand pounds because I would always be at Pete’s lol

The most amazing of all amazing burgers and mouth watering onion rings.

The thing about Peter’s is that they have the best milkshakes you will ever find! You choose your flavour and can combine up to three flavours to make your own custom milkshake.

All the flavours available.

All the flavours available.

The rest of the trip was filled with dinner with friends, hanging with other friends, hanging with my parents, helping out with stuff around my parent’s place, basically just enjoying being there. Oh, and shopping! There was some super impressive shopping! I got boots, and flats, and a blazer (so grown up of me don’t ya think?), Christmas presents for various people, random things that I wanted to buy there because there is only 5% tax vs the ridiculously high tax where I live, stupid tax *grumble*

I had a great, fun filled, always doing something, type of trip and I’m really glad I went. πŸ™‚

The drive back went much better, the cat decided I wasn’t subjecting him to some random form of torture and he spent most of the drive sitting on various objects so he had a better view out of the window. The only time he got vocal was when I had to swerve to avoid a deer and the cat did not appreciate that, I’m pretty sure he would have hated the experience of hitting the deer more though so I wasn’t too worried about his bruised feelings lol. πŸ˜›

This is what I woke up to my first morning at my parent's place.

This is what I woke up to my first morning at my parent’s place.

That adorable picture is the site I woke up to my first morning of vacation, there was a head board on the bed I slept in and the cat figured out he can watch me from above…scareeeeeeee! lol πŸ˜‰

This Is Why…

27 May

This is why I can’t have nice things, sigh.

My non-stick frying pan decided it didn’t want to be classified as “non-stick” anymore so it killed an omelette. My revenge was to kick it to the curb and replace it with a nice, shiny, new non-stick frying pan. When I bought the new frying pan I also picked up a new flipping thingy in that pretty teal colour that has overtaken everything – Β I swear you can’t look anywhere without seeing that colour anymore *rolls eyes*. My new items look like this…

My new kitchen stuff

My new kitchen stuff

Well, the new look of the flipping thingy lasted until the second time I used it, then I accidentally rested it against the hot part of the frying pan and melted part of the handle, oops! See, the part you can see in the picture is silicone (I think!), whatever it is it doesn’t melt when touching the hot frying pan, a little farther up though the handle changes and is made out of rubber and that part isn’t quite so immune to heat, sigh.

Not only did I melt part of the handle but the melted part then become one with the edge of the frying pan. It was like two worlds merging in to one.

Luckily the melted plastic came off the frying pan when I washed it and the melted part of the handle doesn’t affect the usability of the flipping thingy (I really need to figure out what that thing is actually called lol) so I can still use both my new kitchen tools. The flipping thingy just doesn’t look quite as nice as it once did, ya know, two days ago *rolls eyes*.

Yesterday

2 Apr

I didn’t write this yesterday because I figured people might think I made it up, April Fools ya know?

I had a perfectly lovely day yesterday, it started with an audition on Granville Island, getting locked in a store and left there for over a half an hour, grabbing a quick bite to eat, running some errands, heating my back, going out for a quick dinner and then to a movie with a friend. See? Lovely day! πŸ™‚

What’s that? Oh, you caught that quick mention about being locked in a store? Yeeeeah, so, that happened. *rolls eyes*

Only to me lol

I was early for my audition and luckily for me someone else was late so they took me in 20 minutes early, I did my thaaaang and thought I’d wander Granville for a bit, hit up the market to buy some fresh produce, maybe poke my nose in to the fun shops. It was a beautiful spring day, sunny and warm with only a bit of wind, I had lots of time left on the parking meter, the day practically begged for a relaxed walk among the shops and who am I to deny that? πŸ˜‰

Well, on my way to the produce market I popped in to a shop called Eklectic Finds (yes, they spelled it like that lol), it features items for your home and garden and since I’m in the process of trying to make my place a little nicer I figured why not check it out?

Store front...

Store front…

So, I walk in there, start looking at items on the shelves, its one of those places that is very small and the shelves are packed so you have to squeeze to get through to the more interesting stuff. Well, I discovered a fatal flaw with that design cause I went in and started looking around and all of a sudden I hear the door close and the sound of a lock being turned,…umm…what the hell? I poke my head around the end of the aisle just in time to see the shop lady turning away and leaving me locked inside the shop. Huh. I started moving around a lot, seeing if I’d set off an alarm even though I didn’t hear her set one but nope, no alarm went off.

I found myself in a bit of a dilemma, I could leave but that would mean the shop door would be unlocked and who knows who might walk in and steal stuff, or I could stay, use the time to finish looking around the store and leave when the shop lady got back. Seemed like an easy choice lol Except the lady took for freakin ever to return! I did what anybody in that situation would do, I posted about it on facebook lol then texted a couple of friends. Just as I was thinking “screw this I’m outta here” and figuring I’d leave a note on the counter she returned and I scared the crap out of her when she walked in and I popped out from the back of the store lol. πŸ˜›

After that I didn’t have nearly as much time left on my parking meter so I grabbed a quick bite to eat, it was a toasted bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers (I don’t know why I like capers so much, they are weird looking, but alas, I do!) then booked it to my suv, oh I maaaaay have also bought one of the most amazing looking brownies ever! Mmm! It was like a super moist cake with frosting, omg yum. And no, I didn’t take pics cause both the bagel and the brownie were put in to to-go containers and didn’t look all that impressive once I got around to opening the containers. The sun kinda melted the cream cheese and the frosting, oops!

After being super classy and eating in my car I scooted off to do errands before meeting up with my friend later on.

All in all, an entertaining day. πŸ™‚

Where I wanted to go...

Where I wanted to go…

why do I think pictures of produce are so pretty? weird...

why do I think pictures of produce are so pretty? weird…

This was the market I wanted to hit up, these are just a couple pictures of it, imagine produce like that, but on a far grander scale, the market is huge, and filled with such yummy fruit, veg, seafood, meat, basically everything lol Ah well, another time!

The Cost Of Getting Pretty

30 Jan

I am not that person that spends huge amounts of money on grooming. Partly because I don’t have extra money to be throwing around and partly because well, why?

So it is weird for me that this week I have spent so much money on things to make me pretty lol

The beginning of this little shopping spree was when I made a “quick” trip to Shoppers Drug Mart. I went in with the intention of getting some advice and walked out with these…

2015-01-29 15.43.11

Anything French is bound to be over priced lol πŸ˜› I was looking for a new moisturizer, sigh. I love the moisturizer I normally use, it works and it is completely affordable but for the past month (or maybe a bit longer) it hasn’t been working quite as well. I’ve been getting dry patches on my face which I was able to deal with (sort of) by applying more moisturizer but whenever I have to put foundation or primer on my face boom! dry patches! and yeah, that can’t be happening when I am going to auditions.

So yeah, I went in with the intention to ask about a new moisturizer figuring I needed something for the next month or so, just to get me through the rest of winter and the lady convinced me I needed not just a new moisturizer but also a moisturizing cleanser. Why am I so susceptible to sales pitches? Arg! She swore that in a week I’d look at my face in the mirror and be all “wow, is that my skin??” I am already thinking that when I look in the mirror because for some weird reason the right side of my face has broken out *rolls eyes* That was not what I wanted! I’m sticking with it, hoping this is just my face getting used to the new product and in a week or so the break out will have cleared up and I’ll have pretty, moisturized skin…my hopes for this aren’t amazingly high but I’m trying to have at least a little lol

Then Wednesday I had a hair appointment, this was planned so not like a surprise I would be spending money there lol They were having a promotion which I got to take part in because I haven’t been in so long, it was a “We Miss You!” promotion, if I spent $50 or more I got $25 off at the till, if I spent $100 or more I got $50 off at the till, not a bad deal! I go to the Aveda Academy for my hair cuts, not because I am some Aveda snob but because if you get a student to cut your hair it only costs $35 and that includes the aromatherapy and massage. πŸ™‚ I knew the $35 haircut wouldn’t allow me to get a discount at the till but my hair was needing to be tidied up at the ends and my bangs had grown out ages ago so it seemed like as good a time as any to book an appointment. When I was there I ended up buying a product for damage control, I blow dry my hair and use a straightener so putting something in my hair to help protect it makes sense. I normally would have found a similar product for cheaper elsewhere but because of the promotion I was able to buy the product and get almost the entire cost of it taken off my bill so I almost got it for free, yay! It looks like this:

2015-01-29 15.43.30

In case you were wondering, this is what they did to my hair, try to look past my bad skin k?

2015-01-30 01.04.40

I have not been able to recreate the curls or get the bangs exactly right but that is because hairdressers have magic that I do not lol My hair before the cut was down to the top of my butt so I feel a little bald right now even though other people still think I have really long hair, it’s all in the perspective I guess.

Lastly, I received something in the mail I ordered weeeeeeeks ago and I have oh so impatiently been waiting for lol I had been watching a YouTube video about beauty products for pale skin, despite how I look in the above picture I am quite pale, not red, and have trouble finding foundations etc that match my skin tone. Well, this one video mentioned a company called Redhead Revolution and omg my life changed! I went to their website, http://www.redheadrevolution.us and couldn’t believe what I was seeing! People who looked like me…models with my skin tone, and freckles, and hair colour…I was seeing makeup and various skin products that are designed for someone like…me…That just doesn’t happen, ever. I got giddy, not even making that up, I actually got giddy and did a little bounce in my chair, I then proceeded to scour that website looking at everything. It was amazing. *happy sigh* I want to buy it all. πŸ˜‰

I decided cautious optimism was the best way to proceed and I bought a sample bottle of 3-in-1 Love Your Freckles Tinted Moisturizer. I was leery of buying anything that goes on my skin that has any level of tint or colour to it that I couldn’t first test (like how you would at a store) but the website even has a section that helps you figure out your undertones and which shade would be most suited for you. They have a tag line “Makeup for the 2%” and I love it! It makes me feel like I am part of a cute little club instead of the weirdo that doesn’t blend in lol The sample size is only 2 fluid ounces, which meant nothing to me until I got the bottle in the mail, it is super tiny! I’m putting off trying it until I have this whole dry patch thing under control, I don’t want to waste any of this precious little bottle.

For the 2%

For the 2%

So that was basically my week, I feel like I bought huuuuge amounts of beauty products but I suppose compared to a lot of women I barely bought anything lol. Let’s hope they all live up to the hype! πŸ™‚

The Battery Debacle

12 Jun

Alrighty so this past weekend I was supposed to buy a new battery for my stupid scale and then on Tuesday I was going to, *gulp* weigh myself for the first time in years…Years! I was not looking forward to this…

There was a slight delay, than a glitch, and well, it didn’t happen, oops?

I forgot to get the old battery out of the scale Sunday night so I could take it with me to work Monday and buy the battery Monday after work. Perhaps my subconscious at work? πŸ˜‰ I figured oh well, so I’ll buy the battery Tuesday and weigh myself Wednesday, a delay of one day won’t kill me.

One day, ha! πŸ˜›

Tuesday I was out and about, helping a friend with some stuff, we did a quick stop at Superstore and I meandered over to the battery section only to find I wasn’t exactly sure which battery I needed. sigh. I still hadn’t taken the battery out of the scale but I remembered what it looked like from the last time I changed the battery and figured how hard could it be to find that same battery? Turns out I had a 50/5o chance of getting it right and I got it wrong. *rolls eyes* The battery is a round flat disc, but there were two batteries like that…who knew?

Look how similar they are!!

Look how similar they are!!

Wednesday I completely forgot about it, was busy hiking and in general just enjoying my day but I remembered Wednesday night and was determined to weigh myself Thursday morning. I put the new battery on my night side table where I couldn’t miss seeing it when I got up and went to sleep with the sure knowledge I would swap the battery out in the morning and somehow find the courage to step on the scale.

Um, well, nope, it took about 15 minutes or so just to get the cover open so I could get the old battery out and that is when I discovered I bought the wrong replacement battery. They look sooooo similar! I almost opened the package to give the one I bought a try anyways but decided against it, I figured better to go buy the proper one and return this one so I can get my money back. Hey, I’m cheap, don’t judge! πŸ˜‰ lol

No way was I not going to eat before going out to do my errands and when I weigh myself I follow some simple but unalterable rules:

(1) use the toilet first

(2) ingest nothing beforehand

(3) be naked

(4) hop on the scale before hopping into the shower

(5) put my contacts in, they weigh less than my glasses

Which meant no weigh-in for me today, gee, I’m so upset about that…said no one ever! lol

I managed to finally buy the correct battery today, only took me three freakin days! So tomorrow, barring any kind of weird unforeseeable freak occurrence that will prevent me from getting on the scale (please-oh-please let something happen! *crosses fingers* πŸ˜‰ ) I will be putting that brand new battery in to my evil evil scale and stepping back in to the world of weekly weigh-ins. I have no words to describe how I feel about this but this picture may help give you an idea…

fearI actually prefer weighing in on Tuesdays, or even Wednesdays, but if I don’t get my feet on that scale sooner rather than later I may never do it so Friday morning it is! I may switch to a Tuesday or Wednesday weigh-in next week though, we’ll see just how horrible Fridays weigh-in is and see if I can convince myself to get back on to the scale before the next Friday rolls around lol

New PFD

3 Apr

You know that excited feeling you have when you get something new that you’ve wanted for a long time? That happy-dance-big-smile-want-to-tell-everyone feeling?

That was me today! πŸ˜€

I finally got my very own PFD!

Thanks to my awesome awesome brother who gave me a SportChek/Atmoshphere gift card for Christmas I am now the proud owner of a PFD.

I waited this long to buy it because I had to wait for the store to stock them again, stupid winter sports taking over the store lol I was that annoying person who called every week, sometimes more than once a week, asking if they got the new stock of PFDs in yet. I almost got to stalker level…if a person could stalk a PFD that is… πŸ˜›

Want to see it? Well of course you do! lol

It's miiiiiiine!

It’s miiiiiiine!

It is Salus brand, made in Canada and all black – as you can see. πŸ™‚ I specifically wanted an all black PFD because (1) I hate all the colours most PFDs are and (2) this way it doesn’t matter what colour my team jersey is I won’t clash. Hey now, don’t judge cause I think of these things lol Oh, and (3) I always prefer black. πŸ™‚

I wore it for practice tonight and it got fully drenched by the pouring rain, I’d say that means it is officially broken in lol It was comfy, it didn’t get in the way of my stroke technique and I’m sure if I’d fallen out of the boat it would have kept me afloat so yay for it passing it’s first test! πŸ™‚

Oh, and a little happy sidenote, I exercised twice today, twice! I went for an hour and a half walk with a friend early afternoon. I forgot to turn on my Runtastic App so I’m not sure how far we walked but we kept a steady decently fast pace, no meandering! I’d guess around 5km, maybe more, which is ok. Then of course the dragon boat practice which was two hours of technique work and cardio.

All in all, it was a good day. πŸ™‚

The Ups and Downs Of Shopping

19 Feb

Shopping, ugh, I have such a love-hate thing going on when it comes to shopping. As a Β girl I am supposed to love! love! love! shopping for pretty much everything buuuuuut I don’t. πŸ˜›

The things I love to shop for? Gear for my various sports/activities, books, shoes, jewellery, purses, techie stuff…but since I don’t have a lot of money I usually end up buying stuff for my sports/activities and shoes lol

Things I hate shopping for? Clothes.

Yes, I admit it, I am a female who hates shopping for clothes…well, unless it’s clothes to be worn when exercising, hiking, dragon boating, running, basically sports clothes. But clothes for work or general socializing? Nuh-uh, don’t like it.

I’m never happy with what I look like hence hating to shop for clothes.

For the last couple months or so I’ve been oh so amazingly unhappy with my clothes. Every time I get dressed for work or to go hang with friends I feel ugly. I don’t like how my pants fit, I don’t like how they look, they make me miserable and self-conscious and eager to return home and put on some sweats or yoga pants. My tops I’m ok with, it’s the pants that are a problem.

I was convinced it is because I am too big…huh, I’m trying to find a nice way to say this, *deep breath* I was convinced I felt this way in my pants because I was too fat for them. I wasn’t when I bought them, they fit great, so obviously if I don’t fit perfectly in them anymore it must be because I got too fat for them, right? Right. It’s depressing, and made me even less eager to shop than normal. I kept telling myself that if I am so unhappy with how I look in my clothes then stop being a dumb ass, lose the weight I so obviously gained, and fit back in to them. If I ate something I shouldn’t, then felt uncomfortable in my pants I would mentally yell at myself (cause yelling out loud to myself is just weird πŸ˜› ) and basically tell myself my punishment for eating something bad for me was feeling so miserable in my pants. Not the healthiest way to be looking at things…

maybe this should be my new plan? ;)

maybe this should be my new plan? πŸ˜‰

Couple months or so ago I bought two new pair of pants, a pair of jeans and a pair of cords. I bought them both a size up from what all my other pants are because I thought that must be what I needed, a size larger. I’ve been having trouble with both those pairs of pants though because they are too big, after about 20 minutes of wearing them they have become so loose I am constantly having to pull them up – soooo not an attractive thing to be doing. *rolls eyes* and under normal circumstance they’d be donated to a thrift store or relegated to “fat day pants”. Thing is, I don’t own enough pants to be giving any away or wearing certain ones so infrequently.

So I was confused, how could one size fit too snug and the next size up fit way too loose? Then I had a realization…except for those two pants that I bought in the larger size I hadn’t bought pants (except yoga or hiking or dragon boat pants) in three years. THREE YEARS!! I’ve been wearing the same freakin pants for years! No wonder they aren’t fitting properly anymore! They’ve been washed how many times? Worn how many times? Sat in, run in, moved around in, lived in for how long? Oh yeah, that’s right, 3 years.

That little tidbit of info made me feel not quite so bad about how my pants are fitting. Have I changed since I bought them, well yeah, sure I have. But so have the pants. They don’t hold their shape as well as they used to, over time the leg length has shrunk so it’s a good bet the rest of the way they fit has shrunk, they are old, and while I keep my clothes in as good condition as possible they are showing their age. I’d say they are due to be retired.

I decided with this paycheque I would buy myself a pair of pants, maybe two if I could find a good sale somewhere. I had almost convinced myself the shopping might be fun and not horrific since maybe I’m not the monstrous size I feel I must have become since my pants haven’t been fitting me but then reality set in lol Dragon boat season is starting early this year, a whole month earlier and I needed new water proof pants cause mine became un-water proof by the end of last season and while yes, this is a water sport so I should expect to get wet, being on the water at 7:30pm at night in February is damn cold and it’s sensible to wear water proof gear until the weather warms up. No point getting drenched and cold and being sick when you don’t have to be. I was at Mountain Equipment Co-Op, shopping for the water proof pants (which I found, and while I bought the cheapest pair they were by no means cheap, ugh) when I saw some sweet hiking pants on sale for $20. I figured I’d try them on since they were such a great deal and omg they fit beautifully! It’s amazing how good I felt about how I looked when I wore them! I didn’t feel self-conscious or ugly or fat or like I wanted to hide, I felt like I looked good. πŸ™‚ It’s been a looooong time since I’ve felt that. Obviously I bought them. Oh, and the size? The equivalent to the size of the pants that no longer fit me. Weird.

So now I don’t have the money to replace my work/socializing pants because I bought the water proof pants and the hiking pants but the water proof ones are a necessity and the hiking pants were too good a deal to pass up, shrug. Guess I’ll have to keep battling the feelings I get in my three year old pants until I have another paycheque that has some money left over and I can go find some new clothes. If I can hold on to how I felt when trying on the hiking pants then maybe I won’t even mind going shopping for new work/social pants…maybe! πŸ˜‰ lol
