Popeye, gasp, lied to us??

10 Aug

liar liar pants on fire

Oh the betrayal! All those years of being told by Popeye that eating spinach gives you lots of iron and it turns out that’s a lie due to a misplaced decimal. *rolls eyes* The things that get passed through to the general population and then become “nutritional fact” and passed down to the next generations, oy!

I have never actually watched Popeye so maybe he didn’t tell kids to eat spinach cause there is iron in it but he did promote spinach as something to eat lots of – after all, that’s what everyone knows him for. Of course, I linked him with those fake cigarette candies you can (could?) buy that tasted kinda nasty but made you feel cool cause it looked like you had a smoke…hey! at the age of 6 you don’t realize you look stupid instead of cool and neither do your friends when they are all doing the same thing. lol. 😛

Anyways, more of my food research has discovered that spinach isn’t a good source of iron. Spinach has about the same iron content as any other green veggie. Something naughty about spinach is that it  contains oxalic acid which prevents more than 90% of the iron from being absorbed by the body!!! Ack! Spinach does have a good side tho so don’t think all that spinach eating has been in vain! lol. Spinach is a rich source of Vit A, Vit E and several antioxidants, it also has more than a half-day supply of beta-carotene in just a half cup serving. So see, it has ups and downs…like a lot of foods. 😛 In case you are wondering, the idea that spinach contained lots of iron started in 1870 with scientists whose figures weren’t challenged until 1937 when it was discovered spinach actually contained 1/10th of the claimed amount…like I said earlier, the mistake was made by a misplaced decimal point. lol.

Something else you should know about iron, when you do eat it also eat something high in Vit C (like peppers or citrus fruits) because the Vit C increases iron absorption. Most people don’t need to use supplements to get enough iron, we do fine on our own if we eat a healthy veggie rich diet but an iron supplement is recommended for pregnant women, women who are  child bearing age should eat foods high in heme iron (found in lean meats). Men need to be careful, too much iron for them can be dangerous – it has been linked to heart disease and cancer. Oh and my last fun fact about iron, men store more of it then women do in their bodies. Phew, ok, that was a lot of iron stuff, all done!

Today I ate:

2 Weetabix Biscuits = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 cup Knorr Red Pepper Tomato soup = 2 points

1/2 cup mashed yams = 1.5 points

mixed veggies = 0 points

2 triangles Light Laughing Cow cheese = 1 point

1 salmon in dill sauce steak = 3 points

1/4 cup whole wheat couscous = 3 points

corn = 0 points

1 Weight Watchers Smart Ones Double Fudge Cake = 4 points

So far I have eaten 19.5 points today, I will eat a snack in a bit and end up being under my points by half a point which I think is ok. 🙂 The couscous turned out well, I actually put the corn in with the couscous to make it less dry…I used to put marg in it and mix it together to make it less dry but combining it with some veggies is a healthier way to make it moist and it tastes good.

The Smart Ones however was a bit disappointing. sigh. It was stale. How that happened when it’s a frozen cake you thaw I dunno but stale it was. I followed all the instructions for thawing it out…maybe it was in my freezer too long? shrug, ah well, it was still chocolate and you can’t go wrong with that. 😀

Oh the poor poor veggies…

9 Aug

There I was all worried about how I’d deal with 22 points of food on a work day and everything turned out perfect. 🙂 The veggies I took really rounded out my lunch and helped keep me full throughout the day so I wasn’t starved and low in points by dinner time. Yah!

On top of all that I found out that a friend of mine actually reads my blog, hi R!! 😀 lol. I know people read this, hello? I have a stats page but now I have a face and name to put to one of my readers.

Oh and on top of that, lol, I keep getting giddy when I think of my last weigh in which I gotta say, is often. I am not obsessed in a bad away about my weight (at this point anyways-teehee) but I keep thinking of how I am getting lower in weight and how I haven’t been this light in years and what can I say, it makes me grin. I grin even wider when I get dressed and notice how my clothes are fitting differently. It’s not like I need to go shopping for a whole new wardrobe or anything but pants fit looser and so do my hoodies and work shirts. It’s awesome! 😀

me as a food nerd thinking about what else but food? lol

Ok, enough with my gloating, I am just so excited that weight watchers seems to be working I keep concentrating on it, lol, I am becoming a weight nerd! Is there already such a thing or am I the first one? I should start a facebook group…:P

Today I ate:

2 weetabix biscuits = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 1/2 cup strawberries = 1 point

1/2 cup Heinz Maple Flavoured Baked Beans = 2 points

1 piece toast = 1 point

2 triangles Light Laughing Cow cheese = 1 point

mixed raw veggies = 0 points

1 Chicken Breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese = 7 points

grilled veggies = 0 points

1/2 cup mashed yams = 1.5 points

2 Maple cookies = 4 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

That puts me at 21.5 points, I don’t have anything that is half a point and no way am I going over so I will stick with being half under. 🙂

The grilled veggies were not good tonight, they are the same grilled veggies I raved about in yesterdays post only problem with them today is they got burned to a crisp…literally. It’s my fault, they cook at a higher temp for less time then the chicken and I thought if I put them in with the chicken they’d be ok since they were cooking at a lower temp for not a crazy longer amount of time. Unfortunatly, I failed to take in to account that my oven cooks hotter then what it says and well, geez, checking on them to see how they were doing didn’t really cross my mind. Ooops! So some of the veggies were alright but most were charred which is  a pisser cause they are so yummy when cooked properly. Ah well, better luck next time!

The chicken was from M&M’s Meat Shop, it’s a single serving boneless, skinless chicken breast stuffed with broccoli and cheese and battered. You stick it in the oven for 30 mins at 400 degrees and presto! Dinner! It was really good too! Nice and tender, the meat was moist and practically fell apart when you cut it. The filling was really tasty and the batter was light enough to add flavour and texture without making you feel like you’re filling your stomach with fat. All in all, I totally recommend them even if they are 7 points each. 🙂 Just don’t cook your veggies and your chicken breast on the same baking tray at the same time…or if you do, check on the veggies! lol.

A Perfect 22

8 Aug

Today is my second day at 22 points; weekends are either really hard to not mess up my points on or really easy…never just run of the mill. shrug. I think it’s cause I sleep in and just eat whenever I want not when it fits into my work schedule. When left to my own devices I go to extremes, I either eat everything in sight or nothing at all. Since following weight watchers I can’t do that; I have to eat the same amount on the weekends as I do on the weekdays…I still find it hard but losing weight is worth the effort. 🙂 I noticed today that on weekends I am still for the most part eating my food in big sessions instead of small meals throughout the day like all the experts say I am s’posed to do but hey, least I am still eating my points. lol.

I had these really amazing grilled veggies with my dinner today; I got them from M&m’s Meat Shop – the same place I got those salmon steaks from. I wanted to get them earlier in the summer when they first came out but when I noticed them it was right before I was going on vacation so there didn’t seem to be any point in getting them then. Turns out it was a good thing I didn’t get them then cause when I went in to the store yesterday they were on sale cause it’s now end of summer and they are getting new things to replace the grilled veggies. Works for me! There are a mixture of veggies in the package; you just put some on a baking tray, drizzle them with a bit of vegetable oil and stick them in a pre-heated oven for 18 mins…yum! I burned them a little but they were still good. 🙂 I like how they are frozen so I don’t have to rush eating them; I had some today and I am sure I will eat more of them this coming week but if I decide I don’t want to eat any of them for a while it doesn’t matter cause they’ll just sit in my freezer waiting for me. Yah for frozen food! lol

There are two conflicting arguments about veggies; some people say don’t buy frozen cause they lose nutritional value in the freezing process, others say eating frozen is better because they are flash frozen and the nutritional value is retained while the “fresh” veggies we buy at the grocery store have been travelling for who knows how long and everyday they are away from the day they were picked they lose nutrients. I am not a food scientist, I try to research what I hear and wonder about so I can know the facts about what I am doing and make lifestyle changes accordingly but this one I just don’t know. shrug. I keep coming up with conflicting information so I am going to leave the figuring out of this problem to the scientists and continue to eat a combination of fresh and frozen veggies. Seems like a safe bet to me! 🙂

Today I ate:

1/2 cup Heinz Maple Baked Beans = 2 points

1 fried egg = 2 points

2 pcs toast = 2 points

2 tsp margarine = 2 points

1 tblsp Kraft Raspberry Jam = 1 point

1 piece frozen battered fish = 4 points

grilled veggies = 0 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks Cheddar Broccoli rice = 3 points

1 medium slush = 2 points

1 cup 1% milk = 2 points

1 pckg Weight Watchers Cheese Twists = 2 points

Total points used is 22. 😀

the weight watchers version of Thinsation Cheetos

The weight watchers cheese twists are the ww version of Thinsations Cheetos (which are really good!)…these are pretty good, they have a slightly off flavour that I can’t pin down but that’s alright. I guess weight watchers figured if people were gonna go crazy over all the Thinsation snacks out there they might as well get there own version and rake in more money that way. lol. Can’t really blame them. I think the next time I will probably buy the Thinsation Cheetos over the weight watcher cheese twists because (1) the cheetos have a slightly better flavour and (2) the thinsations are cheaper. Nothing against weight watchers food, shrug, but I have to look out for my bank account balance here. lol.

It will be interesting to see how I do with my 22 points when it’s a work day; this weekend was easy. The weather was rainy and blah so I stayed in for most of the 2 days just reading and watching movies, relaxing. Aaaah, so nice! Because I was so inactive and slept so much tho my appetite was less then what it is on a more active day, not like at work I am crazy active but I am awake for longer on work days and just from normal daily activities am more active. I have gotten ready some raw veggies for me to have as a snack that way if I want to eat more then what my 22 points will let me I can eat those and not use any points. Hopefully this plan works! 🙂

I’m goin down!

7 Aug

I’m goin down down down down down – wOOt!

Thought I’d rip off the lyrics to a song by Freddie King to help me celebrate my weight loss. lol. The song has been performed by many different artists and Freddie’s isn’t actually the version I have in my head but oh well, guess it’s right to give kudos to Freddie since it’s his song first. lol. 😀

So all that freaking out was for nothing, yah! I had managed to convince myself earlier today, right before I stepped on the scale, that I’d be happy if the number was somewhere around where it was last time I weighed myself, the same would be fine – a bit depressing but what I deserved considering what I ate while on vacation. Well, when I saw the number I would have given a shriek but I wasn’t sure if my roomie was still asleep or not and if she was I didn’t want to wake her. Not only did I go down by 3.8 pounds (omg, I can’t believe I just wrote that!!!!!) but the weight loss put me down in to a whole new weight bracket. By that I mean the second number in my weight has changed! Oh yeah baby, that’s right! The second number changed this time!!! 😀 😀 😀 I haven’t been in this number bracket for years and when I was in it is was only for the time it took to keep going up in weight until I ended up as heavy as I was when this whole thing started. Now, maybe I shouldn’t be too excited, I am only in this new weight bracket by 0.4 lb but I don’t care, I am in it and I will fight to stay in it…until I get down in to the next bracket that is! lol.

Not only am I thinner but the amount of points I get to eat per day has gone down by one; now I get to eat 22. The reason this changed is because part of the calculations for figuring out your daily points uses the first two digits of your weight – that second number of mine changed so now I am down a point. 😛 I feel perfectly happy with this change; I am not concerned about losing the food per day associated with that point because a lot of days I have trouble eating my whole 23 points – maybe having 22 will be easier to manage? Just wait, I’ll probably be bitching in a couple of days about how hungry I am cause I am at 22 points now, lol.

You may or may not be wondering why it’s been so long since I had a weigh in day on here…I am going to pretend you are wondering and explain. lol. My first weigh in day on vacation was the day after my road trip, I used my mom’s scale and it had me go up by a couple pounds which devestated me. 😦 My mom pointed out though that every scale is a little different (very true), the time of day I was weighing myself was different from normal (time of day totally affects your weight) and that the previous day I was abnormally inactive because of spending so many hours in the car (didn’t burn as many calories just from normal daily movement cause of well, not moving, lol). I decided to try to ignore the scale and re-weigh myself later that day. When I re-weighed myself I lost almost a pound from my earlier weigh in that day so I figured, shrug, don’t freak out about it, wait for next week and see what the scale says then. I got a little impatient and weighed myself the next day and I’d gone down a pound and a bit from the day before so I seemed to be on the right track. The next saturday though I couldn’t bring myself to step on the scale, I had eaten so much bad food and most of the activities I had been involved in were not all that active so I just pretended the scale was not there. lol. Well, couldn’t do that pretending today could I? I had to step on and face the music, and the music was good! On average I lost 1.9 lbs per week which is right about what I was losing before (the weeks before vacation I kept going down by 1.8 lbs per week). Awesomeness! 😀

Let’s see what I ate today:

1 Sandwich

    – 2 pieces of toast = 2 points

    – 1 scrambled egg = 2 points

    – 2 pieces of turkey bacon = 2 points

    – 1 Kraft cheese slice = 1 point

    – mixed peppers (in the egg) = 0 points

1 chocolate Timbit = 1 point

1 pckg Mr. Noodle Chicken flavour = 8 points

2 Maple cookies = 4 points

1 Coffee Crisp Single = 2 points

Total points used 22. Right where I am supposed to be. 😀 Admittedly, I wasn’t eating very healthy food but hey, it’s saturday, my whole eating schedule got off kilter. lol. The Mr. Noodles surprised me. They were something I still had in my cupboard from before weight watchers started and I had been ignoring them because I thought they’d be as high in points as Ichiban (that’s 12 for the package!) but when I saw how many points I had left and that it was getting late I decided to check the nutritional info and found out they are 8 instead. 8 is too high for something normaly, especialy something with no nutritional benefit and too small to completely fill me but for today it was perfecto. lol.

So all in all a great start to being back on track after vacation, I didn’t lose as much (well any really) ground as I thought I would and I bought healthy groceries today so this week should be all kinds of good. 🙂 Go weigh in day go!

Can tonight just not end…please?

6 Aug

Tomorrow is weigh in day; the first real one since vacation happened. I don’t want it to happen…I am…scared. sigh. Scared of a stupid scale, it seems so pathetic and yet, here I am, scared of the little digital monster! I don’t want to see that the number has gone up, I have this recurring image of the number on the scale being larger then when this whole journey started. Oh my.

oh the fear this is me!

I haven’t cheated since I have been back – so 2 days of perfection! I had two days of travel where I was not great but not perfect – 1 day under 1 day I am not sure about (cuz of those oh so yummy hash browns, Mmm). Then there were my last 3 vacation days – 1 of which had McD’s, and 2 of which had food festivals and fast food from a fair ground. See why I am scared??

I will keep this short cause no one wants to read about my neurosis, lol, so – today I ate:

3/4 cup Almond Special K = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1 cup Carrot and Corriander with Lemon soup = 2 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks Broccoli and Cheese Rice = 3 points

mixed peppers, carrots, snap peas = 0 points

1.5 cup strawberries = 1 point

1 grilled cheese sandwich

    – 2 pieces of bread = 2 points

    – 2 Kraft cheese slices = 2 points

    – 2 slices turkey bacon = 2 points

    – 1 tblsp Light Miracle Whip = 1 point

1 cup Carrot and Corriander with Lemon soup = 2 points

This means so far I have eaten 20 points, so I still get a 3 point snack! 😀 I have no idea what I am gonna snack on but rest assured I will find something! lol.

Wish me luck for tomorrow!

Too. Much. Drinking.

5 Aug

I noticed over vacation I wasn’t taking in as much water (or any fluids really) as I should be. I spent all that time working up to drinking 5 or more glasses/cups of fluid a day and over vacation – poof! – back down to 2 if I am lucky.  So today, the first day back to work and my normal routine I drank a disturbingly large quantity of fluids. Let’s just say that it’s a good thing I sit so close to the washroom at work. lol. 😀

gotta pee! gotta pee! gotta pee!

At work I had 6 cups of tea (large cups) and 3 big glasses of water; once I got home I had a huge bottle of water and as a result spent a lotta time over the course of the day in the washroom. lol. By the time I was s’posed to be thinking of dinner my tummy was feeling all sloshy and I didn’t really want to eat. It wasn’t a good feeling – I felt overly acidic, ugh. I really wanted something that would soak up some of the fluid which I am sure sounds stupid but hey, it’s what I wanted so I made myself a sandwich. After my stomach had some time to realize there was something solid in it I started to feel better. 🙂

I learned last night that your daily 8 glasses of water don’t have to be water – when did that change? Now it’s 8 glasses of fluid; much easier to do! I got well over my 8 glasses of fluid since I drank 10 glasses/cups and all were over a one portion size. Yah for staying hydrated! 😀  You can also get your daily fluids from the liquid that is in foods; like your fruits and veggies. There are all kinds of ways to stay hydrated which means it should be easy to do but really, how many people actually get the amount of fluid in them they are supposed to on a daily basis?

Drinking so much fluids today brought up a concern I have never had before; can I drink too much? Will this damage my kidneys or some other organ?…cause that would suck! I remember hearing years ago about a contest to win a Wii, it was called Wee for Wii or something stupid like that. Basically, it was who can drink the most water without peeing? Whoever wins gets a free Wii. The reason I remember the contest is because a lady who was in the contest died from drinking too much water. Too much water?!?! Ack! So there is a line we need to stay on – don’t drink too much don’t drink too little.

After a little research I learned that drinking too much water is called hyponatremia and results in a dilution of sodium in the body. It is most commonly found in babies under 6 months old and athletes. I could list all the deets about water intoxication but that’d just be boring, if you want to read them just go to http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm Something I do want to point out is that it is not how much you drink but how quickly you drink it. A healthy adults kidneys can process 15 litres of water a day, so the normal person is highly unlikely to suffer from water intoxication as long as they drink the fluid over the course of the day and not all at once. So yah! No dying from drinking too much today! lol

Today I ate:

3/4 cup Red Berry Special K = 2 points

1/2 cup 1% milk = 1 point

1 banana = 2 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks broccoli and cheddar rice = 3 points

1 hot dog weiner = 3 points

1 granny smith apple = 1 point

2 triangles Light Laughing Cow cheese = 1 point

1 cup blueberries = 1 point

1 peanut butter sandwich

    – 2 pcs bread = 2 points

    – 1 tbsp peanut butter = 2 points

    – 1 tsp Eating Right Margarine = 1 point

1 serving of crisps = 4 points

Today I used 23 points exactly! 😀 Day 2 of hitting my points, wOOt! I should have had veggies in there at some point, normally I would have had some at dinner but since my tummy wasn’t up to that I ended up having a veg free day. I had a decent amount of fruit though…not quite as much as the food guide says I should have but hey, I can only do so much a day and I got my fluid in so let’s focus on that victory, k?

Back on my points

4 Aug

It is a relief to me that I managed to eat my points today, no more no less. 🙂 Course, one of the things I ate I can’t find the points for so I had to guess so maybe I am off but I am going to pretend I am right cause it makes me feel like it won’t be so hard tomorrow when I am back at work having to eat on a schedule again. lol.

I headed out about 11am or so after a sorta ok breakfast. I ordered 2 eggs any style with toast and hash browns with a side of fruit. I thought the fruit would counteract the hashbrowns and toast of which I was only going to have a bite of; that didn’t really work. The fruit was a bowl of “mixed fruit” apparently mixed now means one bite sized piece of pineapple and a mixture of cantelope and honeydew melon. I happen to hate both those melons, and seriously? One bite of pineapple?!?! Oh, and it was all under ripe, ick.  So, since I didn’t have the fruit to fill me up I ate most of the toast and hash browns. sigh. I had only intended to have a bite, I swear! But I was hungry and the two eggs just weren’t gonna cut it. shrug.

It was tasty but settled as a heavy ball of lead in my tummy that made me not feel well for an hour or so of my drive. Oddly enough I found that drinking water helped ease the feeling so I drank, and drank, and drank and as a result thought my bladder was going to burst when I got stuck in crawling traffic due to construction…soooo much construction! Seriously, I was squirming so much in my seat, lol, I was tempted to pull off to the side and beg the use of the porta potty the construction guys/gals had but decided to tough it out till I got back to my place. Best pee ever! 😛

Let’s get back to normal here…today I ate:

2 eggs = 4 points

2 pcs toast = 4 points

hashbrowns = 4 points

1 raspberry fruit bar = 2 points

1/2 cup Sidekicks Cheddar and Broccoli Rice = 3 points

1 hot dog weiner = 3 points

2 triangles of Light Laughing Cow Cheese = 1 point

1 Thinsations Oreo Mini Cakesters pckg = 2 points

Total points used 23!!! wOOt! 😀 Now I am off to finish putting all my stuff away so I can go to bed…after Law and Order SVU of course. lol.

Oh the horrors of dieting while on vacation!

3 Aug

Alrighty, well, I have really screwed up, sigh. It’s like I just gave up completely at some point because the food options were getting worse and worse and I just couldn’t seem to control anything! I don’t mean I couldn’t control if I put the food in my mouth or not, I mean I couldn’t control where I was going to be eating and when…which lead to a lot of “oh dear” moments. lol. The absolute most horrible-est part is…I stopped carrying around my notebook I keep track of all my food in!!! I am not even sure where it is, gasp, gulp, ack!

I will dig the notebook out and start keeping track again but I am quite upset with myself that I went so far off course; not gonna meet my goals if I fall so harshly off the wagon just cause vacation pops up! grr to me. 😦

Let’s work backwards from today since I think that will be easier, and well, today wasn’t so bad actually. lol.

Tuesday Aug 3rd

1 breakfast wrap

    – 1 wrap = 2 points

    – 1 scrambled egg = 2 points

    – 1 tbsp spinach cream cheese = 1 point

    – uber small bit of marble cheese = 0.5 point

2 egg salad sandwiches = 5 points

    – I can’t say for sure what was in them (quantities anyways) cause my mom made them but she also does weight watchers and she said she calculated them at 5 points for both so let’s just believe her shall we?

carrots and green peas = 0 points

1 med iced capp from Tim Horton’s (milk not cream) = 3 points

5 timbits (I know! I know!) = 5 points

1 orange = 1 point

1 weight watchers snack = 2 points

That is a total of 21.5 points for the day; it is going to stay at that total cause it’s late and I am sitting in my hotel room thinking about going to sleep. Oh yeah, so I am on my way back home after my vacation…I forgot to mention that. lol.

Yesterday, what did I eat yesterday? Oh god! I remember! K, brace yourself…I had McDonald’s. Go ahead, you can holler “you did what?!?!” at me…I will hang my head in shame while you vent. sigh. I started off not too badly, I got a Booster Juice (tried a new flavour and was not so impressed, ah well, that’s what happens when you try something new) but then I was out with J and J and one of the J’s is preggers and was craving McDonald’s so we ended up going through the drive in and I caved. double sigh. I got a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, fries and coke. I ate the burger and fries and OMG it was so freakin good! but only sipped at the pop, I haven’t had anything to drink except water and tea (and while on vacation booster juice) and I didn’t want to stop that. I guess I should think of that as a nice little victory. lol. I wasn’t going to eat dinner since I ate McD’s but my mom had this tofu and brown rice bowl, I think the brand name was Amy’s? It was fairly good. I am going to look for it at the grocery store when I get home; it was only 5 points and a really good meal size. 🙂

The two days before that, Saturday and Sunday, were spent at two different outdoor festivals, Heritage Days and Capital Ex (formerly Klondike Days). Heritage Days is the best! It’s 3 days of food from all different countries. Yum! There are booths set up all over a huge park, you buy tickets and then the different dishes are worth different amounts of tickets. The food at each booth is s’posed to be authentic food from that country. It works great each year. 😀 Capital Ex was better when it was Klondike Days but oh well, things change I guess. shrug. It is tradition for me to eat a foot long corn dog at Capital Ex and I didn’t break tradition this year. lol. I knew I had already eaten an uncountable amount of points while at Heritage Days that day but whatever! I only get one corn dog a year and I wasn’t going to miss out! I also ended up eating about 10 mini donuts and a crepe with nutella and strawberries in it. By that point I was missing fruit and veggies so much the strawberries were my fave part! lol

When looking at the big picture I seem to have had a low point over the weekend, I am getting better (at least today was better) and the farther back I go the less worse I was. lol.

July 30th I had booster juice again, that time I had the drink and a panini (bbq chicken! yum!) and I helped H move. I figured all the moving burned enough calories that I didn’t have to feel guily about eating dinner out with M. lol. We ate at a restaurant near her work that was good – I wish I could remember the name, I think it’s High Level Diner but the name doesn’t match the restaurant…Anyways, I had shredded lettuce with refried beans, a corn tortilla, lots veggies on top (mostly tomatoe), some shredded cheese, sour cream, guacamole, um…there might have been more but that’s all I remember. lol. It was good, I wouldn’t get it again but not cause it wasn’t tasty. 😛

July 29th I went to Drumheller with my oldest nephew R cause he’s totally in to dinosaurs and wanted to go. He knows a sucker when he meets one and he is well aware that all he has to do is ask and I will probably say yes to what he wants. lol. Not a good practice but hey, I only see him twice a year! We did a 1km hike through the badlands during the high heat of summer…talk about burning calories! lol. I started off with my normal breakfast, weetabix and fruit, but at the museum had a bacon cheeseburger and some fries, during the drive I also ate 2 cups of grapes. It was an odd combo of healthy and not healthy. shrug. I think I also had a guiness that evening but I am really not sure anymore…the farther back the days the harder it is to remember…oh the suckiness of being old! teehee

And there we go, all caught up! Phew! I will be on the road for part of tomorrow but should be home in time to do some grocery shopping for Healthy food and back on track I will get! 😀

Mmm…Restaurants! :)

28 Jul

Yesterday and today have been “restaurant days”; in two days I have eaten in 3 restaurants and visited 2 coffee shops! Every single bite was delicious and worth it but not all that healthy…shocker! lol

Let’s see, yesterday, I ate at Red Lobster, yum! It was Shrimp Lovers Tuesday and I am sooooo a shrimp lover. 😛 I picked three dishes, I don’t know why I did that…you can pick just two but I chose three. shrug. Even before I was trying to lose weight and just ate whatever I always ordered the three and couldn’t finish so this time I really couldn’t finish! I got the Shrimp Linguine Alfredo; it’s my absolute fave dish at RL. Sadly though a half serving is 14 points…yup, you read that right, 14 points! When you get it as part of the trio the quantity is less then a half portion but I am not sure how much less so I am not exactly sure how many points it was. Don’t forget the other two items though…the Fried Shrimp and the Garlic Shrimp. The Garlic Shrimp were perfect; the Fried Shrimp were alright. Oh, it also came with a baked potato that I of course got sour cream for, a garden salad with ranch dressing on the side (it would have been light dressing but they don’t have light dressing there) and the cheese buns. Everyone who goes to RL knows the best part is those free dinner buns they give you at the beginning, they are to die for! They are so warm and delicious, they tear apart easily, are soft inside and a bit crunchy outside, there is cheese baked in to them…mouth heaven right there!

So after eating enough food to fill a lady pregnant with twins I went to a movie where I did not eat or drink anything cause really, where would it fit? lol. After the movie though N and I wanted to keep hanging out so we went to Tim Horton’s and were there just in time to get tea before they closed…I figure tea aids in digestion though so that’s ok. lol

Today was lunch at Joey’s with J; it is tradition, we go there everytime I visit. I fluctuate on what I get there so you’d think I’d order something kinda healthy, ha! I got the Sliders which are 3 baby burgers and a side order of yam fries which I am proud to say I didn’t eat all of. 🙂 As soon as the order was taken and the waiter gone a table near us that had 4 women got served and they all ordered huge salads and I immediately felt guilty and was tempted to call the waiter back to change my order but the waiter was nowhere to be found and I would have felt like a fool doing that anyways so shrug, it didn’t happen.

Dinner was at the Cheesecake Cafe with MJ and K; that is also becoming a tradition when I visit. 🙂 I was still full from lunch so I got soup, safe right? Nope! I got the broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl, a frickin bread bowl! Just stick a needle in my arm full of carbs and let it go! *rolls eyes* It was yummy though and not such a huge serving I felt like I over indulged…and I only ate a small part of the bowl…Then over to Starbucks where I got a tea. I am glad I like tea so much, no calories, tasty, helps the tummy – all kinds of good reasons to drink the stuff!

So those were my two days of restaurants and coffee shops; not good by any means but I s’pose they could’ve been a lot worse! …right?

On a good note I got a response finally from Peter’s Drive In, remember I mentioned I emailed them ages ago looking for nutritional information for the milkshakes there? Well…they sent it! Along with the nutritional information for the entire menu. Sweeeet! It is too late tonight to do anything about it but I will finally be able to figure out the points for that milkshake and see just how bad it was!

Attempting…and failing…

27 Jul

Holy crap! It has been days since I have been able to get online, I feel like I am going through withdrawl. eeek! I am staying at my parents place and they have internet but they don’t know their password so I can’t get my laptop online and while I may know a lot about computers my knowledge stops at hacking…I may remedy that! lol. So it is late at night and I am finally able to get on to their computer, phew!

I am not going to cover all the food I have eaten since I have been offline because nobody wants to read that many food lists, lol, but I will give you the ups and down. 🙂

The second day of the roadtrip almost started out with such promise. 😛 I went to the restaurant attached to the hotel I stayed at and ordered the one healthy breakfast item they had, can you believe that?? One item!! It was eggs with fruit salad on the side…I think there was toast too. Not the greatest meal but ya gotta work with what ya got. lol. The waitress comes back to my table after I place my order and informs me (very nicely) that they have no fruit…no fruit?!?! The supplier didn’t bring them any…so no fruit. huh. That’s a new one, and wtf am I s’posed to do now? I took a quick look through the menu again while the waitress hovered over my shoulder making me feel very pressured and picked such an amazingly unhealthy dish I surprised even myself. 😛 It was eggs benedict but without the ham, instead it was an english muffin topped with sliced tomato, bacon, poached egg and of course the hollondaise sauce. Yum!! I haven’t had something that rich for breakfast in longer then I can remember. It also came with hash browns (home made diced hash browns) and I ate some but was too full to have more then a couple bites of them. I really savoured every bite of that breakfast, it tasted sooooooo good. again…Yum! lol

Most of the rest of that day I was really good; I ate my veggies I had packed for a snack and somehow wasn’t hungry for anything larger so I didn’t bother with my salad. I did however stop at Peter’s Drive In for my milkshake and onion rings, I can’t believe what happened ! It was horrible! Not the milkshake or rings-they were perfect, but my stomach, sigh, I only drank about half (at most) of the shake (oreo flavour btw) and had about 7 of the rings and was full to the point of feeling sick…I wasn’t even out of friggin cow town yet before I had to stop! (yes I was eating and driving at the same time, it’s AB, they let you do that! lol) I was actually mad at myself, here I had been waiting for this milkshake and I couldn’t even enjoy the entire thing? Know what I ended up doing for the last 3 hours of the road trip? Drinking…water! Water! Horrendous! I left the milkshake alone and drank water…what’s the world coming to? ugh.

The only plus side to not being able to drink the whole shake or eat the rings is that I saved points which is good considering my breakfast. *rolls eyes*

My next day started off not too badly, I had Weetabix for breakfast topped with some fruit…back on track right? And when I needed a snack later I ate fruit, so good choice again…and then I went out for dinner with a friend. I tried deluding myself the salad I was ordering was healthy but let’s get real, it so wasn’t! I ordered the Top Sirloin Steak Salad with Goat Cheese (the description is: seared medium-rare top sirloin steak, mixed greens, roma tomatoes and quebec goat cheese, tossed in a spicy tomato vinaigrette with a hint of tomato clam cocktail and served with banana bread) It was really tasty! I didn’t eat the banana bread (it wasn’t very good, dry, shrug) but I ate almost every bite of the salad. Mouth heaven. There was very little goat cheese and about 6 thin slices of steak, I should have got the dressing on the side but totally forgot so I think the dressing took away from the healthiness of the greens and veggies in the greens. sigh.

If you can believe it the next day was even worse! How they keep escalating I am not sure but they do. lol. I went to a friend’s kid’s birthday party; it was a bbq and to be honest I thought we’d just be eating veggies, chips, snack type items but nope, full out bbq. I had a hot dog (I can’t believe how long it’s been since I ate one of those!), some homemade potato salad and some homemade beans (they had pork n beans, bacon, brown sugar, ketchup and onions in it – put it all in a crock pot and let it do it’s thing). The beans were really excellent. 🙂 The entire time was great but I kept thinking wow, this is so not healthy…oh and then there was the big slab of cake we all had, oy! Then, just to make the day even better I had a family dinner (which admittedly wasn’t as unhealthy), there was brocolli pie with cheese on top, baby potatoes, salad, veggies, a tiny bit of roast chicken and strawberries for dessert. Luckily my mom is also on weight watchers so she made a healthy dinner. 🙂 Go mom go! lol

Today I decided I have to get back on track, I can practically feel myself getting fatter, ugh, and my tummy is not happy with such a drastic shift from healthy stuff to not so healthy stuff, it’s been having some pain and general discomfort today, not fun!

I started the day with, you guessed it! Weetabix. lol. It’s the healthiest cereal here, and some fruit then when I was out I hit up Extreme Pita, I love this place. 😀 I got the Maple Dijon Chicken (it has grilled chicken, blend of greens, red grapes, grape tomatoes and maple dijon dressing all in a pita) I got the small and it was only 4 points, it tasted like it should have been way more points it was that good. 😀 I also just had to hit up this sushi place in the mall that does this roll called the Alberta roll, it has beef in the middle which is very un-sushi like but it’s so good and only at this one place. I got two as a treat. I then felt so bad cause I felt like I had eaten a ton that I didn’t eat again until quite late when I drank a can of Guinness (only 4 points!) and some chips my uncle brought us from England when he came to visit, my mom portioned them out so they were another 4 points but I had the points to spare. I ended up under my points today and don’t feel bad about it in the least considering the last 3 days. lol

I would like to say I am going to eat healthier from now on but tomorrow I am eating dinner at Red Lobster (my fave place!) and the day after I have dinner plans at the Cheesecake Cafe, and the coming weekend is going to be food hell but that I will explain in a different post since this one is becoming a novel. lol.

Suffice to say I fell of the wagon and hard the beginning of this trip…hopefully I can find a way to salvage my diet cause I sure don’t want to gain my weight back. It took a lot of work and weeks to lose the weight so far, how much would it suck to gain it all back on one vacation?
